It's so weird to me that physical games have become some kind of limited collectors item. I mean they're limited, so it's not like they'll attract people who haven't gotten the game because they can't get online or buy digitally, and it's so far past the digital release date that it'll mainly be people that double dip just to have it.

Limited Run has major issues with quality control. They've become a product marketer for collectors mainly. Fingers crossed they stick to solid releases on the switch.

In terms of their releases being broken, or in terms of game selection? I guess it's just that when I hear "quality control", I think of something more objectively broken/wrong, and AFAIK, Limited Run hasn't had any issues with their releases in that sense. (Their processes, like that whole Skullgirls debacle, though...)
I agree that they've been churning out way too much stuff, including a lot of lousy/mediocre games. It doesn't bug me because I'm not one of those obsessive collectors who has to get everything they release and every cover variant. Limited Run said a while ago that they were going to pare back how much they release, and they tweeted the other day that they're straight-up cancelling titles that were scheduled (but presumably never announced), so that shouldn't be as much of an issue before too much longer.
I really like the idea of digital-only games getting a physical release, even if it comes at a premium and can be a little bit of a hassle to get. I've gotten 7 titles from them so far, and I can see myself picking up some things on the Switch when it makes sense.

They are good guys, I'm happy they are supporting Switch and I do think they recognize this issue.

I’ll probably pre-order that. Looks like it could be a fun casual game and I’m curious about the story mode.

That looks awesome, but (thankfully for my wallet) I doubt that'll pass the kid test in my house. Not the kid test as in "will they have fun with it" but more like "will that cardboard last more than a couple of weeks."

yeah, the cardboard looks very un-reusable for repeated play.

Very creative but yeah I don't see that surviving much kid use.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
So the 69.99 Variety one will have:
2 RC cars
the fishing rod
the house
the motorbike
the piano
The 79.99 "robot" one will have that huge backpack that connects to all your limbs via string, and a visor to capture your head motion.
Hey, it's cardboard and software... but seriously at least these will biodegrade when it makes it to the landfills unlike all the Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and the legion of other videogame peripherals I've bought over the years.
This would actually be a cool summer project for my oldest one... though that robot one for sure would be instantly trashed. I'm curious what the strings pull on the joycon, though, since it's basically one joycon in the backpack for your four limbs and one on your head. Will it be like Rob the Robot, where you figure out really early on that it's soooo much easier to play the game without the accessory?

Ah, these were the placeholders for the preorders from a few weeks ago. At least Amazon did me a favor by canceling them so I didn't have to

I wonder if they will be able to stop 3rd party companies from printing out their own cheaper version? I mean, it's just cardboard, right? They could add a few small differences to escape copyright laws, couldn't they?

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
the kits will not be mandatory – although the cartridge is needed – since Nintendo plans to offer the cardboard design pattern for free for aspiring builders.

My friend used to be a Manager at a Georgia Pacific factory. Part of his training was folding cardboard and building boxes. He hated that more than anything. This would be a funny gag gift for him.

Does nothing for me, but in the age of Minecraft where building things that look like shit sell a billion, maybe it will work?
