Almost at level 11. If you really want to level up fast, play an hour or two of crucible matches. If you do well enough, you can end up with some good gear too. Some of the levels work really well for controlling area games.

What is the level cap for now, 20? Have they said anything about raising it? Or should that be expected with the first DLC drop?

The main problem of this game is the alpha and beta. You can go to the bungie forums, and people that's actually playing the game (not Metacritic users) are complaining about the game. Yeah, if you played hours and hours of the alpha and beta, you know almost everything about the game.

It's all about the grinding in this case. But you need something else to keep playing the game. Borderlands writing was great of course. It was funny. But it's another kind of game.

I don't think I played more than 6 hours of the beta, and right now I'm at level 5 in the game, so although I haven't done anything new, I'm still excited about the game. But I don't see myself playing the game for a long time. I mean, there are some games that I can play all year long. FIFA, COD, Gears, some mobile games like Tapped Out, etc. But I think that's fine with Destiny.

I really like what I've seen so far, which is basically the beta with fewer drops, but I have to admit that I have some lingering doubt about this game. Other than the visual presentation, which is a new level of phenomenal, it feels like Bungie went halfway with everything else. It's like they don't know what they want the game to be. Hell, it's not even sure if it wants to be a first or third person shooter.

Borderlands seems to have a more varied and interesting skill tree and a deeper loot system and better executed powers. Warframe has more compelling gameplay that's faster with cool parkour elements, and it has much more varied characters and weapons with deeper customization.

I'm not giving up on the game. Just not sure it's going to grab me in the same way that Borderlands and Warframe did.

Yeah, I wonder if they're going to adjust the loot drops post-launch. It seems remarkably stingy. I imagine those sorts of fixes are easy to do when the whole game is run off your servers.

Had fun running a couple of story missions with Sooner Doc last night. Think it's cool that a Friend can just suddenly pop up in your game without invites/parties/lobbies. It makes things more spontaneous.

Destiny is a very meat and potatoes game served on a fancy plate. I'll keep playing through the story but I see this one getting listed on Half immediately afterwards.

Also, it was rude and sexist to me.

Stingy loot drops are currently my biggest gripe; same as it was in Beta. Though, I could be spoiled by Borderlands and Diablo's epic loot drops. Is Crucible PvP standardized for all players to create an even playing field or does higher level gear come in to play?

The PVP crucible matches are horrendous. How is it fair to have Lvl 21 players with awesome guns and gear go against Lvl 5 guys that are just starting out? So stupid. Worst multiplayer experience I've ever had.

I haven't tried it yet...is there really no matchmaking in place to even things out? If not, what's the point of even trying it until you reach lvl20?

I'm up to level 9 and working on level 7-8 story missions on the Moon. Still enjoying the game but it's starting to feel more like a generic FPS game at this point.

As I've mentioned the drops in both the Beta and Alpha were far better than what I've seen so far. I started a new character yesterday and got up to Level 6. I've got (3) Green Guns...one was bought and the other two hand-me-downs from my other two characters. Green Armor items have been better for it...

However on my other two characters...Titan and Warlock about the same drop wise and the Green Weapons were bought. But I did get some better stuff doing the Free Roam on The Moon with my Warlock but only bumping the difficulty to Hard. We were getting some good rewards completing the quests.

Hopefully me, Chess and kanjji can get some good stuff tonight doing Free Roam and may try Hard. You better have some decent stuff before going to Devil Lair though. At Level 8 you need not even attempt unless you have decent Level 6 and above stuff

or you can be completely embarrassed
I played a lot of Control in the Beta did well/had fun but I was also leveled up

I tried playing a match once it was available to me yesterday but at a level 5 or 6 with little to no decent gear I was getting waxed

I'd much rather find other ways of leveling up for my sanity before entering PvP

That was brutal.

I think you've inadvertently hit on the thing that's bugging me about the game as I switch back and forth between it and Warframe...a game that is similar in some ways and better in others. There seems to be a lot of grinding for the sake of grinding in Destiny just so you can progress to the next area, but in Warframe, even when I'm grinding, I can multitask and look for Prime Gear, rare resources, mods, open new nodes, etc. There's simply more stuff, more options and more customization in Warframe...along with gameplay that I find more compelling.

Or at least that's what I'm feeling in the early game.

What's everyone's gun of choice? I'm loving using the pistol. The massive one shot damage is more fun for me than using any of the rifles. I take my time, aim for headshots, and most enemies fall in one shot. I have been able to kill knights in only 3 shots as well.

I do like the humorous names they've given some of the error codes, like marionberry.

No matchmaking that I can tell. When you first launch "The Crucible", you get stuck on this loading screen while it finds other players. The text on the screen gives you the impression that it's looking for equally matched players, but that wasn't the case for me. The game started and there were 3 players on the other team that were level 21+ (which I'm not even sure how that happens since I thought the cap was 20). I was level 10. Needless to say I got my ass handed to me repeatedly. They were practically one shot killing me every time and even when I got the jump on some of them, my wimpy guns hardly did any damage to them. I even tried to melee them, but it took 2-3 melee hits to kill one which is ridiculous. If you can get close enough to melee, it should only take one hit. So I would melee a guy, it would push him away a little bit, but not kill him, and he would turn around and kill me instantly. It was the most frustrating thing I ever experienced.

It could be good if matchmaking was better. You use the same exact character in the crucible as you do in the main story missions. So in way it's cool if you have awesome gear and your guy is a total badass, but it really does make it difficult for lower level players to have any type of success if they get stuck in a match with guys that are already maxed out.

Go back and look at the Patch Notes on the link I posted a few pages back. They did some buffing on some of the Rifles but actually made the Hand Cannon better. I even bought a Green Level 8 Hand Cannon for my Hunter last night even though he's a Level 6 so to have it later. The accuracy is quite surprising and the damage (impact) is second to none including snipers. I'd make sure you have on in your loadout.

That is why I like playing Control rather than Clash (team deathmatch). Funny enough, people seem to work together more as well.

Also nickdawgy, why did you even buy the game if you won't play it until you see reviews? Why not just wait for the reviews and then decide if you want to buy a copy?

I bought it because of the hype mainly. But people have said it's fun so that too. But I haven't had much time to game lately other than to play a couple games of NHL 15 here and there.

I'm sure I'll dive into it this weekend.

Also, after shooting the legs, shoot the neck when it starts to vent its core.

Thanks. I got with a fireteam of randoms and none of us, admittingly, aren't great at FPS's. 20 minutes of plugging away from downfield got us nowhere. Thanks again.

Honestly, it still takes a long time even if you know what you are doing since Destiny's bosses have MEGA hit points. Just wait till the fight after the tank. ;)

People who are discounting this game because of user reviews on meta critic need to go and actually look at those reviews. People are giving were giving it "0s" within hours of release...and if you dig you'll see that a lot of people were giving a 0 to their console of choice and 10 to the "other" console.
