But wasn't the point that sheep, er typical gamers, stick with Halo? I jumped ship and I love Halo.

Basically, edstein's point was that gamers will stick with MS for Halo. I said I stopped playing Halo two or three games ago (don't know how many came out since 3), but I know I'm not representative of the gaming community in general on that particular issue.

But yeah, I also don't think that Halo is necessarily a strong enough pull to get people to buy the Xbone in the numbers that MS wants, if they stick to this DRM scheme.

Maybe Microsoft just made a huge assumption and thought publishers would love them for it and follow along since used games have been such an issue.

Yeah but I figured publishers were pressuring MS into pursuing it hoping Sony would follow suit.

maybe they did and then decided to ditch it, leaving Microsoft holding the bag LOL

People sent the signal to MS that digital and single owner is the way to go. Proof is in the numbers. And we are ALL guilty of it.

All this talk now about MS failing is just whining, and fanboyism. Teens, Tweens, and Bras will buy xbox because Doritos and Mountain Dew. Sad but true. Mass market no longer realizes or gives a shit about DRM. Cut the consumer rights BS. Every time you supported the online purchasing model and bought 2000 MS points to buy that 1750 point game and let MS bask in the glory of keeping millions of gamer's spare change, we gave up your rights as a gaming consumers. Now we complain after asking for it and shelling out money for years? Ha!

Look at all the retards that still stuck with MS, and still are making a Xbox one possible after getting fucked over with red ring after red ring. Paying $90 replacement fees, or outright buying a brand new consoles, for a known defect. Consumer rights my ass. Doritos.

I've been on a downloadable boycott for years. I did download Walking Dead. Big sale. The disc version was reportedly buggy. So I caved on that one.

I also bought a few of the indie games on Xbox. Cheap experimentation. I don't care if I lose them.

I've still got my original, never been out of my house, 20GB white model. I upgraded it to 125GB by buying a 2.5" drive, flashing the firmware to make it compatible, and unscrewing the old drive. Saved a bit of cash. Had a bit of fun learning. Had a lot of fun circumventing MS's silly restriction.

I don't know what others will do, but I won't fold. Microsoft has forced me across the Rubicon. I'm in this to the finish.

Also, I don't know about anyone else, but while I did buy lots of arcade games, those were $5 to $15. Big difference between that and $60 full games. Also, I erroneously assumed that the games would play on the next system. I will be far more careful about digital console purchases in the future.

I don't even mind that. I don't mind that I've spend hundreds on XBLA games, many that went cheaper later, some even that went free on Playstation Plus. I don't really mind they won't carry over (though that's not ideal). But I certainly do mind that my unused points and point cards now suddenly have an expiration date when they never did before, and that this new situation occurred at the same time that there's little coming down the pike in XBLA, Rock Band DLC has ceased and the new system looks like something I have no interest in.

Two. But I picked up 14 1600 cards for $10 each from various Targets over Black Friday weekend

Guess it's time to buy Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon rather than waiting for a sale down the road.

Might as well wait until the conversion happens, because you might get more in real world currency than you have in MS points, especially if you have so many. You can still use them to buy games once the conversion happens.

But yeah, I think that's a total bullshit practice that basically says to all 360 owners who still have points (which includes me), buy an Xbone or fuck off.

Wow. So buying $5-$15 XBLA games = across the board DRM supporter

That's certainly one way to look at things. If you need to know my buying habits; first, I basically averaged 50% off points since launch. So right off the top the entire marketplace was half price. On top of that 85% of those purchases were made during sales (the other 15% would be map packs and games bought before MS started doing sales). So the only message I sent was that I support digital gaming when it's 75% off.

So yeah, many(including myself) have said that cheaper digital games would go a long way to ease the transition to an all digital medium. Give me $40 games and I'll forgo my resale/lending rights. Pretty simple.

So how can you say buying digital is the same as supporting DRM and one company gets it oh so wrong, and the other gets it right?

There's much more wrong with your post(something or other about Dew & Doritos :hscratch:, paying for RROD repairs *cough* free!, point remainders, etc) but the other shit isn't even worth addressing it's so silly.

this article might have been posted already, but it is rather interesting.

"Xbox One's Greatest Enemy -- The Xbox 360"

http://gamentrain.com/xbox-ones-grea.../#.Ubhwi-ekoRr

Definitely a smart article. Maybe I have to see the games in person, but so far I haven't been impressed by either of the next gen consoles gameplay vids. They really don't look all that much better. However, I haven't seen them in person.

Graphics can't get a whole lot better than what they already are in my opinion. I am still happy with what games look like now. All other generations, I was sick of the current systems graphics and salivating for a new system. This isn't the case this time around. 360 and PS3 games still look good, real good. Spending $500 for a system that makes the games look a little better is going to be a hard sell to average joe.

Using a PC gaming analogy, here is the way i am seeing next gen (at least right now), turning current game settings to "ultra". Is it worth $500 for that? if you are like me, I don't mind playing PC games on medium/high settings -- the games still look good.

Certainly Call of Duty "annuals" (the gamers who basically buy one franchise a year) aren't going to be strongly motivated to update in 2013, since Ghosts is coming out on the older consoles.

That's fairly typical for a console launch, though, isn't it? A lot of titles released across both the old and new platform, with a handful of exclusives for the new one.

Go watch the trailer for Battlefield 4 or Ryse (which looks lousy but is visually impressive) and then watch anything current gen, it's night and day. Of course, the same was said between the Xbox and Xbox 360 (Xbox 1.5) when it launched so I guess I'm not surprised. But to me:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/csA9Ie5nXoQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

That is night and day with this gen, especially around the 1:24 mark.

That said, I don't disagree that the 360 and PS3 are still very good systems, their next iterations blow them out of the water but that doesn't make them any less good.

One of the things I'm looking forward to is the fact we now have sufficient RAM in our game consoles, boosting from 512MB to 8GB is pretty substantial and should take care of loading issues and numerous other things.

I agree with you that the current system graphics are great, and that's why between backlog I have and whatever else is coming out for them that I can wait a couple more years. The same thing happened for me not getting the original XBox until late in it's cycle as well, appears history is repeating itself.

But in terms of not being impressed by any of the next gen gameplay vids. I was seriously impressed with a lot of the details, techniques etc. that I saw from the Destiny gameplay in particular. That part when they first go into the darkness and then the whole place starts to get lit up by that probe and finally the lights themselves get turned on. That right there was jaw-dropping for me.

Of course. I'm just saying there's a large segment of the gaming community who will have no incentive to upgrade to anything this year.
