Waaaayyy behind on this current gen's systems...so what do you guys typically use your XB1 for other than gaming? How does the live TV work? Any DVR functionality? Netflix, Prime, HBO Go?

I don't even have a PS3 or 360 anymore, haven't played any games for a couple years, and probably wouldn't play a lot even if I got a new system. But Fallout is calling me...and I'm thinking about dumping DirecTV sometime. Use my Apple TV for Netflix now, but I don't like it that much.

Would a current gen system be worth it if I'm not doing much gaming, in your opinion?

Hopefully we'll see weekly 360 BC announcements right along with new XB1 releases and game sales. In fact, it'd be smart of MS to tie in BC availability announcements with sales on the digital download versions of those titles.

I assume you're asking about TV DVR, instead of gameplay DVR, which is included.

There's limited DVR functionality if you buy the optional ATSC OTA (Over the Air) TV tuner, in that you can pause the existing channel you're watching for up to 30 minutes:
https://www.thurrott.com/xbox/xbox-o...-now-available

Full DVR features won't be available until 2016, and again only for OTA channels:

But it does work great with OTA ^

I only use my xbox one for gaming. I personally wouldn't spend $300-$400 on a next gen system for streaming purposes.

^ Yeah. Not only is it over-priced for such a task (Dedicated streaming boxes are $100 or so), it consumes a LOT more power than those dedicated streaming boxes for the same task.

That said, if you're anticipating at least a decent amount of casual console gaming, go for it. Current bundles and pricing isn't bad... just not worth it if streaming video is 90% of your focus.

I can't decide whether or not the new elite console is worth spending an extra $100 on. It probably isn't but it's so damn tempting!

1. Trade in 1tb xbox one to gs for $250 credit.
2. Buy Xbox One Elite for $500 at GS on Friday and get a free controller and game.
3. Profit!!!!

I really just want that damn elite controller but also being able to replace one of my current controllers doesn't seem like a bad idea either... I will have to see if I can trade my 1tb for a 500gb console and a few $ lol

Just hooked up my xbox one.

Question, maybe a dumb one and certainly one that has been asked but I can't seem to find a straight forward answer.

Can I redownload my xbox live games? Or transfer them some how? Surly the Xbox One handle running the Ninja Turtles arcade game...

Not your 360 XBLA games, no. The XB1 currently doesn't play most 360 games.

The 11/12 update will add backwards compatibility for some 360 games, including digital download versions of those games, but it'll be initially limited to around 100 titles. We'll get an official list of titles on 11/9.

The TMNT arcade game may never come to the XB1 BC feature since Ubisoft lost the license, and thus can't license it to MS for the BC feature.

360 games are not yet backwards-compatible. 100+ will be available very shortly though, with more on the way later (but not all XBLA games). The (rumored) list is like one page back in this thread and under a Spoiler tag.

Lame, guess I currently have a dedicated $500 Halo 5 box at the moment then.

Also since there are a few people here, verdict on Xbox One Blu/DVD Upconversion vs a PS3?

Well, those BC games are coming very soon.

And hey, if you have Xbox Live, you can grab TWD Season 1 and Pneuma Breath of Life for free right now.

If you bought Destiny as a digital download for the 360, that may be a free download on the Xbox One as a "cross-buy" promotion:

Oh yeah, I've been "buying" the free Games with Gold games on XB1 since launch, so once when I hook my XB1 up I'll have a few dozen games to play:

I thought about doing this but since I am mostly a movie guy and only occasionally a gamer I didn't think it was worth the $60 but now I am looking and it is only $35 a year...

Also anyone with an opinion of the xbox one as a BR player (especially compared to the PS3)?

PS3 is better. It's the best media player around.

XO is serviceable though

Yep. PS3 is rock solid while the XO still stutters during playback on a regular basis. I'm not looking forward to the day my launch PS3 finally dies as there still isn't a better alternative available.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

I was checking out the XB1 at Reddit and saw this about only plugging in the XB1 in the wall and not into a surge protector.

https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/com..._into_a_surge/

https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/com...our_xboxes_in/

Spoiler:

I have mine plugged in a surge protector since day one and I have no issues at all. I would hate to plug it in the wall and have it blow out the PSU and fry the XB1 if there were a surge or power spike.
