the recent advances in mobile GPUs from both Nvidia and AMD has been pretty stellar. We aren't terribly far off from having ultra-portables that can fire up games like Assassin's Creed Origins at 60fps (albeit, in 1080p).

ie: the current XPS 15 line -- though those are still 15" and have a little ways to go, it's still a big step in the right direction without going the eGPU route.

Yeah, I've been telling my wife & kids that we are close to a tipping point. If you're cool with 1080 then we've probably passed the point on desktops at where you will ever need a new comp, while laptops are very very close.

Well, without VR.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

You can get Alienware laptops with 1070's in them now. Those will have no issue pushing current games at 1080/60.

Oh yeah for sure. I meant Ultrabooks specifically, standard everyday thin, light notebooks. Unfortunately most 1070/1080 model laptops remain bulky and generally trend toward a "Gamer" look (save for a few exceptions, like the Razer Blade and Gigabyte Aero 15x v8). Otherwise yeah, you can definitely get a pretty solid 4k gaming laptop already.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

I've been using Razer stuff for the last few years, including one of the original Blackwidow mechanical keyboards.

With a new house/office/desk, wiring for my PC has been a little weird and I decided to try swapping to some of Logitech's new wireless gear and grabbed a G603 wireless mouse and G613 wireless keyboard. I used to love the old Logitech MX518 or G5 mouse, so it's kind of nice going back to Logitech again. Hopefully their advertised lightspeed tech works as well as advertised

Re: PC Gaming Thread

I think our PC from Cyberpower PC is about 1.5 years old....but I swear by those people. We had the typical "Home PC" from gateway, then Dell and finally with HP. But I just got feed up with all the Bloatware along with the mass produced guts inside. So a friend suggested getting a Gaming PC that will have what we wanted minus the Bloatware. I checked several sites and settled with Cyberpower PC and have been 100% satisfied. I was astounded at all the options and choices of what I could pick. Even the packaging was impressive; came in a box big enough and packed well enough you think I ordered a Mainframe.

They have a great deal of choices that cover all budgets and constantly running all variations of deals from PC, Latopts, components, drives, case parts, mouse & keyboards....they really have a lot. And a big plus they really went an extra step on making sure we were who we said we were along with ship address. It was by far the best experience ordering a PC I ever have and next one will be from them again....

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Since I'm in this thread.....I wanted to ask the other day on a certain style game i'm looking for....something along the lines of maybe Diablo (have it for PS4) and/or something like World of Warcraft. I liked what i saw but not going to deal with $14 a moth...already in Elder Scrolls where it's about the same but that's an option to get some perks and unlimited bag space.

So is there something in that WoW and Diablo genre? Someone recommended some game called 'Grim Dawn" (Diablo style) but I haven't had luck on finding a popular WoW style game.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Ok, so it's been a few years since I built my current PC (built around a then new GTX750ti). Looked at a ton of "pre-built" gaming PC's (Cyber Power, Dell, HP Omen, Ibuy Power etc) I noticed that 8gb of RAM seems the standard amount. Even some of the higher end rigs seem to be built with only 8gb of RAM. Have modern GPU/CPU gotten that much more efficient? The few that did come with 16gb backed the video card "level" down a bit. Say from a GTX580 with 8gb to a GTX550 with 16gb.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

The Torchlight series is a dungeon crawler similar to Diablo. There are two out now; both are very good. I HIGHLY recommend Divinity: Original Sin 2. That game is fantastic.

WoW is a MMO so it's a bit different. There are free to play MMOs (like ESO) but they usually pale in comparison to the sub based games. If you're OK with a single player experience, Kingdom of Amalur pulls from the WoW style well.

I think it's more because the cost of RAM is fairly high now so it's an excuse for manufacturers to save cost.

Path of Exile is a pretty popular Diablo style game, and free to play.

Yea...I've seen that mentioned a few times in the Diablo PC side. There's another one that compares to that one but can't think of the name now. I think I read it thru some of the PoE reviews on Steam. Grim Dawn did look good and has different characters.

See...I looked at Divinity: OS 2 but that seems more a 50/50 split of RPG and action....liked what I saw in terms of combat but not sure on the stop, hit response, choose attack/defense and then back again style. May need to look into more.

Kingdom of Amular...have to check that out but straight out single player? I sort of like the open world single player stuff while offering the Horde, Dungeons and boss gathering battles. Actually I am playing Neverwinter and while it's been fun, just something there I cannot put my finger on that's a thorn in my side. Tried Skyforge and forget that. You reach a certain level and it's basically you need to spend to play.

And thanks for the suggestions and all. Wouldn't mind trying the PC stuff again but going form a 96" Sony Projector (PS4) to a 24" monitor I'm not sure of.....chair is ok though. I work for a Office Furniture Company that is a Steelcase Dealer and I have a Steelcase LEAP Chair that's good enough.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption finally came out a couple days ago. This was the Kickstarter project from the makers of Quest for Glory.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/375440

My backlog is pretty huge so I'll be holding off purchasing for now, but I'll put it on my wishlist and maybe pick it up down the line.
