Another comparison video:

I can’t get over how much better the PS5 version looks. Now I’m not giving them the stinkeye for charging more!

The current gen version (standard) is only 35 bucks at Best Buy in their deal of the day:

Of course this doesn't upgrade to next gen and the season just ended, with nothing to hype this up until the next season starts (maybe next year) so they're trying to milk this. Plus I have no idea if the problems were ever patched.

Oh, you're right, for some reason I thought that was the PC version. Corrected my post.

I am not sure if there is a next gen 2K thread. If you are, I must have overlooked it.

re: NBA 2K21 (both generations)

I'm going to ask a Mod to change the title to incorporate both generations. Doesn't really make sense in hindsight to have two separate NBA 2K 21 threads. And considering how dead this thread is considering the terrible reviews for the current Gen are, might be a good thing.

Re: NBA 2K21 (both generations)

How do the All-Time team rosters or historic rosters ('91 Bulls, etc) work in this game? Can you choose them at any time for eligible modes (exhibition) or have to unlock? Asking because I want to upgrade our 2k15 to the latest one but my son loves the Golden State team roster in the 2k15 version. He only plays exhibition or quick play games, no season or My Player (whatever it is called).

Thanks

I haven't played 2k21, but they have always been available for exhibition before without needing to unlock.

Does anyone happen to know the install size when using a disc? I read digital download for next gen is like 130gb. Too much space I'm willing to give up before the PS5 can use the extra SSD slot.

I'm pretty sure, just like last gen the install size is the same as the digital size, and the disc is just a way to transfer the data for install and a license check.

This article says the PS5 size is actually 150 GB which is more than the 130 for the Series X.

https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/nb...-size-massive/

Seems like that's the requirements to install, though. This article shows a screenshot of it taking up 114.2 GB, though I'm not sure if that includes the 20+ GB day one patch.

Re: NBA 2K21 (both generations)

So if you own NBA 2K20, there is a new prompt at the main screen which will ask you if you want to upgrade to 2K21 for $19.99 (digital version) The regular sale digital price right now is $30. This $19.99 sale might be over now. I think it was a Flash sale over the weekend.

I had $19 credit left at the Playstation store, so I decided to give it a go and get it. It's a big download. 90+ GB. It will take about 5-6 hours. I just let it download overnight in PS4 rest mode.

So I started practicing my shot with this new shot meter that has been giving many people trouble. After some time, I started to get the hang of it. So I proceeded to try a Play Now game and I played about a half and I actually did okay shooting wise. I think I shot in the mid 40's. This shot meter is about timing it right. A lot of people aren't going to like it, but I compare it to aiming your bat precision when playing The Show.

Re: NBA 2K21 (both generations)

I got an email saying that you can get the digital version (of last gen) for 50% off (which is the 30 dollar price you mention) or the mamba forever edition for 20% off.

Why is that a big deal? There is absolutely no way for you to upgrade to the next gen version from the previous gen (well, without shelling out 70 bucks). The mamba forever version you get both versions. I understand now why 2k went with this model, instead of what EA did with Madden. They not only get to bleed an extra 10 bucks for the regular next gen version, they have successfully been able to only discount last gen versions AND enticed people to "upgrade" to the mamba edition to get both.

While tempted, I'm not in that huge a rush for an incremental upgrade on last gen.

That said, DJariya, do you think it's an upgrade from 2k20?

Hard to tell right now. I need to play a few short games to see how it goes. Other than new rosters, the biggest difference is the shot meter that I've seen so far.

Is the shot meter as bad as the reviews say?

Considering the shot meter is the thing a lot of people seem to be complaining about, the only difference being rosters and that doesn't seem all too compelling...

Re: NBA 2K21 (both generations)

So I finally bought this game because it was on sale for series x.

They have two shot meter choices, the new one that lets you angle the shot by moving the stick left and right and the old school one which is like a golf meter. Did they add that old school one later? I tried the new one and couldn't hit anything.
