Kinect is pretty cool tech, being forced to use it would be lame.

Adam Orth, creative director of Microsoft Studios mocking people who are complaining about requiring an internet connection to use the new XBox.

so is the new xbox using the kinect we have now or a new kinect?
I was a big supporter of the kinect when it was released. It had alot of promise, but it just turned into our Dance Central machine. It would be a mistake to force Kinect on gamers.

I bought a Kinect for dirt cheap over a year ago and still haven't plugged it in.

Can't get the original site to load, but stumbled across a couple places saying new documentation and details have been leaked at http://www.vgleaks.com/microsoft-xbox-roadmap-2013/. The gist seems to be that the BC add-on is more than that, as it can be used as a standalone 'system' to use Netflix, stream video, play XBLA games, act as an interface for your cable tv, possibly function as a DVR and do some other functions. It won't use optical media, but will have a hard drive. This piece can also be plugged into the Durango/720 to offer full 360 BC. Supposedly, the always online documentation was in reference to the add-on, not the Durango/720, and is related to the cable tv functions. Also supposedly, the Durango/720 won't do anything to block used games. Probably worth taking with an even larger grain of salt than is the norm, but it all sounds fairly positive.

That actually seems kind of neat to me. Obviously it sucks to have to buy new hardware just to continue to play your old 360 stuff, and its on the expensive side compared to other streaming devices like an AppleTV or Roku, but the idea of being able to detach it and use it elsewhere in the house to stream stuff on another TV and attaching it to the new XBox if you want to play old games on it seems nice.
If the standalone mini can also play XBLA games, that would make it even better.

^I've read (again, from Paul Thurrott, who has good sources) that the "mini" will be $99.

If Microsoft makes all the media features Free that's awesome.

The Kinect is nice for certain motion games, but for others I really prefer to use the controller even if they're "enabled."

I actually hope this turns out to be the case, because it sounds pretty awesome.
So if I have this mini thing plugged into my 720 and put a 360 disc in the 720's disc drive, I can play it? Yes please.
I'll buy a bundle with both components for $600 at launch.

How does the mini know I own (and can thus be allowed to download) games that don't use any kind of online pass?

That actually sounds like a good solution for backwards compatibility, and it means I can mothball or sell my 360.

I'm guessing people with just the mini will be limited to games they've purchased through the marketplace. If you have both the mini & 720, the 720 would read the disc, but the mini would do all the processing. Or at least that's what it sounds like.

If it's a disc game, my guess is that you would put the disk in your 720 and it would install it on the Mini, and that you'd still have to keep the dick in your 720 for it to play.

Wrong console, man.
It would be even more awesome if you could have the mini in a different room and still play 360 games as long as the disc is in the 720, as long as they're on the same network. I doubt that'll happen, though.

Wow, this sounds pretty cool. It would free up the current system to put into another room and still be able to fly solo with the 720 on the main set.
So on the checklist of negative rumors, back compat and always online seem to be taken care of. Now comes the biggie for me, forced Kinect. As a projector user, it needs to be wireless and work in a dark setting. Pull that off and I'll probably bite on day one.
