Actually, if we're looking at non-removable batteries, the WiiU dock is where it's at. Digging up a cord to charge sucks balls. A dock is a happy medium.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
On the WiiU, can't you remove the plug from the dock and stick it in the controller?
But my favorite solution from this gen is to have the Xbox quick charger and always have two batteries on there ready to go. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
The headset, or lack thereof, certainly isn't anything to get worked up about, though I personally have a negative reaction to proprietary inputs.
Whether it SHOULD be included with the console based on historical precedent is also kind of irrelevant. What matters is that Sony packed a 50-cent mono earbud in with the PS4 and they get yet another bullet point over the X1. |

I don't know. I used their first-party Bluetooth wireless headset thing and it crapped out on me pretty quickly. I've never gotten one of their wireless headsets to work worth a damn. Always come crawling back to the stupid wired one.
All headsets would have to be specific to 4.0 meaning I couldn't use some piece of shit $10 Bluetooth headset I picked up at Fry's. It would've sent information at a much faster and stronger rate meaning audio quality shouldn't have to be sacrificed and it would've been more energy efficient. If Apple can include 4.0 in all of their products, Microsoft and Sony could've put it in their next-generation consoles. |

If MS used a standard protocol, how would they sell you a proprietary headset?

Uh, er, they could start branding their headphones "MICROSOFT CERTIFIED FOR THE ONE!" And, then, uh, they could make Turtle Beach and other companies pay to get that branding? Yeah... that's the ticket... |

Unless you'd like to play your WiiU while it's charging in the dock. Then it's kind of a shitty solution.
Serious answer: If you throw it on the dock every night it shouldn't be an issue. |

Well with regards to the headsets, no-one is hardly mentioning all those with a nice pair of TB's expensive headcans might have to fork more money for another set if they want some for the XO.
Turtle Beach Unveils Xbox One and Call of Duty: Ghosts Headsets An answer to the lingering issue of proprietary connections....June 10, 2013 http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/...hosts-headsets Playing online games with a quality headset can make the experience. Unfortunately, if you've invested a chunk of money into a high-dollar pair of cans for use with an Xbox 360, the proprietary audio jack for Xbox One is going to make it difficult to chat with friends. Turtle Beach has addressed the issue by announcing a line of new headsets created in partnership with Microsoft. On Monday evening, Turtle Beach revealed the Ear Force XO Seven and the Ear Force XO Four. Both headsets are wired and offer surround sound. At $150, the XO Seven is the more premium option, offering the ability to change out customized speaker plates and a breakaway mobile cable with an in-line mic for taking phone calls while playing. The XO Four is also compatible with mobile, features a detachable mic, and will retail for $100. Interestingly, Turtle Beach mentions both of its Xbox One headsets will use an "adapter" to connect to the Xbox One controller. After it was revealed that older headsets would not be able to connect to the Xbox One controller, many were left with questions as to whether third-party manufacturers like Astro Gaming would sell adapters. Clearly, the concept is possible, but it's also obvious Microsoft is controlling the licensing. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Probably because proprietary stuff like that happens all the time.
iPhone 5 changed jacks and the uproar was minimal. It also sounds like there will be an adapter of some sort. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
So what are the odds that your 2.5mm Xbox 360 headset works with the apparently 2.5mm input on the PS4 controller?
|
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
I just wish that MS would enable audio to usb headphones. One simple set that would work in PC, Playstation, and Xbox. I don't need chat.
|
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
I don't know how the headset is connected but I expect to be able to use my Tritton Gears of War 3 headset. They basically include a cable to plug into the controller, I'm sure I should be able to just replace that cable.
|
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
You might be able to replace the cable but as it stands now....
Xbox One Incompatible with Current Gaming Headsets With the introduction of the new Xbox One controller, Microsoft is changing the way headsets access chat audio, making current products incompatible. http://me.ign.com/en/news/11424/xbox...aming-headsets |

Apple already tried, China is just too smart.

The new Kinect's mic and noise-cancellation are pretty powerful, so ideally, you don't need a headset to chat with a friend. However, for those people who actually game on multiplayer quite often, those would never use the stock headset.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they figured all that out. The problem is all the MP audio coming from the theater speakers. It's one thing being called a *** through the headset, and another to have that blast through the room/house for all to hear.
I still play Borderlands 2 a couple of times a week with my friends, mostly when the kids are sleeping. My X1 not only puts the audio in my ears for my own private listening as loud as I want, it keeps the house silent. Additionally my game-mates don't have to hear the spillage of loud game audio over my always-active microphone causing the dreaded echo. No big deal for me, I guess. My X1 unit will work happily on the PC that I'm building literally today as soon as UPS delivers everything and/or the PS4 I probably eventually get, though MP on that won't be as likely so it's about a wash other than 5.1 headphones. |
