Re: Bungie - Destiny
Meh. User CP...edit ignore list. Back to discussing games without pointless personal insults.
I think enough people in this thread have played and/or talked with me to know what I'm about. I don't play this game as much as I did early on, but I still have some hope for it. I have all kinds of issues with Destiny, as most of you know, but I also think it would only take a couple of changes to the economy and the character progression to make it a really great game. So my criticisms are intended to be constructive, and I don't think I'm alone.
First, I think the raids are the best content, and I'd like to see them treated equally. Second, if you absolutely have to increase level caps (which I hate), increase the gear for all raids to keep them them all relevant and to give players actual customization options. Third, seriously, stop it with the new currencies and making me re-level weapons I already leveled. Fourth, take a look at the difficulty, because if it's not stupid difficult, people will play your game instead of searching for cheese. And finally, stop penalizing me for changing weapons!
Edit: Oh and PS, give Scott a place to put his shit. #freeScott

On the flip side, I did play a little more of Destiny and managed a better armor drop, so now i'm 24. Like Diablo, it's funny how a tease of a new piece of gear convinces you to keep playing in hopes that if one thing drops, more will follow. That said, even if I get to the point of raids they don't look like my thing, as I'm not in to those lengthy marathon sessions or multi-part events even in MMO's like World of Warcraft. Without that, it does seem like it's just the same strikes over and over again with different modifiers which is kind of a bummer for end game.

Cheese cancelled bitches!
Actually, it looks like you can still cheese the darkness with that jump, and the bridge absolutely has to be cheesable if half the squad drops out, but it wasn't that hard anyway. Crota isn't all that hard either, especially if you have a 32 on sword duty. I remain very confident in the A team at a minimum.
I just don't know anything about the room before Crota. Never bothered.

With 6, it shouldn't be an issue.

3 full raids with my normal crew, and I got the best of all possible drops!
Which is to say that I got nothing that I feel even the faintest desire to level up.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
Just a thought on cheese vs non-cheese:
My crew normally got together for a fairly complex series of passing checkpoints around and soloing each of our characters through the bridge, and that process took 2-3 hours.
This morning, we ran the raid three times straight up with some minor cheese at the bridge, and the time differential was almost nil. And I dare say it was more fun.
Granted, this is a fairly competent team, and you can't trust my opinion because reasons, but I think all is not lost. Enjoy the raid fellas.

It was fun. And yeah, our little group there knows their stuff, and we had a 32 each run to handle the sword to make Crota far easier than back when we all tried before the cheese took over.
That being said, Bungie did a half-assed job at stopping the cheese. Yes, the lamps no longer blast you up. It's not that bad getting to the end legit, plus, you can jump (though it's not foolproof, and Gooter might not like it)
But on the bridge, you can still despawn. Get one guy over, and snipe as usual. Honestly, when we did it, it felt like Bungie broke it as the ogres came out much faster than usual. There does seem to be some issue with the totems on the far side, but still.
We got Ir Yut on the first try every time. We were sloppy no doubt, but still did it pretty easily.
Finally on Crota, apparently he will still stay on his knee with a disconnect. But only for 20 seconds. This is not something we tried. We did Crota legit, and while I was a little rusty with my timing, I did take Crota down in our third run. It was the sloppiest run we had, as I died twice, and overall I think we had 5 oversouls to stop. But we still did it in 4 swords.
As for rewards, my hunter got nothing but shards and energy. My Titan got the gauntlets he needed to complete his Raid set. He also got my 3rd Swordbreaker, and boots that were sharded. My Warlock got my 4th Swordbreaker, The Last Word (which will be sharded), and is still missing the helmet. Still no ship, still no Black Hammer.
On the nightfalls, I got a Truth, which I can't complain too much about, since I never bothered upgrading the other one I have. But it's also Bungie's continued trolling of me. 2 Truths, 2 Dragon's Breath, 0 Gjallarhorns.
Speaking of which, I saw yet another one of my buddies land the 'horn from Crota in our first run of the night. I'm no longer the raid sherpa, I just lead everyone to the one weapon I can't get.

Yep...there are some of us still in that exclusive, sad-to-say, not funny..."Don't Have No Jellyhorn Club"
So the latest on running Crota tonight, tomorrow, this week is.....?

up for 3 Nighfalls and any Crota runs we can do starting around 9:00 CT
as much as I want a Jelly I wouldn't make that trade
Hunger of Crota has made the lack of this exotic somewhat more bearable

i am up to level 8 with my warlock. Strikes are damned monotonous. I went through one with 2 other level 8s and it took forever. doesn't bode well for me in the futures since Strikes are the main thing people do over and over all the way to max level

I actually thought they were pretty fun, more so when I was lower level and doing them for the first time. I think it was just because they felt a little more dramatic once you get to the end boss versus the story missions.

Also, you should do a public event every day as well for the mats, coins, motes, and rep/marks.
Let us know when you reach 20 and we'll give you tips on the next leveling stage.

thanks for the help guys. my leveling has been rather slow due to me juggling a few other games. As far as the public events go, i am guessing you are talking about when something drops down and everyone in the area stops what they are doing to take it out. Everytime i have done one I have been the only person there. I rarely see any other players outside of the Tower hub and Strikes. I am on the 360 so maybe there aren't many players

Re: Bungie - Destiny
The most efficient leveling path is to do your PvE bounties and the story missions every day. Don't worry about strikes until you are level 20 though you can do a few here and there to shake things up. I forget what level but soon you will be able to pick up more than 3 bounties a day. Even if you are not going to play on a particular day, still log in to grab the bounties so you'll have them ready to go for your next play session.

As a point of reference, public events give you more Vanguard marks than strikes and are much quicker, and they can also give you the ascendent shards, ascendent energy you'll need to upgrade legendary armor or the motes of light you can use to get exotic engrams from Xur (occasionally). Public events can be done concurrently with bounties, which makes them even more efficient.
Bounties give you more XP than strikes and also level up your Vanguard quicker, which will allow you to buy armor quicker. They also sometimes give you planetary resources for upgrading armor and weapons.
Dailies will give you large chunks of XP, Vanguard Marks and resources along with some potentially nice engrams.
By the time you hit level 20, if you've maxed out your Vanguard marks every week with public events and dailies and leveled up your Vanguard rank, you'll be ready to buy legendary armor from the vendor when you hit 20, and you'll jump from 20 to 32 before you know it.

Re: Bungie - Destiny
Yeah, do it that way if you want to sit at 20-22 for a while wondering what to do next.
Ideally, the moment you hit level 20, you'll be sitting on 2-3 Vanguard Commendations, 200 Vanguard Marks, and a bunch of Ascendent Shards which you'll only do if you're hitting bounties, dailies and public events. Hopefully you'll also have at least one piece of exotic armor from Xur, which you'll buy with coins that you'll get from having done at least one daily public event and/or your first weekly heroic strike.
That all sounds kind of stupid, and it kind of is, but that's the way it works.
The only reason to do story missions is for the XP after you run out of bounties and to unlock planets for resources.
Edit: Also, skip the side missions if you can, because they invariably show up as bounties, and you can kill 2 birds when they do. Nothing like getting 12K combined XP for a single story mission.

That's basically what I was asking after the other nonsense came up; it seems like after level 20 you're doing the same thing anyway right? Grinding daily or weekly strikes for better gear until you can grind raids for better gear. I guess it's different for me since I wasn't in a hurry just to reach that point and was actually interested in the story for Destiny (as nonsensical as it ended up being, and at least one time through), especially knowing the rest of the game is just a big repetitive grind. Depends on what you want out of the game, I suppose.
