Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

That's a great question that I cannot answer. Being stuck at home means I've been using it on the TV. I'll try to have a few sessions in portable mode and see how it goes.

Most of our joycons are drifting now (the red/blue set and blue/red set I bought at launch and the yellow set I got about a year later). It's become annoying - especially when trying to navigate option and menu screens.

Very annoying. Going to try this,
Switch Pro Controller Clip Mount Switch Pro Controller Clip Mount
. I like the controller way better anyway. Just not sure my boys would like to use it and/or if it feels top heavy. Tired of shelling out money for shoddy joy cons that are super expensive!!

Only one of my four Joycons (a red one that I bought as a second set) ever drifted. I got it repaired in January, took about two or three weeks. All good since.

I am a massive Switch fan and think its probably the best console since the PS2. With that said, the joycons are massive pieces of shit. I've gone through three sets on my own system and my sons system also acts up. The pro controller is an amazing controller though. Since I travel alot for work, i bought that same clip on for it about 2 months ago and I will never use joycons again. It is an essential accessory for the Switch

So this has been making the rounds. If you're worried, setup up 2FA on your nintendo account

2 factor authentication, like when they text you a code whenever you login from a new computer. Nintendo doesn't do text messages, though, they use an authenticator like google authenticator, still on your phone.

If you login to your account from
https://accounts.nintendo.com
Go to
Sign-in and security settings

You can see sign in history and setup 2FA under 2-step verification settings. What worries me about this are all the people who say they used unique, long passwords that were still hacked somehow.

At the very least unlink your paypal account if it's linked (under shop menu)

Thanks, not used to seeing it referred to as 2FA. Do you really need to download a google authenticator app? Seems like it should be done through the Switch app.

I got hit by a couple people logging into my account. The password was one I used to use on everything. They didn't do anything to my account (as far as I can tell). I changed by password and set up the 2FA.

You don't have to download the google one, but you do need some kind of authenticator app (Authy, for instance).

That Nintendo app is, sadly, a joke.

Sony PSN gets hacked and it's a federal case and a class-action lawsuit. Nintendo gets hacked and it's not even a news story?

Insert joke about the size of Nintendo's user base.

Changed my password and set up the two factor authentication. I think I’m fairly safe anyways as I use PayPal for purchases and the passwords I use are way different and I don’t save login information.

Here's some news stories:
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/...g-one-of-ours/

https://lifehacker.com/you-should-se...end-1842967392

There's a rumor it's a breach/flaw in the older Nintendo Network ID/password authentication which is different than the Nintendo account login, and can only be changed using a 3DS or Wii U. Turning on 2FA stops it though,

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/...&post=38828127
This is the prevailing theory on ResetEra. Old Nintendo Network IDs set up on 3DS/Wii U were linked to Nintendo Accounts for use on Switch. Once linked, the NNID is a federated account and can be used to log in to the Nintendo Account. Changing the Nintendo Account password doesn’t help as the NNID is a separate username/password combination. It explains why many people changed their Nintendo Account password and were compromised again shortly thereafter. It also explains why randomly generated Nintendo Account passwords weren’t making a difference.

Having 2FA enabled seems to protect both login methods.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Star Wars: Episode I Racer releases on May 12th and will be $14.99 digitally. I have fond memories of playing that game as a kid. My brother and I got our N64 fairly late in its lifespan for Christmas one year and that was the pack-in game. I’ll probably download it. Curious if it may get a physical release at some point from Limited Run since they have that LucasArts deal.

Follow-up article from Ars regarding the account hacking, emphasizing the Nintendo Network ID (NNID) connection, and using 2FA:

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Why does the Switch keep wasting my time telling me to play using untherered joy-cons? I just wanted to play some Super Mario Odyssey. I turned the game off because it keeps sending me messages about this garbage and new costumes that I don't care about.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Nintendo has confirmed that up to 160,000 accounts have been breached:
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/...g-one-of-ours/
Nintendo has now issued a statement (Google Translate) confirming up to 160,000 Nintendo Accounts have been affected by the recent breach. Nicknames, date of birth, gender, country/region, and email address information may have been viewable by hackers, the company says. There's no indication that credit card information was visible to hackers, though, even as some accounts may have seen illegitimate purchases through linked payment information.

Nintendo says it has discontinued the ability to link outdated Nintendo Network IDs to Nintendo accounts, which appears to have been the main vector for the credential-stuffing attacks. Compromised Nintendo Network IDs will have their passwords reset automatically.

Nintendo continues to urge its users to activate two-factor authentication on their accounts to prevent any further breaches.

Motion controls, they didn't make them 100% optional. Unfortunately you cannot shut off the controller messages, poor design choice there.

I had no idea what you guys were talking about but then I remembered I played through it with a pro controller so never saw those messages.

Mario Tennis Aces is a lot of fun in doubles mode with a partner. You can still find many people willing to play it competitively online.

I wouldn't mind grabbing Mario Tennis bit I'm waiting on a sale. I'm nearing the end of Yoshi so I need another $40 sale to pick up another new game or two.

First party Nintendo titles starring their prime characters really don't hit sales all that often. Definitely a good game if you get into the online play.
