Shoot it's the time I'm getting the kids ready for school, I wanted to watch live because there's a rumor that the f2p launch of Disney Speedstorm is going to be talked up.

What a fun Direct! Heavy on remasters and indies, sure -- probably because Nintendo's A-teams are focused on games for the Switch's successor -- but super-eclectic and just packed with great stuff.

The rumors I saw panned out (down to F-Zero 99!), but I don't remember Speedstorm being in this one, unless it was in a sizzle reel or something. (I was working while watching it, so I might've missed some things.)

That sucks. It's amazing the lack of advertising 2 weeks before f2p. I haven't seen one ad.

Excellent! I was wondering if I was going to be able to use a voucher on both Super Mario Bros Wonder and Mario RPG since I only had one Voucher left and no other games I wanted but didn't already own. Now with that wonderful looking $60 Peach game in the wings, I feel very safe grabbing another $99 2-pack while they're available.

My 14yo is loving this game… not sure if I want to buy it yet. It’s $22 on sale with the DLC x 2.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Ok. So, if I were to get a switch, can I play all the old games I used to play on original NES and GameCube?

Are there any benefits over PS5 and XBSX, apart from games?
And I assume it just needs an HDMI cable and power outlet?
Thanks.

You have to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack to play the NES, N64, and Gameboy games. I don't believe GameCube games are on there. It comes with a HDMI cable and power cord. The Switch is underpowered. I only play exclusives and classic Nintendo games on my Switch.

Yeah, I was just wondering. I have a lot of Amazon credit. Enough to buy a Switch and a game, but just not sure I need another damn system.

Just get it if the money's burning a hole in your pocket.

Sure it's underpowered but that's not what Nintendo is about. It's all about the exclusives. And there are a lot of exclusives.

Keep in mind that the successor to the Switch is imminently coming with all signs pointing to a 2024 release (although nothing confirmed).

You have to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online ($20/year, $35/year for family) to play rereleased NES, Gameboy, and SNES games. It also adds cloud saves and online multiplayer. Look online for the list but it's pretty extensive. Subscribing to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack ($80 is for family, $50/year for individual) adds on N64, GBA and Sega Genesis games. It also grants you access to a few expansion packs for Splatoon 2, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing.

IMO, as a huge Nintendo fan, I don't think the Expansion pack is worth it. The $20/year for Nintendo Switch Online is totally worth it.

I would just wait for the next Switch if you have managed to wait this long without getting one.
Plus by the time it releases they will have like 2 more NES games added to NSO.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

...and Nintendo's year in review thing is up now too! So with these numbers in, I can say I spent 652 hours gaming in 2023, up to whatever point these cut off. Yikes!

30 games, 338 hours. Most played was Zelda of course, at 101 hours. 2nd was Octopath 2 with 64 hours.

My Switch year in review was pretty weak like my Xbox year in review. I only played 15 hours of Harvest Moon Snes.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

If there is a game I’m remotely interested in, I add it to my Wish List so that Nintendo notifies me when there is a sale.

Due to an email I got yesterday, I bought:

Shovel Knight Dig - $14.99 (40% off)
Dave the Diver - $15.99 (20% off)
Super Dungeon Maker - $8.99 (55% off)

Not bad I say. But I wish I would have gotten those eShop cards at Costco to add to my account first, but oh well.

Merry Christmas to me.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

The eshop is so slow and the sales are so full of shovelware that I'd recommend using something like dekudeals if you have an extensive wishlist of games you're interested in (and want to get alerted when they drop in price, plus see price history).

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I want a Golden Sun remake.

I can't wait until April, Jupiter is bringing all the Pricross e's to the Switch (didn't play it much because I never got into the touch screen, I'm a buttons kinda gal). It will start with just e1 for $5 and each additional one will be a DLC for $5. It will include the last one which was a Japan exclusive. No word yet on S10.
