re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Has any other new console ever had retailers do a forced price drop that was not initiated by the manufacturer this early?

I want Punch Out on that handheld more than anything... but I cannot pull the trigger on this system with that being the only incentive.

Punch-Out has been available on 3DS for some time already. You could get it there.

so i would end up getting it for like 33% cheaper? maybe i will do that. the hard part will be making myself return the other 2 games

Yeah, 33% cheaper as long as all 3 games are $49.99.

Buy 2 crappy $49.99 games so you don't keep them all.

Why would retailers do this on their own without some kind of incentive from Nintendo? If inventory is sitting, clear some games out but I have a hard time believing consoles, which they make minimal profit on anyway, are taking up so much space that they want to take a loss on them. How do we know Nintendo's not authorizing this?

The Vita and 3DS both had console deals shortly into their lifespan, but most of those were giftcard deals.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I wonder if my 5 year old will be pissed if I borrow HIS 3DS?

Edit: are you sure? A search at Amazon didn't show anything.

LMM, your username is perfect. That's how I felt when I saw that news earlier. I'm not a huge fan of the environments I have seen so far, but I'm still very excited! I can't believe that they are doing that. I'll buy it on day one, and I'll do so on my Wii U.

It's on the 3DS virtual console.

Frankly, this deserves its own thread. I paid way too much for a copy of the NES version with its original box a couple of years ago, but it was worth it. This will definitely be mine!

If anyone is interested in buying a Wii U, Best Buy has the Wii U Console Basic Set on sale today only for $249.99. It's fifty bucks off the regular price. The 32GB Premium set is still $349.99.

Relatively instantaneous. It goes from 23 seconds to 9 seconds. The big software problems, all the things missing at launch like Wii U Virtual Console, no big 1st party titles (outside of NSMB Wii U), all lead me to believe that they rushed the console to market a year early. I wish they had waited a year, or I wish I had waited a year before picking mine up.

Has anyone picked up Lego City Undercover? That was the one title I was looking forward to but decided at this rate just to wait it out.

Yeah, I went into the store today to get Punch Out and I was surprised at the lack of content there... I think I only had to scroll through three pages, and that included games that weren't available on the store and only available at brick and motor (which boggles the mind).

My daughter bought it the day it came out. She's probably a little over half way through the story chapters, and I'm about half way. I've probably invested 8 hours so far, but I'm not rushing the story chapters and I explore a lot. There are a lot of collectables so I'm guessing the developer's completion estimate of 40-50 hours is correct. So far I'm having fun with it, if you like open world/sandbox games I believe you would enjoy it.

The only two drawbacks I have so far, it seems slow giving you the abilities that you need to 'unlock' paths in the world, but since I've never really sit down and played through another LEGO game so I don't know if that's normal. The other drawback is the loading times are annoying and seem a little too frequent, it makes me wonder if the digital download would have been any faster coming from memory rather than disc.

I have Lego City Undercover for the kids, but they haven't gotten to play it yet because I hog the TV for Bioshock Infinite.

You guys weren't kidding about the loading screens on Lego City Undercover. I wonder if this is just a problem with what was supposed to be a launch game, or if this is going to be a problem with WiiU games going forward. I don't think there's even an option to install, right?

Also, I've been playing it more because my daughter's gotten into Skylanders Giants, and the battery life of the tablet really becomes a problem with extended use (it's telling that I've had this console since launch and only now am I realizing that).

I don't think Wii U games have an install option. It would be nice but the majority of users will probably never have more than 8gb / 32gb of storage.

The Wii U battery does suck...

+1

I didn't really notice as much when my daughter was playing NSMBU and I was playing ZombieU, but when we both sit down for Lego City Undercover sessions whoever plays second will be greeted by the flashing red light before they're done.

Ok, the Shawshank references in Lego City are pretty awesome. Aside from the horrible load times between major areas, really having fun with this.

I'll pick it up soon for sure.

Also, Super Metroid will be up on Wii U at some point in May for just $0.30! I'll buy pretty much anything they put up at that price.

Is there some kind of catch? That's crazy low. I remember when it was on Wii VC at like $8.
