re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Was reminded last night by Decker that the $100 spent and get $15 back deal is over on Tuesday. We were playing Destiny and got to talking about Far Cry 4 and I mentioned I was probably getting the digital version and that's when he said do it by Tuesday. Glad he did because I was thinking the end of the month.

I read that the "remote" player only gets 720p/30fps, not that resolution/framerate matter or anything.

But yeah, it really does sound like an awesome feature and the above specs literally don't matter for it.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Just curious, who here owns the PS4 camera?

Just wondering what's the primary use for it? Is it any way shape or form similar to the 360 Kinect? I have the Kinect and at least it's somewhat useful for the motion sensor games.

I saw it's on sale at Target for $39.99, which seems like a decent deal, but I honestly don't know any practical use for it. I only own a few games on the PS4. I have NBA 2K15 and there is a feature that you can use to scan your likeness, but I don't think that's a good reason to blow $40 on it.

Watch the video above. Mostly it's for Live feeds while gaming. There's a little robot "game" that comes pre-loaded on the PS4 that's only playable with the camera. Can't imagine it would hold interest for long.
Unlike the Kinect, it really has no practical use in any game (as opposed to the Kinect which is largely pointless but does have a few games that utilize it like the new Harmonex Fatasia game), though voice commands work (as show in in that video above)

You can use it for voice chat when your headset dies. It kicks in automatically within seconds so you can continue to chat. You can also use it for voice commands as well as for games like Let's Dance. There are even some games that you can opt in the camera use to detect your sounds to alert enemies (no thanks!).

Thanks guys. It doesn't sound like it's very practical for my gaming needs, so I'm going to pass. I'll save the $40 for something else.

You should put it towards a Sony Gold Wireless headset. That thing is THE BOMB. It sounds great for both game audio and voice chat; it also does voice commands if you really feel a need to navigate the menus with your voice instead of the controller in your hand.

I was thinking of getting one for the NBA 2K15 create a player face feature, but I have a closet littered with one-or-two-use peripherals.

OK, 2.0 is starting to be pushed out. I was knocked out of Destiny for it.

PSN Down Immediately After PS4 Firmware 2.0 Launch, Error Code NW-31201-7 Reported: Updated

The first major firmware for PlayStation 4 has just released. It updates the console to version 2.0 and adds ton of exciting new features such as Share Play, USB Media Player, Themes, Pause Download and many other things. Did PlayStation Network sustained incoming load?

According to reports coming out from users on PlayStation forums, Reddit and other social media platforms, PlayStation Network is currently down, and as soon as they try to login an error message pops-up "NW-31201-7"

This is a widespread issue, you can check out PlayStation 4 owners confirming the outage at PSN. Tell us in the comment section below, are you guys facing any issue with PSN in your region?

http://www.gamepur.com/news/16743-ps...r-code-nw.html

The official PSN status page doesn't mention any particular issues with the update, but as you can see from our batch of just-taken screenshots, we're encountering all sorts of problems. So far the error's we've experienced include:
• WS-37504-9 (when attempting to connect using Share Play)
• E-820001F7 (when trying to access our library)
• "This content cannot be selected at time (when we tried to get more themes from the PS Store)
• "An error occurred during communication with the server" (we were able to connect our YouTube account, but it wouldn't allow us to upload content)

It's possible that many of these errors are just a result of the update being just-released, and I'm sure many of them will get fixed quickly. In the meantime, it looks like we'll just have to deal with the shaky service until all of the kinks are worked out.

It better be back up by the time I'm out of work. I downloaded 2.0 and left the system on. A major FF14 patch just hit; I will be super pissed if I can't log in after work.

Things were a little spotty after I got the update installed. Tried running Destiny and it wouldn't connect. Then I did a connection test to PSN and that failed, which lead to several failed connection attempts to PSN.

I shut my PS4 down, started it back up and reconnected after a couple more tries. Then I needed a couple of attempts to connect to Destiny. Once I got in, everything ran smooth until I decided to shut down.

Changed out the blue color for grey. Tried the MP3 music player and wasn't all that impressed.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

I was able to get the FF download going (1.8 gig) after installing 2.0 so that was good. Just hope I don't have any issues tonight.

Had the same problem, had to go into safe mode and rebuild database, that seems to have fixed it.

And mine is doing it again, light keeps pulsing orange, then won't turn back on, I'll probably just do full power downs until 2.01

Themes are now available in the Store. There's one for COD Advanced Warfare, Destiny, and then 3 designs. They're all free.

Is the share game thing working? Has anyone tried it yet?

The new themes suck. Its harder to read anything using them. I do like the color changes for the original theme though. Red looks nice.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Tried the shareplay tonight with a friend in NBA 2k and he said there was noticable lag and also some graphical anomalies from time to time. I beat him by about 20 when we normally go down to the wire so the host has a pretty big advantage in sports games. Still a pretty damn cool feature though, will be great for other types of games.

I like that they're dynamic. I hate how loud they are. Destiny theme blares and whatever that boat one is is super-annoying. I like the Rectangle one though. Minimalistic, interesting visually, quiet and unobtrusive.
