I went to swap out my Wii for the WiiU on the main tv today and figured instead of moving/getting behind the entertainment center I'd just plug in the sensor cable and power cable from the Wii. Nope. Power cable is the same shape but angled the opposite way making it impossible to plug into the WiiU. So stupid.

If they had left the plugs the same and you plugged the Wii power adapter into a WiiU, the WiiU wouldn't be getting enough power, possibly damaging it, while if you did the reverse, the WiiU power supply would fry the Wii.

And the PS1, PS2, PS3 Slims and PS4 all use the same cord. I must have a dozen of these from various tape/CD/DVD components:
The fat PS3 was an oddball, but it was OK for the reason noted above. The only power brick on any Playstation was the 3rd iteration of the PS2, which was impossibly small.

Yep, I have had so many of those power cords over the past 30+ years... I think I have only seen 1 slight variation of this with the connector that plugs into the device, one side is a different shape.

Yep, the Wii Power Adapter outputs 12V 3.7A DC, while the WiiU Power Adapter outputs 15V 5A.

The cord from the outlet to the power supply should be standard.
If it has a power brick, then it shouldn't be standard as there isn't a standard power brick.

I could go down to my "local" store on the 19th, but that is also our 15th year wedding anniversary, so... naaahhhh... I'll wait.

Re: Xbox One: Thoughts Turn Ironic on November 22nd
Chess already posted this in the PS4 thread, but I want to post it here as well:
http://www.edge-online.com/news/powe...e-performance/
This part of course sounds really bad:
a platform-agnostic development build can run at around 30FPS in 1920×1080 on PS4, but it’ll run at “20-something” FPS in 1600×900 on Xbox One. “Xbox One is weaker and it’s a pain to use its ESRAM,” concluded one developer.
It's not as bad as it sounds however, as they claim (and I've heard this claim from developers I know before this article was posted) that the graphics driver for the Xbox One is in a much more premature state compared to the PS4's graphics driver. I've heard about it in some detail, and to say it's even in beta state would be pushing it right now.

The graphics driver being unfinshed 2 months before launch doesn't seem like a silver lining to me, particularly with launch titles "going gold" in the coming weeks.

The hardware isn't different enough to make much of a difference. It's all about the software and API.

Re: Xbox One: Thoughts Turn Ironic on November 22nd
I thought the problem with the PS3 was that it was harder/more complicated to program for. This time around, it sounds like the Xbox One is the one harder to program for, since the ESRAM adds an extra level of complexity. For the Xbox One, programmers have to figure out what gets stored in the small but fast ESRAM, and what gets stored in the larger but slower DDR3 RAM, while for the PS4, everything just gets stored in the fast GDDR5.

Microsoft does a lot of boneheaded shit, but I seriously doubt that three months after the public reveal of the PS4 they'd present a console that's not at least on par with the specs Sony presented. That would be asinine. Are there differences between the two? Of course. One has advantages over the other and vice versa. Will every game be amazing on PS4 and subpar on Xbox One? Of course not.

I guess console graphics drivers are different then PC graphics drivers... weird...

yeah, this all reeks of Sony fanboy crap. basically a smear campaign. no doubt there will be differences in programming the game, but one won't be significantly better than the other.
