They would sell double or triple the amount of systems. They would rather have a sale than their name in the press.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Yeah, I'd think the only time I thought they were constraining supply were for things like the mini NES and SNES, and even that's debatable (if those things had been readily available from jump I doubt they'd have been as popular as they were).

If you intentionally constrain supply when you make money on accessories and games, plus you have a competitor that could easily gain an advantage if they had more supply, that would just be dumb.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Yeah, I would think that while they don't care really who they sell to, they'd rather sell more, and the more that are sold through the scalpers, it's a balancing act - real consumer hype and interest could go up, or frustration levels could go up, increasing or decreasing 'real' demand.
Question - I've seen a lot in the news about the faceplate debacle. I recall faceplates being popular in the Ps2 days, and skins/stickers even as far back as PS1. Is an expensive black or other patterned faceplate something that has a large market? Anyone here interested in getting one?

A lot of online toy stores use waiting lists similar to this. Sure, I might not get it NOW, but I will get one eventually and I will not have to pay a scalper. I'd be fine with that and I think a lot of people would as well. I remember getting the Kenner vouchers for Christmas when the original Star Wars toys were in demand.
I was going to post something similar. If nothing else, Sony should let you order one directly from them and have them go out as first come, first served. The other companies can do their bundles or sell a few at a time as they get them, but if I hadn't been lucky enough to get one at launch, I'd rather know I will definitely get one by July or something than play these silly games. And then if you happen to get one in the wild, you cancel with Sony and you're removed from the queue and someone else get's theirs that much faster.

Sheesh that was fast. Ugh. Definitely shows there's a demand. I'll probably preorder anyway.

I figure they were just waiting until supply was out there. Didn't that last company offering these get shut down, or were they some kind of scam? I thought that was a clear indication that Sony was going into this space, but maybe not.

Looks like they're aware of Sony's claim on the product :

I will wait for the official ones. I never see my console anyway as it's in a closet. But if a licensed Uncharted, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn or best of all a R&C one shows up, I am buying it for sure.

I'll be honest, the main reason I'd want one is because this console is so huge and (IMHO) so ugly, but maybe that's just me.

Do you think it's less ugly in black? I don't think it makes much difference, but I see an appeal for someone who has a bunch of black components under his TV

I dunno, it looks better to me, but it's not a gigantic deal to me where I need to replace it right away. Just explaining why I'm more interested in it than, say, a skin or something for a previous console.

My PS5 is sitting under my TV with the receiver and center channel. It's fine. I don't even notice it anymore.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Besides waiting for the kinks to work out, we're also kinda waiting for an aesthetic update, for something that will fit with our AV stuff a little better.
I wish Sony would look at people doing those faceplates and realize there's a demand for different looks.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I remember on the 360, you could get just about any kind of face plate you wanted. I had a Raiders' one on mine. There's a huge market for these, it's a shame Sony is leaving money on the table by not releasing them for the new consoles.

Yup, agreed/same here. I don’t need anything creative, but matte black sounds perfect. Preordered mine & can’t wait to swap out the white.

The faceplate thing was dropped fairly quickly, though. I always thought it was a little lame without a corresponding skin. But if you could easily customize the shell, that's another thing.

Probably cuts into all the special editions they pump out, though.

As someone who worked retail during the 360 days and remembers those face plates they were constantly being clearanced out and still no one would buy them. The only ones that were popular were the pre-order ones for games like Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata.

I think there’s still a bunch of sealed ones at my moms house that my brother and I bought.
