does the controller have a textured grippy surface or smooth as silk like most controllers?

what's the big deal? i just want to know. you know i like my grips. just wondering if this needs them as well. no biggie. no reason to call me out.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Just find it funny that you always complain about that. I'd say it's no more 'grippy' than a PS5 controller. Probably slicker. But if you actually buy one, you can try it out and then add grips if you want them later.
Honestly, rather than buying everything at once, maybe try the joy con controllers with the grip that it comes with first.
The Pro Controller is nice but kinda expensive for what you get. Less features than a Dual Shock or the MS wireless controller and more expensive than either.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

true. I can always return it. good point trying the joy cons.

Decker 11-20-24 12:07 PM

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

They come with a grip that turn them into a single controller, essentially.

Another warning: the joycon sticks can and will drift. Nintendo will replace them for free but I avoid using them when I don't have to to avoid the wear and tear.

The 8bitdo controllers are also nice though none of them can turn on the switch like the Nintendo controllers can due to some copyright.

On a side note there are just some killer sales in the eshop right now, stuff like Persona 5 Royal for 15 bucks. Check out dekudeals to "browse" the sales though, don't use the actual eshop, which stinks for any kind of navigation.

it does look nice. i will try them out before anything. thanks Deck.

Only downside to the joycons is Nintendo doesn't supply a charging grip in the box. If you play docked on a TV, you would either have to buy their charging grip separately (which allows the joycons to charge while you play) or stop playing and reconnect them to the Switch console to charge them. The one they give in the box is just plastic, with no charging port to charge the joycons.

It's smooth, but I think you'll be fine. I'm like you where I have to add grips on my PS5 controllers, but the Switch Pro controller is fine as is for me. The grips it comes with are almost like a worn down slick leather, hard to describe.

What? I don't know about Xbox controller prices, but aren't Dualsense controllers about 50% more expensive than Nintendo Pro controllers normally?

No. Pro controller is priced at a maddening 69.99. Same as the DualSense until recently when Sony upped those to 72.99.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Ok, could have sworn I paid $50 for mine. But still not more expensive than a Dualsense.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Correct. Basically, the same as a DS. No idea what XBOX controllers go for these days.

Not that I want to enable Oldboy's spending addictions, but the pro controller is on sale at Gamestop:
https://www.gamestop.com/gaming-acce...ck/349481.html

49.99. Walmart has it for like 46 but third party vendors so YMMV.

appreciate you. I actually used Amazon credit for all so I could only get it there. still have $300 credit with them.

that Pro controller definitely looks like it will not need a grip. it looks like it is different texture than top of controller.

Could all of these physical games been bought digitally for Switch?

Those prices weren’t less. They were all $60. I got many for $52 or less. But, that would take up a lot of space all those digital downloads. Seems restricting. What is the consoles internal storage? I guess one of the knocks on the system is lack space, I presume. Though, im probably wrong.

Ugh. It's vouchers for two games for $99. And you can get Nintendo eShop credit for 10% off every day if you are a Costco member. That makes them $45 each. And no sales tax in most states.
And, as I already told you, you can store them on the microSD card. All of them on a 1TB card.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

We've had more action around here in the last day than the last year
  1. NEVER buy memory cards from Amazon. NEVER. NOT EVEN FROM AMAZON Itself. Oddly enough it was because of the Switch that I found this out. Bought and official Sandisk memory card directly sold and shipped by Amazon. Didn't find out until a year later that it was a complete fake. It stopped downloading games on my Switch and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Finally popped it into my computer and used a program to show it was only a 32 gb card. -rolleyes- Amazon didn't give a damn about it. Told me to go kick rocks even though they were selling the card. It's because they mix stock that comes from the manufacturer direct and that come from their third party sellers that they keep for a fee. It's unbelievably shady and they don't care.
  2. This is Nintendo. We're still working with 1080p here so a 512 gb card is quite sufficient. TotK is the largest game and it's only 18.2 gb.
  3. Nintendo Online - it's only $20/year for an individual membership. It includes being able to play a selection of NES, SNES and Gameboy games, as well as F-Zero 99, Tetris 99 and some other things. The most important feature is cloud saves. The Nintendo Online + Expansion pack is $50/year and adds N64 games, GBA games, Sega Genesis games and the expansion packs for Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing, and Mario Kart 8. I'm a huge Nintendo fan but don't get the expansion pass. I only get the family membership.
  4. I would highly suggest a procontroller. It will be $50 at most retailers in a few of days. Nintendo is having a black friday sale that includes pro and joy con controllers for $50. Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 1+2 $30. Mario Maker 2, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Switch Sports $40. Tears of the Kingdom $50. And various consoles on sale as well.
  5. Besides the BF sale the cheapest way to get first party games is Decker's favorite way he described above using the vouchers. I personally prefer physical (game preservation and I still don't fully trust Nintendo with digital media).
  6. I have a screen protector on mine because the screen is just plastic and could get scratched pretty easily. Plus I have young kids.
  7. Yes browsing the eShop really is that painful. It's not your internet connection. Use dekudeals to browse and keep track of prices.
