Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
You would need a USB ethernet adapter if you happen to use a wired internet connection.
As for a hard drive, there is only about 25GB of usable space on the system so you may need to get one at some point, especially if you download a lot of big indie games like Trine 2 and Giana Sisters. I wouldn't do it right away though. Of course a major difference is that the Wii U games have more traditional controls rather than the motion controls that dominated the Wii. Although the Wii peripherals are compatible, most games use the new GamePad. The only games that really use it now are those that depend on MC like the Just Dance series. You can also get a very traditional "Pro" controller to use for extra players. |

Can someone give me the basic rundown between the Wii and Wii U, the game differences, what's ahead or a good site to look this all over. My daughter wants one but I'm lost on the Wii vs Wii U bit. Thanks....

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I'm going to pick up MK8 tomorrow, but I'm unsure what method to grab it with. Do I go physical and get the wheel that Target is offering or should I just download it and grab a wheel another time? (do I even need one?)
Space is not an issue as I only have WWHD on my internal storage and I have a 1TB drive attached. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
The wheel is for toddlers, IMO.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I always go physical in case I need to sell it later.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Saw Nintendo post the GameCube controller adapter for Wii U today specifically for Super Smash Bros. thought that was kind of cool and very unexpected.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Anyone interested in the free game download code? I have the three big titles and I just don't seem to care about Wii Party U at all. I don't know what to ask for, $30 Paypal maybe? I don't know. Just tossing it out there. Let me know.
MK8 is freakin' amazing btw. The surround sound is fantastic as well! |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
WiiU is really killing it for exclusives in 2014 with Mario Kart, Smash Bros, DKC, Bayonetta, X and Sonic.
Imagine if they had spent that tablet money on even slightly more powerful hardware and had some third party support. :( |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Alright so which controller is everyone using for Mario Kart. Wondering if I should get the Pro Controller while it's on sale at Best Buy this week.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Anyone else having issue connecting to online multi on mario kart 8? I have tried maybe 15x and have got into 2 games so far. Each time I chose either worldwide or regional and it searches for a game it goes to error 118-0516 or 118-0502 and it fails.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
You can only register one copy of a game per account, IIRC.
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Just went to grab a copy from Target and they were out, guess my preorder card for MK8 is worthless. I'll have to go try dig up a copy tomorrow hopefully.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Geez, don't try redeeming those codes on Club Nintendo anytime soon. That free game promo has reduced it to smoldering rubble.

re: Mario Kart 8 - I'd like to turn down the music and change a couple of the buttons, but I can't seem to find any sort of options menu - anyone?

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Cannot get over how insanely fun Mario Kart 8 is. I think it might've unseated Double Dash as my favorite in the series. (I have to admit to not being crazy about Mario Kart 7 or Mario Kart Wii.)

I'm going to wait until Monday… and if they don't have anymore then another store will get my business. |

Man, in this day and age, to not offer a standard options menu just for some simple tweaking of sound and buttons is pretty pathetic.

I just tried out the YouTube video upload thing for a replay. I smiled at the ending of this one. Take that DK!

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Nice.
Popped mine in last night. First race played the rubberband AI was in full effect. Guess nothing has changed in a decade. I was leading by a wide margin on the last leg of the third lap and get nailed by a red shell followed by a green shell. No biggie, I recover and get up to speed and get nailed by a blue shell. By this time the pack has caught up and then I'm nailed by a bob-omb and I sit spinning in my kart watching them all pass me. wtf? The gameplay itself is great, the game is gorgeous in HD, but the lack of options, stats/data tracking, leveling is just so far behind where it should be. It's so frustrating that they evolve so minimally. |
