Congrats on your Rhino Prime Buzz. That's good stuff.

Warframe is coming to Xbone on Sept 2, so it will finally be a real game.

Re: Warframe (PC, PS4, XB1) - Ninjas Play Free

Yea...yesterday was say the least pretty amazing to the point kanji literally hit the "jackpot". I don't think she really knows or understands just what she got in one day. Normally it would take the average player at least 5-7 weeks maybe to get what she got in 1-2 days. Honestly...I think she's a bit overwhelmed.

She still hasn't got the "Speed Run" down which she gets behind and trust me...after playing with her over the last few years on the 360 I can tell when she's getting frustrated. She likes and appreciates the help but she also like to lets say...contribute...and not be a 3rd leg. Not only all the mods for the Warframes but also the weapon mods might be making her head swim. Heck it makes mine dizzy half-the-time. There is really a lot to soak in compared to Halo & GOW we played. Even more than Diablo III when you get down to all the variations and technical aspects of just how everything works together.

But we really, really do appreciate all the work, time and effort. I will say it was funny she had a Rhino Prime before me even though it was for a 1/2 a day. Sad in a way I'll have to retire my trusty Rhino. He's been the workhorse of all the frames and probably the Best Overall when in doubt. Loki Prime will be the next target and probably the most difficult.

So mad after you left...got into a T4 MD and we got that dark character pop up...the one that came one time and hard as heck to take down. Got him down, he dropped a mod but we failed the mission. One person didn't even do 3% damage, another dealt like 14% damage and the person who hosted (Frost Prime) and me (Rhino) did all the other. Looking back should've brought the Nova which I've got to rebuild using your loadout.

Re: Warframe (PC, PS4, XB1) - Ninjas Play Free

Don't worry, he shows up every time in T4 Def and T4 Survival, and he shows up at least half the time in T4 Exterminate. Him showing up isn't rare at all.

She may not understand it yet, but I'm trying to get her to the point where she can realistically contribute. If Rhino Prime didn't exist, she'd already be in great shape, but I didn't want her to waste a potato on regular Rhino. In a few days, she'll be rocking a Rhino Prime with a reactor and a Soma, and she'll be golden. And she's doing pretty good with her Nova too. I also taught her how to get in games with randoms via /w, so she can farm without us.

Your next target should be Boltor Prime rather than Loki Prime IMO.

I just got myself a PS4 and downloaded this game. I don't know what I am doing, but it seems pretty decent.

Yea...the Boltor Prime. I just hope it's not going to be some long process like I had to go thru when I went after the Bronco Prime. good grief I can remember you and Sith taking me thru Tower runs several days looking for just one part.

And she will be set with a Rhino Prime, Soma and hopefully that Bronco Prime. I did think I had spares for all but it's one of the other Prime weapons...maybe the Burston or Braton. Oh...I did get the Boar Prime cooking...cannot wait to take it out. have you seen the latest...will we get this?

It's a legitimately great game with a very fair free to play model as long as you have somebody to give you tips on what to buy and what not to buy. The game has a lot of information to take in for a beginner, and it can get confusing without help.

But I absolutely love the navigation and combat, and it keeps me coming back month after month.

Send me a note or friend request on PSN, and I'll be glad to give you a tour and some basic mods.

I'm sure it felt like a long farm at the time, but you didn't really do that many runs for the Bronco Prime. Especially compared to other farms I've done. Brakk was the toughest by far, and anything with a 20 minute reward in Survival (Both Loki and Rhino) is kind of rough.

Boltor Prime BP is only tough because it's a T3 Mobile Defense, and those are kind of long runs compared to Capture or Exterminate.

And she will be set with a Rhino Prime, Soma and hopefully that Bronco Prime. I did think I had spares for all but it's one of the other Prime weapons...maybe the Burston or Braton. Oh...I did get the Boar Prime cooking...cannot wait to take it out.
Boar Prime is a solid option and is fun to play with. You'll need a shotgun ammo mutation if you don't have one. That thing chews through ammo.

have you seen the latest...will we get this?
Yes, we'll get it, and no, I hadn't seen it, and holy shit.

Came home for lunch and started Rhino Prime. Had enough time to try out the Boar Prime for a Alert MD (Level 12-18). OMG...not a single mod and still got 55 kills. Man I'm going to have fun with this. This IS THE SHOTGUN of the game. One round and got it leveled to 5.

LOL. Remind me, and I'll send you a photo of my Boar Prime build. It's pretty beastly. I do run an ammo mutation, but some others like to drop the ammo boxes instead. Too much work for me.

I like to run it with a pistol that's accurate at range like the Akmagnus.

I still like the pistol shotguns a little better than the Boar though...Bronco Prime and even moreso Brakk. They get the benefit of two multishot mods, and they're much more ammo efficient.

If you have any smart phone other than an iPhone, the headset that came with it will work perfectly.

New Update is Live and wow!...some serious upgrades especially the interface. I got into two of the new missions and to say they're different...yea. My Rhino Prime is ready and we'll see about tonight. Told Gator we would be on to help in out in Diablo since it's his first time but even he might want to jump in on this. Be great if we could get a group of four...going to need it.

been reading the details of Mirage on the wiki. She is going to be another that will take some work to fine tune and might have to have 2-3 versions. Her "Bread & butter" Prism has....

Duration increases duration of Lasers but reduces Range
Efficiency reduces cost but reduces duration
Range increases range of Lasers but reduces damage of Lasers per tick

It's about that way with all four of her abilities. And to get her it's a bit of riddle solving though they've already posted the places to go you have to build one part before doing the next one quest. I've wrote down the three places you have to go in order.

Re: Warframe (PC, PS4, XB1) - Ninjas Play Free

I was impressed with the overall amount of work they've done on the interface...basically a total rebuild. Take a bit to get use to in some areas but like the idea of your "own ship". And good for point out the outside view of the last planet you visited. Really seems to open up everything and actually feel like a "Space Ninja"...

Sorry we didn't get the crystal last night but after you and kanjji left I did a Invasion (3 waves) and landed one. I'll go home for lunch and get started.

I take it you have to actually build one of those "Clue Gizmos" to find the Mirage Parts even though you know where to go. I know you have to go to Olympus on Mars for the Helmet and I did two runs up to Level 20 and nothing. I know the second is Calypso. Got to get another Crystal to build that thing....providing you actually have to build it to trigger a blueprint. Already got Rhino Prime up to 48...

Re: Warframe (PC, PS4, XB1) - Ninjas Play Free

I didn't really need the crystal Buzz. Was just there to help. Not sure what was up with our comms there at the end, but I wanted to let you know that I never used my primary weapon in that T3 defense we were running. All Brakk.

Yeah, you need to build the "Hidden Messages" quest before any of those locations will work for Mirage parts. You'll need 5 "Orokin Ciphers" to build the quest, which is a new element that you get for successful vault runs. Mine finished cooking last night, so I'll be working on getting her parts cooking tonight and getting her cooking tomorrow.

I got my Kubrow incubating the morning, but the more I look, the more I think I'll be sticking with sentinels.

Would you mind doing the vault runs with us tonight? i know I could get in some randoms but both of us...not sure. You just got to open the vault and you get it at the end right?

Yes, and sure. Have to do 5 runs. If you host the runs it's pretty easy to grab a few randoms off recruiting.

Re: Warframe (PC, PS4, XB1) - Ninjas Play Free

Ok resident Warframe experts Chess and K&A.... I started Warframe this weekend. Holy heck, I have no clue wtf I'm doing. Even with the revamped new user experience it is still confusing. I can only imagine what it was like before it! I chose Excalibur as my 1st frame and picked a pistol and shotty as my weapons. Ended up doing about 4 or 5 missions. Somehow I was grouped with another player so at least we breezed through them. The missions rewarded me with items for my ship (arsenal, foundry, market, etc) as these things were not available at the start.

Some questions for you:

1. What is rank? There was a menu option called rank (or something like that) and it said I had to complete a test/trial to rank up. I tried but failed it. Is it to gain levels? What does it do for me?

2. Can I get by without spending real $ in it? If I want to spend a little $, what is a worthwhile purchase?

3. How do you get blueprints for other frames besides buying them? Earn as rewards?

4. How do you get new weapons? Are there drops in missions or have to buy in market?

5. My warframe is level 5 however I don't think my health or my shields max size have increased. Are those increased via mods or some other way?

I liked what I saw and did have fun. There is so much depth and strategy to this game that I didn't know it had (mods for warframe, weapons, building items, pets). I will definitely come back to it however with Diablo out and Destiny coming soon, those will take up my gaming time.

Thanks!

Rank is your mastery rank. It's not associated with the level of your frame but rather with your player profile. You increase your mastery rank by leveling up frames, weapons and sentinels and then by "testing" for the next mastery rank when your bar fills.

Mastery rank gets you more trades per day in the market, but more importantly in the short term, it gets you access to better weapons that are mastery rank restricted. By mastery rank 7, you have access to most everything in the game, so after that, it's just for bragging rights.

To maximize how quickly you get mastery rank, you should always have your next frame, primary weapon, secondary weapon and melee weapon built and ready to level up.

2. Can I get by without spending real $ in it? If I want to spend a little $, what is a worthwhile purchase?
You can absolutely get by without spending $, but you'll probably enjoy it more if you spend a very small amount. The only things in the game that aren't obtainable or craftable with in-game resources are inventory slots for additional frames/weapons and cosmetic stuff.

Tell me how much starter platinum you got, and I'll give you a starting strategy for that amount. DO NOT spend your starter platinum on anything other than inventory slots or Orokin Reactors/Calalysts.

You can earn platinum by selling items in the market, but that takes some patience and some knowledge about what sells and for how much. I think most people could probably get the $20 platinum pack (often on sale for $15) and end up very happy with how their platinum situation plays out provided they spend it wisely.

3. How do you get blueprints for other frames besides buying them? Earn as rewards?
You buy blueprints for most Warframes in the market (a few exceptions, but let's keep it simple for now). Each Warframe is craftable from 3 parts (helmet/systems/chassis) that drop from specific bosses throughout the solar system.

So if you wanted to build a Rhino, for instance, you'd kill the Venus boss as many times as it takes to get the three parts. Then you'd craft the three parts with materials obtained from around the solar system (helps to have some help with locations). The parts take 12 hours. Then you'd buy the Rhino blueprint from the market and craft him, which takes 72 hours.

It all sounds more complicated than it actually is. Once you've done it one time, it's pretty transparent how it all works. I could help you get everything for your first few frames in an evening of play.

4. How do you get new weapons? Are there drops in missions or have to buy in market?
Early on, you'll get new weapon blueprints out of the market and will craft them.

A little later when you've leveled up and have some resources, you'll be hunting for "Prime" weapons and stuff from the clan dojo. I'm an admin in the NeoGAF clan and can pull you in if you decide to go that far in the game and want to check out clan weapons and stuff.

5. My warframe is level 5 however I don't think my health or my shields max size have increased. Are those increased via mods or some other way?
Your frame's base health, shields and energy do increase with levels, and you can multiply by that base with mods. Redirection, for your shields, is the only one you should worry about for now for defense, and I tend to focus on my offensive mods FWIW.

I liked what I saw and did have fun. There is so much depth and strategy to this game that I didn't know it had (mods for warframe, weapons, building items, pets). I will definitely come back to it however with Diablo out and Destiny coming soon, those will take up my gaming time.

Thanks!
There is absolutely a ton of depth to the game, and I find it very rewarding if you like loot, crafting, shooting, crazy abilities, optimization, and deep customization. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and I spent most of my time before it reached its current level of polish.

I'll make the same offer I've given others to provide a guided tour and tips...along with some fundamental free mods to get you started.

Thanks for the info Chess!

I will definitely take you up on your offer. I will shoot you a message in game next time I see we are on at same time.

Excalibur good to start with or go for Rhino with your help?

Regarding Frame abilities.... do you have to equip them ala the mods? Do you get all 4 of the Frame's abilities to start or have to earn/win in missions? The game had me use them in the very beginning tutorial but I haven't used since. Also, I don't like how you have to use the swipe pad to use them though. I'm not used to that yet.

I don't know how many Plat I have if any; how do I tell? It is different from credits (the coins you get in missions)?

Thanks

It's no problem. At this point, most of the enjoyment I get from the game is helping others.

Excalibur good to start with or go for Rhino with your help?
All frames are fine for low level stuff. Excalibur isn't "potato-worthy" though. "Potato" is slang for Orokin Reactors and Catalysts, which double the mod points on the frame/weapon you apply them to. And since there's a Rhino Prime now, I wouldn't use a Reactor on a regular Rhino either. Lately, I've been suggesting that people start by farming up a Nova and giving her a potato, as most of the other early frames have prime versions, and she is absolutely "potato-worthy"

Regarding Frame abilities.... do you have to equip them ala the mods? Do you get all 4 of the Frame's abilities to start or have to earn/win in missions? You get all 4 of every frame's abilities when you get the frame, and they are mods that you have to equip in the four mod slots with the right "polarity" (the symbol in the upper right corner of the mod). Depending on how you want to build frames via mods, you will make some abilities more effective than others, so you might leave some of them off. More later on that.

The swipe pad is actually pretty awesome once you figure out how little of it you have to use to initiate abilities. It's super precise. I use about 25% of the pad on the far right and make very small movements. I don't have to move my hand, and it never misses my swipes. It's also kind of cool how the character's animation often corresponds with the direction of the swipe. Swipe up is always a direct or projectile attack, which feels right, and your ultimate is always swipe right and usually involves your character making some kind of right hand motion. Swipe down is often defensive or utility.

You can also set up the abilities to the d-pad, but you lose some other stuff, and I don't recommend that.

I don't know how many Plat I have if any; how do I tell? It is different from credits (the coins you get in missions)?

Thanks
Platinum is purchased currency, and credits are earned in-game. In most free to play games, dual currency is terrible, but I find it's pretty fair in Warframe. You can use credits and resources to craft almost everything in the game, but some things (mostly cosmetic) can only be bought with platinum.

Note that somebody has to purchase the platinum, but it doesn't necessarily have to be you. You can also sell mods and prime parts in the market to earn other people's platinum. You just have to be willing to farm stuff up.

You definitely got some starter platinum but it's pretty limited, and you used to get bonus platinum if you had PS Plus, but I'm not sure if that's still the case. If you open up the market, your platinum and credits will show in the top left next to your name.

I'll probably end up telling you to buy a few inventory slots and maybe one Orokin Reactor, but I need a base number to work with.

Re: Warframe (PC, PS4, XB1) - Ninjas Play Free

Chess, I believe I have 100 plat as I had downloaded the PS+ Free Starter Pack. I will verify later tonight.

EDIT: Actually, I have 200 plat. Tried to do the Captain Vor mission last night, solo, didn't end well. I died a few times on the mission before that too. So, either I suck (which is true), I'm underleveled, or you really need to group in this game.

Sorry, didn't catch your edit. I'm on most nights lately. Happy to help. I'll post again in a bit with a recommended spend plan for your 200p

Next update: Nyx Prime, Scindo Prime and Hikou Prime

Re: Warframe (PC, PS4, XB1) - Ninjas Play Free

- Weapons inventory slots are 2 for 12p, so for a round number, I'd buy 5 pairs for 60p.
- Warframe inventory slots are 20p each, and I'd buy 5 of them for 100p.
- I'd buy one Orokin Reactor (doubles mod points) for your first top-tier Warframe for 20p.
- I'd buy one Orokin Catalyst (doubles mod points) for your first top tier weapon for 20p.
=200p

That should carry for a good long while, and you'll get at least one reactor or catalyst every other Friday as a 24 hour alert.

We can have a further discussion about when to use your Reactor and Catalyst, as once applied, they are permanently attached. I have a set of top-tier frames and weapons that I would recommend and can help you get.
