Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I think I’m glad I couldn’t find a preorder yet. After doing some more research it seems the ps5 might not have Dolby Vision. Since I was going to use it as my primary UHD player, this gives me pause. I think now I’ll wait until Hitman comes out since there aren’t any launch titles that interest me. That way I can apply that money to a stand-alone player.

Are there setups where you can tell the difference easily? I've compared the same DV content from Netflix on both my Apple TV which does send DV to my TV to the same content on PS4 Netflix which is just "HDR". I honestly couldn't tell the difference.

Maybe it is all overblown hype. I guess I’d like to future proof it though.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Is the lack of Dolby Vision a licensing thing? I can't imagine it needs a certain hardware or chip to do, seems like something you could add software for, or am I mistaken? The reason I ask is because I'm pretty sure Sony TVs support it.

There absolutely is a difference, mostly notably with DV using dynamic metadata to improve detail in the brightest and darkest area of the image.

I know there is a difference. I'm asking if it's ever noticeable to a person's eyes. Maybe if you have a projector sized screen? I have nitpicked video quality going back to VHS and I can't see anything different on my 65" OLED between a DV feed and a HDR feed.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Destruction AllStars is being showcased on the PS Blog today.

Microtransactions confirmed, which is a drag for a $70 multiplayer title. It’s still nuts to me that the game comes out in 44 days and there still isn’t any meaningful gameplay footage. There’s quite a bit about Sony’s marketing approach that I just don’t really get.

But still, it’s the only next-gen title that’s really caught my wife’s eye. Since she’s been addicted to both Forza and Overwatch, and this seems like kinda a mix of both, I might have to get it for her.

It does require a license, yes.

https://www.tomsguide.com/uk/news/th...a-loading-ever

Charles Bloom, a data compression specialist working at RAD Game Tools, has written a lengthy blog post explaining how the company’s Oodle Kraken technology will help give the PS5 “the fastest data loading ever available in a mass market consumer device.” In fact, Bloom continues, “we think it may be even better than you have previously heard.”

A whole lot of "maybe" and "could" and "expect to" in that. Should be interesting to see how it benefits the system down the road, though.

Well, it is certainly noticeable to this person's eyes. I'm on a 65" OLED as well. As I said, pay attention to the detail in the brightest and darkest areas... cloud detail, shadow detail, etc.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I think this is the first not-leaked photo of a PS5 in the wild. That's a big ol' boy, alright.

Previews from Japanese YouTubers go up tomorrow (or maybe tonight our time? dunno). They'll be playing Astro Bot, Godfall, and Devil May Cry 5. And some are playing Balan Wonderworld.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I got an email from Walmart confirming release date delivery. Not a bad way to start the day!

I got one as well. It was worded as a change to the ship date but the "new" date is launch day.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Pretty fascinating video...and he took the whole thing apart effortlessly in under 8 minutes using Five hand Tools. Huge Kudos to the designs of that massive heat Sink, huge fan and the Liquid Metal Thermal....the PS5 will have no Heat Issues; that's some serious internal design on their part...

...I still didn't see where and how you add the NMVe SSD? He pointed to the Ram, CPU, Graphic Chip and the Internal SSD but I still didn't see how to add another....

I believe I can live with that.
But is it right that, while most PS4 games will play on the PS5, whether or not your save data will transfer is another story? I certainly am not going to start over with, say, Assassins Creed Odyssey.
