The problem with the second subclass is that you have to start from scratch again at Level 15. You don't get to reassign all your unlocks, so by Level 20 you'd have the same amount of stuff unlocked as you did at Level 5 for the original. So I haven't tried yet. I want to max out the main sub class for that trophy.

I have to admit, the story seems to be the weakest part of the game for me so far. Like you said, go to this area, activate this, now go there and wait while I activate this. I'm not hoping for a Michael Bay type COD game, but a little more action and excitement in the story would be nice.

I wasn't expecting much story-wise so that part doesn't bother me. I've had a good time with the game so far. Not mind-blowing, but not dull either. It's definitely been more entertaining playing with friends. It'll be interesting to see how I feel after Lvl 20 as far as character progression and the getting that grinding feeling. Hopefully I'll have a better experience with the multiplayer too.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
I have to agree with that review's comments on the length of fights. I know it's best to play in groups but it should be playable solo. I was doing a random mission and came across a "boss" who was one level higher than me. It took me over 30 min of hiding behind a rock while my health regen'd and emptying my clip into him when I had a chance. Probably used up over 1000 ammo throughout the fight. And that was just one of the random mission on Earth that you can grab. Can't say I'm looking forward to more story boss fights if they're as bad or worse than that. So far none of them have been but I'm still very early in the story.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
I haven't played the game (other than the beta), but I watched about an hour on Twitch a couple nights ago. The guy I watched was doing one of those fights with a friend and a 3rd player with no mic. They were all working their asses off trying to kill this big fucker of a boss. They must have repeated the mission 3 or 4 times in the time I watched, and they never got more than 2/3 of the boss' health lowered. I finally stopped watching and turned to another feed... where three guys were fighting a different boss and having the exact same issues. They finally took him down after about 30 minutes I think.
That did not impress me. Other than that, the few other streams I watched looked like a lot of fun. But if those boss battles are that bad, something needs to change. |

Re: Bungie - Destiny
The loot drops early on are pretty weak, but now it seems all I ever get is green and blue items. But it feels to me like good loot doesn't even start to matter until you're level 20. If you get awesome stuff too early on, it becomes obsolete after a mission or two. I'm constantly deconstructing weapons and gear that I thought was pretty awesome when I found it.
I had the same issue with Borderlands. The really great weapons didn't matter until you were maxed out level-wise. You could still easily make it through the game with mediocre stuff. |

Those aren't reviews from actual professional reviewers. They're user-reviews, and any asshole can make an account and stick 1-star review on there. That's not to mention user reviews on there, especially this early, are pretty much worthless.

Fine then, it is 75 now on metacritic from the professionals. That's mediocre territory. No doubt a lot more negative reviews will start rolling in. Obviously Bungie did the smart thing by holding off reviews so the preorders wouldn't get canceled.

Although the plus to these online games that rarely get reflected in final review scores is that a lot of content and changes can be made over a few months to keep things fresh and enjoyable, so a rocky launch can still mean a fun game or an improved game. |
Re: Bungie - Destiny
Eh, some amazingly dull games get incredible ratings, some incredibly memorable ones get slammed (and by slammed I mean around the 7s.)
Below a 6 and there's usually actually something wrong with the game itself. |

I've enjoyed the little I've played so far (despite the fact that it feels like I'm just replaying the Beta with worse loot). I'll feel mighty guilty if my best friend decides he doesn't like it since I got him to dump his 360 and get a Destiny PS4 bundle for this game. We played Borderlands 1 & 2 for almost two years each and thought this would be a worthy successor to those games. I'm not sure it is. |
Re: Bungie - Destiny
Well, the less than stellar reviews and general "it's not great but it's very good" feedback has prevented me from opening my copy... it's going back to Best Buy. In Destiny's defense, MMO's are not my kind of game anyways.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
I think it would have been a lot better if they just focused on Next Gen and didn't have to worry about the older consoles.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
I haven't read any reviews
Am I having fun with the game, yes do I understand any negative feedback .... absolutely This game like many already in the short time before it for this gen is a victim of it's own incredible hype/anticipation My initial thoughts when I first saw I believe the first trailer on this game (would have to look back somewhere in this thread) was that it was another bland generic shooter I was more forgiving during my time with the Alpha/Beta and poured countless hours into it because like many here we were all just grasping for something of importance to play on these next gen systems STORY MATTERS (if you are going to include a story) .... I don't give a flying fuck about The Hive, The Darkness, The Fallen, ghosts, Guardians, etc ..... why? because the story/characters are not compelling .... if you loose me there it becomes just like the games before it (Watch Dogs, infamous: SS) tune out the story and just go from point A to point B with my computer character, rinse, repeat ...... I believe there was a thread here asking if story mattered and yes it does ... that is what made a series like the Uncharted series so great for me ... didn't take itself so seriously and characters I wanted to know about ... if you are going to have a story and it isn't interesting just be like Plants vs. Zombies: GW and leave the story out ... that game is probably still my favorite next gen title right now I'll continue to play this game ... I invested a lot of time in the PvP of the Beta and haven't really touched that yet .... as a Killzone fan without a good next gen Killzone game to play the Crucible kind of fills that void for me |
Re: Bungie - Destiny
I have some of the same issues with the game, but it isn't a 6. Just isn't. It's too fun and too polished for that kind of score, even if it doesn't live up to the hype.
I give Polygon a 6.0 for holding the hype against it. And I expect other reviewers to do the same and to continue to verify how irrelevant they've become. I also expect the game to expand over time. If you want a similar but better experience (other than the story part, where it doesn't even bother), try Warframe. |

I'm returning mine, too. That review was brutal. |

If you want a similar but better experience (other than the story part, where it doesn't even bother), try Warframe. Many of the complaints they have are ones I've had myself after playing the Beta. Furthermore, many of those complaints are echoed by other reviews. While I don't necessarily agree the game is a 6, I certainly don't think it lives up to the hype. I'd say it's barely worthy of a 7 score at this point. |
Re: Bungie - Destiny
Destiny should have been a game earmarked specifically for selling next-gen consoles. I don't care what developers say but anytime they focus on two generations at the same time then one or both of them is getting gimped a bit.

(My house is still being renovated to make it a little more wife-friendly, so I haven't been able to play my shiny, new PS4 LE quite yet.) |
Re: Bungie - Destiny
I don't think any of the issues with this game are related to it being cross generation. If it had low quality graphics or substantially too much loading (which it kinda does, but it's not a deal breaker) I'd say that could be the issue. But the game looks amazing and runs very well with little to no lag. The issues I have with it are related to the game itself. Combining the fetch quests of MMOs with a FPS just didn't work out very well. Sounds good in concept but not so much in execution. I'm still enjoying exploring the locations but I could see this being a game I don't finish due to getting bored with it eventually. And this is coming from someone who enjoys FPS games and is addicted to a MMO.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
You ultimately agree with a certain critic or you don't. I know to avoid Arthur Gies reviews specifically because I tend to never agree with his viewpoints, not really sure on Philip Kollar though.
Some guy on Gamespot gave Dead Rising 3 on PC a 3 out of 10. Not because it was a poor port (for some it is, it has been fine for me), but because he found the game offensive. It's just like movie critics, you generally go by the overall consensus, but if a critic you follow recommends it, you're more likely to give it a shot. |
