Like I said I'm a Metroid fan and I love metroidvania's so I'm going to play it but them saying we made a really good Metroid game but also made it insanely hard is not what I wanted to hear.
Yeah, the reviews citing the difficulty have put me off too. I'm old, my reactions are in seconds, not micro seconds. Maybe if they update it with an easy mode I'll play but not until then. Too bad, Super Metroid is one of my favorite games. From 25 years ago when I had reflexes. Oh well, Pokemon Go and Animal Crossing.

Super Metroid was the last one I really enjoyed, too. I played Prime and never got into it. Not sure if I’m ready for this one though.

Damn. This was my first day one purchase of a game on Switch (well, pre-download). I hate stealth and a crushing difficulty doesn't sound too appealing to me either. I purchased Metroid, not Ninja Gaiden. Bummer.

Wow! Thanks for letting me know. It looked so glorious in glowing ign review I was considering buying a Switch just for this game bc I love Metroid so. But it would be such a waste even if I liked the game. Would still want older NES games which I know you can’t get. Anyway, the itch is gone.

Re: Metroid Dread (Switch; 10/8/21)

Was able to score a Special Edition tonight from Best Buy when it was briefly in stock.
It says Metroid Dread: Special Edition - Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite [Digital] but that can't be right can it? I don't see any other source stating that the game is a digital copy and can't find anywhere else listing a digital special edition. So I have to assume that's just a mislabeling on their website. Right?

BTW : It's back in stock right now (11:08 PT)

You get 100+ NES games on it, included with the $20/year online service.

The SE is physical game cart only. That must be an error on the site.

EMMIs fucking suck! They're not even fun.

Also, wish there was an easy mode - I'm old and ain't got time for this shit.

I wasn't expecting the box and art book of the CE to be so large. Now I have to find somewhere to store it.

I had the special edition pre-ordered from Amazon but I never was able to get a preorder of the amiibo. Thankfully they had extras when I walked into GameStop this morning. They also had extra special editions and OLED systems.

Damn, that really bums me out. Stealth and high difficulty don't sound fun to me either.

Re: Metroid Dread (Switch; 10/8/21)

Bout an hour in. Yes, the EMMI will kill you a lot. But it's quick and you don't lose much progress. Also, there are limited number of them so once you're able to kill one, that area will no longer be an issue.

Not a fan of the sliding mechanic. Not sure why they made it so that you have to use the analog as well as the L button. Why can't it just be the button to slide with no analog movement?

tempting, but I just can’t justify especially with the difficulty spike. I love Metroid and played and finished most but don’t think I’ll bite.

Re: Metroid Dread (Switch; 10/8/21)

I've put in 1-2 hours. The EMMI's are annoying as fuck. Why do I have to sit through that death animation every time? Give me a skip so I can get back into the game.

Also "stealth" is misnomer. Stealth implies you're sneaking around but the EMMI's seem to hear you no matter what so it's more of a "run like a motherfucker until you find a way out of the area before it kills you" mechanic.

I also, some of the button combos/usage just feel awkward. Samus having a parry is kinda weird.

Parrying was in the 3DS Metroid also, and it sucked then too.

I feel exactly the opposite it controls like a dream and I've really enjoyed the parry. I beat the first 2 EMMI's and the first boss and just got the Phantom Cloak. I'm loving the game so far.

Re: Metroid Dread (Switch; 10/8/21)

First boss was a bitch. Took me a half dozen tries. That was after wandering around in circles for 45 minutes not figuring out where to go. Hidden block. Good times. lol

Two buttons to fire missiles while holding a third to lock and aim with the stick is a bit much. Putting the cloak on the right stick is also a weird choice since your right thumb rests over the buttons.

Re: Metroid Dread (Switch; 10/8/21)

Huh, I guess this game is no longer than Super Metroid, roughly 7 to 8 hours.
Thought it'd be longer.
Also, I don't the the art/design for the enemies and environments are very good.
Still, at least it's mostly fun to play. But overall, I'm a bit disappointed.

I'm about 3-4 hours in now and still really enjoying it. Nothing too difficult so far. I just got the bomb power up.

Re: Metroid Dread (Switch; 10/8/21)

My Collector's Edition arrived this evening. Holy shit that's a big and heavy box. Like the art book. And the Cards are pretty cool.

Edit : Interestingly, it looks like in Europe the SE came with a standard game case as well as the Steelbook, but mine just came with a Steelbook case (which has no title on the spine )

Re: Metroid Dread (Switch; 10/8/21)

Anybody put off by the difficulty mentioned in reviews I would say still give it a shot. I'm about 6 hours in and I would assume around 2/3 of the way through and I haven't found it to be any more difficult than Zero Mission or Fusion. Think I've killed 5 of the EMMI's so far. So satisfying when you get the Omega blast and you get to take one of them out.

Because you have an opportunity to stun them and get away. Press X when they flash just like normal mobs and you can get away from them.

I'm a good bit into the game. Got the gravity suit and am on a boss called The Experiment. I've taken out either 4 or 5 of the 7 EMMI. Game is fantastic. I wouldn't let concerns about difficulty keep you from picking it up. The bosses aren't too hard; it just comes down to knowing their moves.

The 2-button missile is annoying me now, and 3 button if you want to be able to aim it. i need more time practicing it to get used to it. the boss and EMMI fights are harder than they need to be, because I haven't got the controls dialed in yet.
