Yeah, that's what I'm assuming.

Yeah, paypal always takes it immediately (at least whenever I've preordered anything). Otherwise they will do auths, probably multiple times to make sure you have the money in your account, but they shouldn't charge it until it ships (unless they tell you they will).

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

If you want a PS5, probably after launch, here is your chance:

@Wario64: GameStop will be doing in-store only preorders for PlayStation 5 (Disc) this Friday. These PS5s will not be for launch day but likely within one or two weeks after launch

GameStop hasn't officially announced this but that's what I heard from an employee

If I don't have a 4K TV and receiver, is it worth upgrading to a next generation game system like the PS5?

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Maybe not at launch, but it will eventually be the only way to play next gen games. Both companies have apparently decided next gen exclusives aren't a thing anymore so until there are some games you want that you can't play on PS4 and XBO, then it's probably safe to wait.

That being said, I'm in and I'll be hooking it up to a 1080p projector. Next gen is next gen, 4k or not. Ratchet & Clank will be my first true PS5 game purchase but that doesn't have a release date yet.

Not really. I mean if your TV can handle higher frame rates you will get that benefit, but that is about it.

I don't have one but I am still getting a PS5 at launch as I want to play R&C right when it comes out and there's still a lot of Next Gen improvements you can appreciate like frame rates and improved textures and reflections even without a 4K TV.

For as much into games as you seem to be, it baffles me that you don't have a 4K TV.

My TV still works great, and I think it looks really good. Plus it was professionally installed with an entire wireless system, controlled by my iPad, that is proprietary and installed by a guy who doesn't do that sort of work any more.
Bottom line is : It would cost many thousands of dollars to upgrade and be a huge pain in the ass to go from a very nice system that doesn't bother me at all and works great to something that would probably look better but might not work as well in my set up.

One of the reasons why I'm holding off ...because my Sony Projector HW40ES is non-4K but with 1080p and 3D, the images are stunning. I have thought about upgrading to a 4K Projector but that also means I'd have to upgrade my Yamaha RXV-671 Receiver since it doesn't have 4K pass-thru. My other option which I might go with is just get a 4K TV for gaming only but don't have the space yet. But after playing on a large screen I almost hate going back to something smaller.....even if i sell my projector it would still cost a couple of grand to upgrade to 4K projector and AVR.....

I love videogames. The only 4kTV I have is a smaller, cheaper Roku TCL in the kid's room. Some of it is because I was waiting for HDMI 2.1 and the other part (related to the first) is that I need a new receiver to pass through 4k. And then what do I do with my current TV? I guess I'm still hanging on to the now all-but-dead 3d technology in it as well.

The dumbest thing about all this is that because I have kids, the system that gets the most playing time is the Switch, by far.

I jumped a little too early upgrading my projector from 1080 to 4k. Its great for 4k HDR native content. But most movies were better on my 1080p projector, specifically the black levels. I wish I had waited for laser.

If I ever get the option to go back to a nice room with a projector setup, it seems like ultra short throw laser with one of those fancy textured light-diffusing screens is the way to go.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Do you guys think I should cancel my Wal-Mart release date pre-order since I got a Sony order in? I really don't want to hassle with two PS5s (unless, you know they're going for a fortune, even then I would feel funny about it). Nothing would make me more upset than lining up at a repugnant Wal-Mart and bringing a new, sealed PS5 to the customer service window, and watching them them open it up to inspect it.

That said, if something happens with the Sony order like the charge not going through, that would really suck if I didn't have a back up. Is it safe to assume that if the initial Credit Card info was okay, that your order is set and won't be an issue?

I'm in the same boat... I secured an Amazon and a Walmart order and for now I'm keeping both, but I will cancel one probably some time soon. But I think if anything Sony wouldn't be over allocated and unless you have credit card problems (which should be rare) it should be fine.

This is interesting, from Codemasters regarding their Dirt 5 free Next Gen upgrades :

I noticed that the hold on my card was taken off from the Target order. I guess they just want to make sure you're not broke. The pre-order is still active.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Is there something inherent in the design of the Series X that allows it to easily port save data/state over as opposed to the Playstation 5?

I'm sure there's a far more correct answer out there, but my guess is it has to do with cloud saves being built into Xbox's platform whereas cloud saves are only a option on PS4 (and PS5?) with a PS+ account. Since that doesn't cover 100% of PS gamers by default, there may be some limitation as to how devs are allowed to use those save files. Codemasters says your "playground creations" can be carried over, and that could be because they're not part of your save file, but part of the Dirt servers themselves. Meaning, you could theoretically delete all your saves (local and cloud) but your creations would still exist on their servers because it technically has nothing to do with your progress in the game.

I'd keep extra pre-orders. It's easy enough to return one to WM or Target if you have to.

Check your emails if you signed up for the Sony pre-order. They're sending out more invites apparently.
