Starfailed?

After watching the IGN video review, I will wait for some QoL updates before I play it. The inventory management looks abysmal, and that's usually one of the first things that gets addressed in updates. There also are no minimaps or maps for navigation? Yeah, I am directionally challenged so no way I'm going to try to memorize base layouts and stuff.

Otherwise, this seems like if you're a fan of their earlier works like Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout, etc, then it's more of the same. Nothing ground breaking, but it doesn't need to be. Since I finally got a gaming PC, I look forward to playing this with some fun user mods.

Hmmm. IGN says it gets good after several hours, one of my least-favorite forms of faint praise.

Sounds like this runs pretty well on Series S. Good to hear because I will play primarily on Series X, but might play a little in the bedroom on the Series S.

No maps??? I get lost with a map with a navigational line and an arrow that points GO THIS WAY. My husband bought me a shirt that says Not all who wander are lost. But I am.

You can mod it and use a trainer. You’ll like it.

The more I read about it the less worried I am. Gamesradar said it was the best Bethesda game since Oblivion and that’s high praise. Apparently the main gripe is the inventory system is bunk and you get encumbered too quickly. Seems trivial to me.

For me the only question is : Do I keep my LE Upgrade from Amazon or do I send it back and start playing it next week? I'm leaning heavily in that direction.

Wait it out. And, this is coming from someone who buys things even when they are free.

The reviews are wrong. If you like Fallout and Skyrim/Oblivion you’ll like this. I love it. And I’ve been exploring. Went off the beaten path and got annihilated by a spider. But not before it killed some Spacers chasing me.

I put about 3 hours in so far, most of which was spent on Kreet, scanning flora and fauna and avoiding the first main quest

I’m still getting back into the groove of this type of RPG. The Bethesda style is in full swing here, for better or worse.

One thing I don’t like (see: never liked) was easily getting over encumbered early in their games until I level up enough to where it’s no longer an issue.

Also, third person mode has two camera distances to choose from, but I find myself going back to FPS mode. It feels smoother.

I’ll definitely need a few more hours to settle in, but I dig it. The music is phenomenal. No sign of that Imagine Dragons song (yet).

Most reviews gave it top praise. It’s a few outliers that seem to have an issue with the game. Another reason to avoid algorithmic meta scoring and to read the actual reviews by humans you trust.

I found out today (well yesterday now) that apparently people hate Imagine Dragons like they do Nickelback. I had no idea. I love their music.

I saw a review that without spoiling said the end is nothing like they've seen and that the way they played was to rush the main story, then do all the other content after. I didn't read any more as to not spoil myself.

I played some more this morning. I can't even begin to say how much I am enjoying the game. I have explored the first main area (Kreet) and I have found epic items and legendary items, saw funny computer messages to pirates, silly posters on walls in outposts, heard interesting audio messages, and found a random quest just from reading a datapad. Like I said before, it's definitely a Bethesda game through and through. I am level 4 now, and it's just been great.

But there are a few things I don't like. The inventory isn't hard to navigate. In fact it's easy. They sort items based on type (weapons, aid items, ammo, misc, etc) and you can even sort the items by weight and value. It'll also tell you the most recent items you picked up. But that being said, it is a pain to save the game. You have to press like three buttons in three different screens to do it. And apparently there's no option to automatically eat food items when you pick them up. You have to manually eat them in your inventory or use a hotkey (which is fine for med packs but not so much for the random cereals and candy bars scattered all over). And yes, you do get encumbered quickly. Especially if you mine minerals like me every time you see them. Luckily you can give items to Vasco (the robot companion) but even he has a weight limit. You can also upgrade the carrying weight just like in Fallout. That helps a lot as I have already upgraded my limit by 75 kilograms.
