Re: Arcade 1UP
I'm ready to purchase my first Arcade1Up machine. It's the Atari Legacy Arcade and contains some of my all time favorite games: Tempest®, Missile Command®, Asteroids®, Centipede®, Millipede®, Major Havoc®, Akka Arrh, Crystal Castles®, Gravitar® , Liberator™, Asteroids Deluxe® , and Space Duel.

Nice! How difficult was it to assemble and how long did it take? Do you turn it off when not in use?

Re: Arcade 1UP
There is an on/off switch on the main console, so I keep it off.
I'll probably get the Mortal Kombat Midway Legacy next since it contains a lot of my old favorites like Joust and Rootbeer Tapper. Then decide between the Street Fighter legacy or Marvel v Capcom after that. Still hoping that they release Tron someday.

I've been waiting for this announcement... Both Tron and Killer Instinct cabinets are available to preorder now. 10% off electronics Target Circle coupon works on these preorders.

Man they're so cool. Wish I had space for a few. And was handy enough to assemble one.

I'm not particularly handy and didn't have much difficulty assembling the one I have.
I think T2 might be the first game to use guns. Would be interested in Virtual Cop if the price and/or other games included were right.

Re: Arcade 1UP
I have a couple of the older ones (Asteroids cabinet and Pac-Man cabinet). They are pretty easy to assemble.
Maybe they have gotten better, but with that generation the stock buttons and spinner were horrible. Also pretty easy to replace, but it was a must have for me. It didn't take very long before the machines started losing their appeal and collecting dust. I put a Raspberry Pi in one with a ton of games and still play it off and on now.
They really are not very big and the riser was a must have for me (I don't think they work well for multi-play games).

The Ms Pac-Man w/Dig Dug which I've ended up playing more than Ms Pac-Man. Highly recommend them if they include at least 2 games you really enjoy. Probably going to get at least one more at some point. The Street Fighter 2 one they just came out with is pretty tempting. When I don't have my kids I normally leave it on as background noise. They find it distracting and usually turn it off within 5 minutes of coming to my place.

I wonder how the light guns will work for T2. I thought that it had to be a CRT monitor for a light gun to work (or some sort of motion capture thing like a Playstation Move).

Pre-pandemic I had considered getting a couple for my office waiting rooms. Now I don't think that would be a good idea. Plus I bet they'd break pretty quickly with heavy use.

So how does it work??? It uses smart image recognition with some clever maths and clever software. The Sinden Lightgun® contains a high quality and high speed camera which captures the display screen output and calculates where the user is pointing. A thin rectangular border is added to the display content which is used as a reference point. The software receives a captured image frame every 16-20ms and can calculate the required mouse movement as quick as 1ms. This gives a similar performance to CRT lightguns.

I went ahead and preordered Tron and Terminator, I have the Mortal Kombat, Star Wars and Galaga and their pretty easy to assemble but parts can get frustrating. I've always wanted a Tron game and this is much cheaper then getting a full size one. I want to get about 5 more of these because their alot of fun and nostalgic for me. I'd love Frogger more then the others but i havent found it In a store over here yet

Pretty much, yeah. I'd love to get Big Buck Hunter and Terminator but they have priced their self out of my price range. I have 6 at the moment with the most recent being NBA Jam that I found for $200 earlier this year.

The $450 price for the legacy machines are reasonable, they come with the matching risers, lighted marquees and bundle 12 games. As much as I wanted Burgertime or Frogger, the price for a single great game and a couple lesser games didn't justify the price for me. Marvel vs Capcom at $549 isn't too bad since it also comes with a stool which is $90 separately, and bundles 4 AAA Marvel fighters (too bad it doesn't have MvC2 though). I'll still pick up Tron, but I'll wait and see if I can get it discounted with another Target coupon/deal.

I did pick up the Midway Legacy unit this week. The construction was exactly the same as the Atari Legacy model. Comes with MK, MK2, UMK3, Joust, Defender, Rampage, Gauntlet, Paperboy, Rootbeer Tapper, Bubbles, Toobin, Wizard of War. Mainly played around with Joust and Rootbeer Tapper last night.

Re: Arcade 1UP
Joust is so, sooooo good. My grandfather had Joust in his restaurant when I was a kid and he had a roll of quarters he'd marked with fingernail polish so when he cashed out he could keep pulling those and all the grandkids could play for free. When I can find an Arcade1Up with it at a price I can afford I think I'll go for it, but especially if it can be like the Ms. Pac-Man Arcade1Up 8-In-1 wall unit I picked up on HSN last Black Friday. That is a definite space saver.

Re: Arcade 1UP
I wonder why they still make these with a separate riser rather than just making them tall enough to stand on their own. I guess the box is smaller, but still.
Do they all come with the riser base now, instead of it being an extra purchase?

Re: Arcade 1UP
Why do Arcade 1Up risers cost extra?
Why do airlines charge for bags?
Why do fast food places charge for "no ketchup, add mayo"?
Why do most every video game companies insist on microtransaction DLC?
Why do many online services and subscriptions have a free, base, and pro model?

My (probably incorrect) understanding of the original need for the riser is that the Arcade1Up arcade license is for 3/4 sized units. Initially, you had to sit and play these without risers. The risers later came out to put them at a proper height without breaking whatever licensing deal they have to sell these units at these prices.

Re: Arcade 1UP
I see these and I want them, but then I remember that I have 2 full size arcade cabinets in my basement that I never play. It's just not fun to me when you're not trying to make the stack of quarters in your pocket last. If I can just keep adding credits to keep going, there's no challenge, and really, no point.
I guess I could keep working on my skills to try to extend my playtime on a single credit, but I just can't get the same enthusiasm I used to get when I was running out of quarters.

Re: Arcade 1UP
It seems like all of the newer machines come with the risers, although I believe some of these new 12-in-1 legacy machines are getting re-released at Walmart at a discounted price without the riser and light up marquee. The generic riser is around $45 separately.

Also, without rereading the thread to see if it's been mentioned, some of the older units have been spotted at Big Lots over the past couple of months(Galaga & either Pac or Ms Pac-Man) for $300.
