Re: Watch Dogs
The irony in all of this is that GTA V was supposed to come out in March before getting delayed. It does make you wonder what Rockstar did in those 6 months. But they didn't wait until February to delay it.
You can't help but think that GTA made Ubisoft crap their pants. Flaws and all, GTA V raised the bar for open world games, and the expectations of people for a game like this, especially on a next gen console, are going to be inflated. Can Ubisoft match GTA V in 6 months? Probably not, but at least they won't have the burden of being a launch title released in the shadow of the last great game of this generation.

Re: Watch Dogs
I hope the delay is to improve the game and add content, not just for additional distance from GTA V.
After watching more gameplay from this game, I was probably a little harsh on page 2. I do think it looks pretty fun, but I am concerned by how transparent the mechanics are. Sure, it's really cool you can hack things in the environment, but are there only going to be five or six hackable objects you can use? And the implementation seems a little dull; like when the player is just driving around and hitting x through an intersection to scramble the lights. It will be boring if that's how easy it is. Hacking was one thing Deus Ex HR really did well, so I hope there is more depth to that system in WD.
I'm also worried about the variety of NPCs in game. I like that you can pull up personal data on anyone in the world, but how long will it be before we've seen the 10th Pro-Life Tobacco Lobbyist and the gimmick is old? Again I hope there is a lot of depth here and this information permeates the game.
One thing GTA does really well, and always has, is selling a believable world. This is another thing I worry about with a Ubi game. The sheer volume of activities in GTA V is staggering. The sports minigames, side missions, and entertainment (live and TV shows) - even if you never actually use them - add a huge level of immersion to the world. Just knowing that stuff is there makes it feel more real. I worry, as is the case in other Ubi games and open world games in general, that the city will feel barren, like a bunch of textured cubes that are "buildings" but nothing substantial to sell the world as a real place.

Re: Watch Dogs
I now have my eyes on this one as well since the colossal disappointment I felt with GTA V.
I really don't mean to go way off topic here but what again is so groundbreaking about GTA V? I don't get what I'm missing. I thought IV, for it's time really raised the bar and that they were onto something big going into V but....V is just boring, broken, and literally empty - I don't get the hype at all.
I watched the Watch Dogs demo on my xbox and while I knew I was watching the game play for the xbox one version....I really looked past its nice looks into what they were trying to do with the game - I really hope it plays as smooth as it looks.

I am not sure what the problem with Watch Dogs is, but Ubi does not have to compete or compare itself with GTA. They have had almost as much success with their Assassin Creed games (even if a lot of people did not like 3) and Far Cry 3 was amazing. They know how to do open world games, and in fact many of them I enjoy more than what GTA has offered.

Really I think people prefer V because Niko and his story was kind of a downer. The characters and missions in V are much more in line with previous GTA games.

.
Also some of the enviromental effects is the best I've seen in this generation (Water, Shadows reacting to the sun etc).
Boring? Maybe you were just expecting something different?

It looks like you will have to wait a little longer than the rest of us to play this one on your gamepad

Re: Watch Dogs
Another is since Splinter Cell Blacklist sold dismally on the WiiU
Watch_Dogs really does cry out for the gamepad, so I hope it pans out, but I'm kind of expecting an Aliens: Colonial Marines situation where a delay turns into a quiet cancellation.
That's not what Ubisoft is saying:
"We made the difficult decision to further delay the release of Watch Dogs on Wii U to focus the team's resources where they could have the broadest possible benefit for both our customers and Ubisoft".

I hope the game doesn't turn into an Aliens : Colonial Marines situation!
And wow - 11K copies of AC IV? That's terrible (and a really great game to boot). Nobody's going to want to port games to that system.

Re: Watch Dogs
But then again

That was "first month" sales, which was realistically a few days. AC IV has sold something like 130,000 copies on the Wii U with all the $20 - $30 sales. It doesn't help that while the game looked slightly better than the 360 and PS4 counterparts, it ran substantially worse.

Re: Watch Dogs
After watching the newest trailer, I'm concerned that this has merely become Assassins Creed w/ a futuristic/hacker theme brushed over top of it.
I guess watching the original trailers for it, I got more of a you are a hacker first, fighter if need be vibe. This newest trailer looks like you can kick ass with the best of them and just happen to be able to hack.
Still on the fence for this one. I'm not a fan of Assassins Creed at all.

Re: Watch Dogs
If this video is legit and they really downgraded the graphics like the video shows then I just might pass on this game. You don't delay something and then make it look worse than it did when you "showcased" it to us. The video on the right doesn't look any better than what we already have in GTAV and in some instances looks like the older True Crime games.
