If I really didn’t get into series, but have until 3, would I be swayed by this?

I think the better argument is that Odyssey will be down to $30 by the time people are wrapping up RDR2
I'll probably pick it up sometime next year since there won't be an AC game coming out.

Honestly this looks very similar to Origins. That one is great and I am sure this will be as well. But Origins is probably really cheap and there's really no reason not to try that one first and then move to this one next if you liked it. It will drop in price like a stone - they always do. If you do get Origins OB, send me a PM and you can have my extra copy of the digital Prima game guide.

Thanks Deck. I will let you know. Ideally I’d like the digital of Origins, but that hasn’t gone down in price as of yet. Still finishing Borderlands 2 and they will probably tie me up till RDR2, but we’ll see...Originally Posted by Decker

I decided to hold off on this game even though I loved Origins. I'm currently busy with Spider-Man and with RDR2 coming up later this month, I'll wait until I see it on sale.
It looks fantastic though...

It’s way better than Origins. The combat is different though. From what I remember.

is it still about stealth and you know, assassinations? bc from the review footage i've been seeing seems like a lot of melee combat and didn't think series was known for that...

fine. i'm still finishing Borderlands 2 and hate to not start and finish a game, especially when i am so far in, but may give this a go, just to test. but, then RDR2 will have to get my attention come 10/26...

If I could be the voice of reason for a second, you paid full price to get this game on release date even though you knew it would go on sale in no more than six weeks. The only reason to do that is so you can play it right away. To delay playing it in order to finish an 8 year old game makes zero sense.

Every battle or mission I do, I try and be stealthy. It’s like they took what made Origins fun, and added to it. For example, there’s more of an emphasis on naval combat this time around. It’s like Black Flag, Unity, and Origins had a baby.Originally Posted by OldBoy

What does he say and do that does make sense? He asks questions about things that he can simply check out himself. He reminds me of that kid in class that always asks me what the date is to write on his paper when it is always written on the board in my classroom. I bought the game and will be checking it out today.Originally Posted by Decker

well, fuck, what little i played was fucking fun. 2 hours doing side missions. didn't even do first story mission and i'm level 2. but, no way i am finishing before RDR, so now a quandary. stick for now, then see in couple weeks. you're right Deck, B2 can go on back burner for now, though i was having a ton of fun with it.
but, in the beginning of Odyssey, you can't get to a place faster than running?
i am going 1000m by foot to next mission objective. i think horse riding comes later, right?
and more melee than expecting, but it does play fast and loose and like that. the armor and tier levels play like Destiny 2 and makes it helpful, since i played a big chunk of that. not a big 3rd person fan, but with FC5 (finished) and Dying Light (yet to finish), these are itching my scratch...

Got me a horse and opened up a fast travel. That makes trekking easy. Just wish I could hunt yet. No bow and arrow I can craft yet...

So I've never played an AC game before, because I really hate the whole stealth gameplay genre, but it sounds like they are adding more RPG elements now? Is it moving away from stealthy stuff, or is that still the core gameplay?

It’s both. You don’t have to be stealthy, but it helps. I get walloped if I’m not stealthy all the time. And, this is first AC game I played longer than 2 minutes so can’t speak to rest of franchise, but this is open world fun. The RPG is very Destiny imo. I like it all thus far. I’m surprused not more chatter after out for 2 days now. I mean me speaking about a game actually being played now and not years later is rare...
