What'll piss me off is the few times a year I take my 360 up to the in-laws (who live in the northern Michigan sticks) so I can catch-up on late night gaming. They have a terrible connection and I feel for people that deal with this... that's why I just don't buy it'll be the norm going forward. If they do this, it's console suicide. It's one thing to have a GAME that requires "always on" (stupid still) but it's another for a console -- an OS -- to require it.

I know the specs aren't out on this yet, but just once I'd like to see the videogame console leader NOT try to sabotage its position in the next gen with arrogant, adapt to us or get out decisions. Nintendo with the cartridge thing, Sony with the two jobs/crab thing, etc.

Microsoft: Our next xbox is amazing..always online...always connected, you can download updates in the back ground and it is ready to go when you turn it on
Customer: Ok, can I play it offline?
Microsoft: No! Why would you want that?
Customer 1: My back room in my house where I have my xbox, the wifi is spotty
Microsoft: well sorry we don't want you as a customer
Customer 2: My internet drops multiple times,
Microsoft: We don't want you as a customer
Customer 3: I actually have great internet, but I have a second xbox at my parents house I play when I visit, they go to bed early, and they don't have internet.
Microsoft: we don't want you as a customer
Customer 4: This seems to be a form of DRM and I am uncomfortable supporting it
Microsoft: WE DEFINITELY don't want you as a customer
Customer 4's friend: Wait, I don't have a problem with DRM, but I have 3 kids in my home, each with their own xbox. I recently bought a Lego game and they each took turns playing it
Microsoft: we don't want you as a customer unless you want to buy that game 3 times.
Customer 5: I buy used games from time to time, but I also buy new games.
Microsoft: we don't want you as a customer, unless you only buy new
Customer 5: But some new games I buy with used money...and others I buy new after playing them used..like Gears 1 I bought used, but I bought Gears 2 and 3 new
Microsoft: We don't want that. We don't want you as a customer
Customer 6: I am in the military and play my xbox, but can't connect
Microsoft: we don't want you as a customer.
Customer 7: SO the only reason always online is a form of DRM...
Microsoft: no comment.

They have people who thoroughly research this stuff and do extensive regression models to see how they can best make money - my bet is on them not going the always-connected route.
What they might do, is leave a widow open on the Durango for if they want to go always-connected at a future date. But for now, it's just not feasible, and I'm pretty sure they understand that.

Yeah, like implementing an always-online rule through a backdoor after everyone buys the console is not going to create an even bigger uproar...Originally Posted by slop101

If its just a few games that start trickling in slowly, it won't be as big of a clusterfuck.

The best thing that could have happened is for this Ortho dick to Tweet his non-Microsoft backed opinion. Now the entire kingdom of video game nerds (myself included) are up in arms and voicing their disapproval. If this guy was trying to make a point, it backfired.

I know you can't paint the entirety of Microsoft by one douche's comments but you have to believe that he isn't the only one that feels this way. If they aren't careful they will find themselves in the boat Sony was in at the start of this generation.

I'll wait till I see the console, the specs, what it can and cannot do, what you have or not have to do and of course the games before making my mind up. For now it's pure speculation and nothing but guessing.

I was leaning toward Xbox, the persistent on-line rumor got me wavering. Now the fusion cell... Microsoft better step up.

If this "always on" thing comes to pass, I will not blink in skipping on the console. I'd skip on the PS4 if it did something that stupid as well.
Is this one before or after the above tweets?

I don't know if that comment is sarcasm or you honestly don't understand how technology works.Originally Posted by bippitty

Francis has a pretty good response to those tweets:

That would have been 10,000% better if it was Lewis Black ranting.

That guy really needs to go outside and cut down some damn trees or something. Or he won't make it to next gen.
