You have to wonder how important the Kinnect 2 is for the hardware to run? If it is not essential for the 24 hr check or other parts will they be able to drop it and have a $400 option?

Hey, before a few weeks ago, no way I'd assume that guy was a MS employee. Ever since that (since fired) employee started firing off on people in Twitter, it's been all downhill for MS as far as public relations goes.

I also don't get what that guy's point is. What was awesome about having to buy a disc and then having it be a coaster? They still have digital downloads that they can do whatever with (but apparently won't). While they removed the always online requirement, nothing is stopping developers from making that a requirement of their game and doing what they wish if they believe that people want that. What was the big revolutionary thing that I'm missing (besides the benefit of restricting used games for the sake of the publisher)?

My wife thinks Microsoft's policies are bullshit due to what the internet told her, but she loves what the Kinect can do and always asks me why I don't have one for my 360.
The $399 vs $499 makes no difference because, you know, I have a job... and I bought three years worth of Live memberships when they were on sale, so I have to use that shit.
And then fire Mattrick and everyone else.

I would bet the ability to turn off Kinect will be put in place by time the console is released, but you'll still have to buy the hardware.

Sadly that's what you are getting, I wanted the next generation XBOX. Man, this is probably going to hurt the gaming industry a lot. We already lost quite a few large companies such as THQ, I can't imagine who we are going to lose next. By the end of this generation it's only going to be Call of Duty and EA sports games left!

Hmm, sharing may not be dead forever? http://kotaku.com/surprise-xbox-one-...atch-514419715
"One of the things we were very exicted about was 'wherever we go my games are always with me.' Now, of course, your physical games won’t show up that way. The content you bought digitally will. But you’ll have to bring your discs with you to have your games with you. Similarly, the sharing library [is something] we won’t be able to deliver at launch."

Smart move. This was the only way they could compete. And, despite what discostu says, this is good for consumers.
However, it's still $100, still has forced Kinect, and I don't really feel like spending $900 before tax just on consoles this year. The cheaper and more consumer friendly console wins. I'll wait for a price drop on the XO.

Well, I would say this is good reverse in course for Microsoft. I may have to keep my preorder yet!

Loved to been a fly on the wall listening in to the meeting with all the big shots making this call. To do a turn around on this so soon after E3 and the comments afterwards...there had to be some serious shit flying around, ears burning and butts hurting.
I've lost some respect for them because they should've saw this when the system was in development, just like they should see not everyone wants a Kinect and a media center with gaming possibilities. They are making a change due to reaction from fans and even Sony which shouldn't be the case. I think it would be hilarious if Sony came out with a news flash and said..."We are pleased to announce that after getting feedback we're not making any changes to the PS4".....Still staying with my plan as is...PS4 at launch and keep playing the 360.

Here's the actual announcement.
You can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:
An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

Now they can make a stronger argument for getting the system based on the games, although there's still that little $100 forced Kinect issue.

Why would game sharing not be ready at launch (if it was going to be ready at launch before all these changes)?
