So, if you had a chance to get the digital deluxe edition for free, but have never really played a game like this and not sure have the desire to right now, would you get it?

Well technically, I can use it on anything with Xbox store. I don’t have any wants right now. But, it’s tempting even though I know I won’t start it right away and don’t even know/think I will like a game like this.

Played through character creation and the first space fight intro. Is there a way to fast swap weapons without going to the menu? Switching between the mining tool and a gun is already a pain.

Thanks. I'll figure out how to set that next time I start it up. I did see how to use the d pad for health packs.
I may end up playing m/kb for this one. I usually go controller for shooters but this one could probably benefit from the infinite keybinds.

If you've never played a Bethesda open world, IMO it would make much more sense to go with a Elder Scrolls or Fallout (depending on if you prefer fantasy or modern) for super cheap first, then buy this when it's eventually on sale later this year if you enjoy the formula.

Oh, you meant using credit to buy the deluxe upgrade? Yeah, I'd wait on that till you at least know you'll want to play the expansion. Not worth it just to get the game a few days early otherwise, IMO.

The Gamespot review I saw made it seem like there was much more emphasis on the FPS aspect to the game. Is this true and does shooting happen from the start?

The different ammo types are frustrating. I was ready to sell all my different pistols till I saw there's multiple types of ammo. And some planets don't carry all the different types

I started it this morning. I made it through the first pirate base,
I’m enjoying it so far,, I like how your first step out of the base mimics the vault opening in Fallout.
I’m generally not a fan of spaceship combat, but it doesn’t seem too bad so far. I prefer the lockpicking in Fallout/Elder Scrolls.

Ten hours in. Spent a big chunk on Mars dealing with miners and had to kill a bunch of pirates who stole a ship. Barely touched the main quest line so far but hoping to tackle that today.

Another funny thing happened when I was on New Atlantis. I got caught stealing (I usually reload when that happens, protip always save before trying to steal) and the shop keeper was like “don’t let it happen again, I’ll return these to the rightful owners” instead of running away screaming or trying to kill me.
So he takes the items I stole and then I try and purchase items from him. What do I see him selling? The very same items stole from him plus ones that I stole from someone else on another planet

Granted it was the seedy part of town but still…

10hrs in or so. Finished up the tutorial planet, went to New Atlantis a did some quests there, then I went and landed on a different spot of that same planet, just to test out how navigation and transportation works.
So far so good. My weapons feel wildly underpowered a lot of the time, and I run out of ammo often. Buying it is expensive, but there are times I literally have zero ammo for any of my guns, and I don't really have any other option if I want to go out and explore.
The map system in this game is remarkable. Outside of the New Atlantis, it hasn't really been an issue, but in the city it's complete dog shit and nearly unusable unless you want to fast travel from one sector to another. Insane that they make one game in 10+ years, and this is the map the go with.
The game looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing more environments while following through on some of the many many side quests I've picked up. Cool game. At this point, it's hard to overstate how massive it feels right now.

Yeah I've seen a couple reviewers say the map system is literally the worst they've ever seen in any open world game.

re: STARFIELD (Xbox/PC 2023)
The "maps" are the worse thing about the game. I can understand the random planets having generic maps but places like new Atlantis is unacceptable.
Is it something they can fix in an update? I dont know if that's even possible?

I am going to have to wait a few more days to.play the game, but I got the LE Controller today, which I absolutely did not need. Still really glad I got it. It's so gorgeous! 🤩
