I thought it looked next gen from when I first saw this. The detail level and the fact that it does not slow down or load makes that obvious IMHO. I'm an AC fan anyways so I'm in but probably not at launch.

Re: Watch Dogs
I always wanted a game like this set in Chicago, and it definitely has the feel of Chicago from the looks of it, but what's with the giant body of water on the South Side? I hate when game makers do that  Then again, I guess that means the Sox are gone, so it's not all bad ;)
Also, the draw distance isn't super since what looks to be the Aon Center pops in out of nowhere. I don't know if that means other buildings are just missing, or haven't popped in yet. I still want this game though! |

It's next gen but uses all the current gen "cheat" like reserving the highly detailed character models exclusively for conversations/cinematics and reverting to the lower detail models for actual gameplay and NPC's. It's pretty obvious from all the videos.

Re: Watch Dogs
Just watched the 14min clip. I'm impressed. This wasn't on my radar previously but it looks pretty damn cool.
However, I had to laugh at every time the player needed a car there just happened to be a sports car handy. Whenever I play an open world game it's either jump into the junker parked nearby or I'm running around in the middle of the street just hoping someone with a decent car drives by that I can carjack. |
Re: Watch Dogs
I had the opposite reaction. The game isn't looking as good as I expected.
First, that looks NOTHING like Chicago. Why even model it after a real city if you are going to completely redesign it and just drop in some iconic buildings and mimic the architecture a bit? Chicago is a giant grid, and all those curvy roads do not belong, much less the huge bridges. I was so excited to free roam in a virtual Chicago, oh well. The on-foot mechanics look like a hodgepodge of other Ubi titles and the hacking mechanics seem pretty basic. Basically just running around looking for a control box for a given area (like climbing towers in AssCreed to reveal surroundings), and then running around hitting a single button to interact with a limited number of devices (cameras, traffic lights, and some basic environmental stuff like road blocks). And then the driving looks like boring floaty arcade style where every car is a sports car going from 0-60 in 2 seconds, completely ruining any illusion that this is a real place. This, combined with the hefty arsenal, basically reveals Watch Dogs to be a generic open world arcade action game with some basic stealth mechanics added in. Definitely not the next gen experience I was expecting. |

Now you guys know how I felt when I got to "Salt Lake City" in the Last of Us. ;)

Why would you think next-gen wouldn't do that same "cheat", except with even higher detailed models/textures.

Watch Dogs' free mobile companion app detailed
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/09/07/wa...-app-detailed/ A post to Ubisoft's Ubiblog yesterday shared details on how Watch Dogs' "ctOS Mobile" companion app for iOS and Android will play into a competitive multiplayer mode focused on "fast-paced challenges." As a refresher, ctOS is the software responsible for the surveillance of citizens in the game's virtual take on Chicago. Players will use the app to foil the general plans of an opponent playing the console version of the game. Communications Associate Anne Lewis shared her experience with the app, describing a match focused on stopping her opponent from reaching four checkpoints within the allotted time. Lewis' efforts included hacking traffic lights and raising traffic poles to inspire crashes, as well as maneuvering a helicopter to reveal parts of the city that can be affected through the app. Killing the opponent doesn't end the match, but it does send them back to the start without returning any of the time lost in their previous attempt. Attracting attention to the player will also get the cops involved, so the more chaos the player using the app creates, the better their chance for victory is. A statement in the same post from Technical Lead Frédéric Blais clarified that app users "don't need to own the console game" to play. Of course, app users will still need to find a console-based opponent to douse with unfortunate events and ultimately ruin the day of. |
Re: Watch Dogs
That sounds more annoying than innovative. Don't be surprised if they announce a patch for console players to opt out.
|
Re: Watch Dogs
Since I have neither Gold nor +, I probably won't have to worry about a patch to let me opt out.

Re: Watch Dogs

Re: Watch Dogs
Watch Dogs is 30FPS on PS4 & Xbox One
http://www.videogamer.com/xboxone/wa..._xbox_one.html Watch Dogs will run at 30FPS on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, creative director Jonathan Morin has told VideoGamer.com. "Right now the frame rate we're focussing on [is] a steady 30[FPS]," said Morin speaking to us at Eurogamer Expo this afternoon. "There's always a balance, especially for open world, between the simulation and the rest. "I think for where we are, the most important thing is the steadiness and [ensuring] that it's always capped the same so when you play it it feels right." Despite confirming the frame rate, though, Morin could not confirm the game's native resolution on next-gen platforms, claiming that he didn't know whether the game would run at 720p or 1080p. Watch Dogs launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PC & Xbox One on November 22. A PlayStation 4 version is due to follow on November 29. |
Re: Watch Dogs
So then... 3 FPS on 360 and PS3!

And they won't even commit to 1080p either. What a joke if the new consoles can't even handle 60fps at 1080p. |

Yes... huge joke... ha ha ha....

I'm glad I'm not one of the 1080p/60fps or bust gamers. I do not understand this at all. Is it a PC gamer thing?

Re: Watch Dogs
Drivers are still in the infant stage, and it is always rough during the first year or so, so who knows
|
Re: Watch Dogs
TBH for $399 and $499 I wasn't expecting 1080p @ 60 fps, the loss of detail wouldn't be worth it, and I don't expect console manufacturers to take a $450 hit on every console sold.
Watch Dogs doesn't look like a game that would really take advantage of 60 fps, though 1080p is always nice. We'll see how the game actually looks soon enough tho I suppose. I would take maxed out detail running smooth at 720p30 fps over medium detail running quick at 1080p60fps. At least in single player and non-competitive multiplayer games. |

Why would you not prefer 1080p to 720p? The increase in clarity and detail is substantial in a video game. And it's not like I won't play games at less than 60fps, but I'm a little concerned the consoles aren't even out yet and Ubisoft is already aiming for 30fps. 30fps and 720p is standard on the current consoles. They should be targeting 1080p and 60fps - those two things are more important to gameplay experience than whatever marginal increase in polygon count or texture detail they have planned instead.
