Mandatory installs of all games on both PS4 and X1 will definitely eat up some room though, as will digital. 500Gb is still a shit ton.

500 gb is a decent amount, not a shit ton though. As a PC gamer you learn that the hard way when Steam stops downloading while you're at work.

Of course, it all depends on how big the games are. That's 10 games if they're full bds, minus any kind of install files or buffering storage saved for recording, etc;. But could be 50 games if they're 10gb a piece.

For a digital distribution model, 500gb is too small, for a disc model with "some" installations it's more than enough. It's a tough call.

Also, lets not forget the math that every company likes to play with HD size.

Before anything is even added to the system, a 500GB HD is actually 465GB. That's just from the deceptive math they use. So there's 35GB off the top.

Then you have the system software, which could be around the 10GB mark. So all of a sudden you've lost nearly 50 Gigs of space before you even plug it in. In fact, there was some info going around that the PS4 will have 423GB available for storage:

And if you follow the numbers, that system had Knack installed, and had used about 38 Gigs of the remaining space. If Knack was the only game installed, that's gonna fill up the HD fast. If there were a couple games installed, then that might be more manageable. But 40 Gig installs aren't out of the realm of possibility. That's what Uncharted 3 uses on the PS3.

500GB is good in the short term, but it'll get small fast.
