So you don't think we will see a 199 unit hit by Christmas?

I have purchase several refurbished products over the last couple of years and been very pleased. No consoles, but one of the refurbs was an iPad that has been flawless

Hopefully this sticker price is correct:

Love that Nintendo is willing to embrace price points other than $59.99.

If it's anything like those Toad levels in Mario 3D World, hard pass! Those were the lamest part of that game.

A week after Christmas?!

That's probably a placeholder date. Nintendo's first party games are always released on Fridays or Sundays (right?), and 12/30 is a Tuesday.

I think "anything like those" is definitely fair to say, but it's not exactly the same:

I did like the Captain Toad bits on 3D World as a change of pace, but I don't know how well that'd play for the length of an entire game, at least for me. I can see myself getting it as a Christmas gift for the missus, though.

That seems like a totally fair price. I'm in.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy a whole game that plays like those levels in the latest Mario game.

Am I the only one who thinks Toad's voice is nails on a chalkboard? I blame the Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon that started it.

Wow, Nintendo has some awful rewards this year for platinum status. I was not aware they were going to all digital crap or I would have just left my games sealed.

You only buy games for the Nintendo points?

Free games are awful?

Look at it this way... Sony and MS give out 2-6 new-ish games every month for free. Nintendo makes you spend hundreds of dollars over the course of a year to unlock Ice Climbers or Donkey Kong 3.

Awful rewards indeed.

Same problem with me with the Platinum reward as the Mario Kart 8 code. I already had all the Wii U games they are offering so getting all those points was worthless for me. I would much rather they just let you pick a free game.

Microsoft and Sony also make you pay to play online multiplayer. The free games are there to sweeten the pot (and wouldn't have been if Sony hadn't started offering free games to compete with Xbox Live). Nintendo is making you pay nothing for online services and are giving you free games as an incentive when you purchase games that frankly you were going to purchase anyway. I can't imagine anyone is actually purchasing games they weren't intending to play JUST for the Nintendo points.

I am one of those people who has a backlog that will take me a few lifetimes to finish. I should have kept the games sealed as I will probably never get around to playing any of them.

They're not "free". Every year I open enough games to get the coins needed for platinum. Typically it's worth it as it's a physical item I can't buy. These "free" games are a joke. I probably have enough games already to get another platinum reward this year lol

The problem with this is that every year before this, platinum members had an exclusive physical item to choose from. Now we get to pick from a bunch of digital downloads.

edit: Apparently game & wario is the best choice if you have a deluxe wii u due to the 299 ddp points.

I look at it like I'm paying $30 - $50 a year to get free games every month and online multiplayer is a bonus.

if you are looking to get a free game with your platinum you can not go wrong with earthbound...

Let's be honest - the rewards the past few years from Nintendo have sucked as well. I still have a poster set rolled and some silly pin set sitting in my rafters (which of course don't even arrive until December). I can't even remember the last time Nintendo had a great Platinum reward.

However, they have done some cool rewards randomly. I have a Luigi's Mansion statue and a gold Wii Nunchuck. I always keep my points stocked just for that reason.

I wound up grabbing Game and Wario. It's a decent little game and having it available digitally means I'll play it a bit more. I'll sell my physical copy.

Well, I've spent hundreds of dollars over the course of the year to, you know, actually play the games, and the free games and other swag I've gotten from Club Nintendo is a just nice bonus, but ok.

Unless it's different for Microsoft (I have no idea) those games are not free. They are provided to you as long as you subscribe to PS+ or XBL. If you are not subscribed (or cancel), you can't play those games. The Nintendo ones are always available as the service is free. It's a 100% free anytime you want to play game.

I subscribe to Netflix but I don't own 100,000 movies. It's the same thing. Once you cancel, they are not available to you.

I actually liked the pin set! The super mario character figurine thing was probably the best. Last years reward sucked to but at least it wasn't a $15 digital game. At least give us an exclusive game!

Yeah, my intent is to one day play the games I buy but I know it's not possible to play the hundreds of games I have. The platinum reward still sucks. It shouldn't be an item that is easily bought for under $20.

The xbox games used to be free. I think they're like ps+ now though. I haven't really been paying attention as I got a refund for my live.

Did Nintendo ever get the account thing worked out so we don't lose all our purchases when our system dies?

It's not ideal, but yeah. Unlike competing systems where you can login and do it yourself, you have to actually call Nintendo and talk to a CSR or whatever, but it's possible now.
