Keeping up with the Q&A from the investor meeting. They're developing new hardware, as you'd expect them to, but it sounds like they're planning on riding out the Wii U. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
NFP = New Fucking Plan!
but will probably be Nintendo Figure Play |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Nintendo Finger Play?
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
New Fucking Pokemon
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Interesting. Nintendo Free Play?
For those with the 32GB Wii U, how quickly did you fill up your storage. I saw Groupon has the Skylanders Wii U console bundle for 215 with a $25 credit. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I read somewhere that it was Nintendo Figurine Platform.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Yeah was thinking of getting an external HD. 32GB seems so small to me, so I could save the money for the HD.

Plus you can sell the special Skylander and probably make enough to buy the external drive. |

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I'm betting this turns out to be basically Skylanders, reskinned.
However, how cool would it be if they designed, say, a complete Kirby game. The usual stuff you find in a Kirby game, gamplay, characters, etc. You can play it through and never even know about the NFP stuff. However, if you have, say, Luigi, you can play through the game as Luigi, with whatever benefits his character has. Luigi's Mansion, but now you're Link. Legend of Zelda, but now you're Samus. And you can switch at any time and play as Princess Peach. If they did something that wide-reaching, it would be more than just a gimmick/ripoff. It would be pretty revolutionary. However, I'm betting it's a Mario Party/NintendoLand series of games with toys. |

By and large, the games are pretty tiny. Super Mario 3D World is only 1.7 gigs (!), Wind Waker HD is 2.6 gigs, and Pikmin 3 is 3.9 gigs.
Remember that the 32GB only has 26GB usable, I think the 8GB only has around 3GB usable space, so no digital Pikmin 3 without the external drive. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
The funny thing about Nintendo Skylander ripoff thing, is that Nintendo ended up passing on an exclusivity deal for Skylanders in the first place. They don't seem to be making the best business decisions lately.

For the extrnal HD; Do you still need to have one that plugs into the wall? Or can you now use a USB powered one?

My daughter, who is heavily into Skylanders and recently into Pokemon, would love it. And that Rumble Blast game with the Gamestop exclusive figures was a poor substitute. Heck if they did Animal Crossing figures that came into the game, I'd buy them. Heck, how is Skylanders not even out in Japan? You'd think it would sell pretty well... |

Why revolutionary? It's still coding things into the game but restricting access to them unless you buy the DLC/statue/whatever. What's stopping them from doing that now?
For instance, let's say Luigi is always available as a player in Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart, no matter if you have the figure or not. If you do really well in Smash Bros. and save your Luigi data to that figure, maybe Luigi could start Mario Kart with better stats. That sort of thing...play in one game influencing another...enhancing rather than paid unlocking. Will they do that? Probably not, but let's be optimistic! |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Mario Kart 8 reviews are all really good.
A few - http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/15/567...8-wii-u-review http://kotaku.com/mario-kart-8-the-k...iew-1576700883 http://www.joystiq.com/2014/05/15/ma...er-conversion/ Metacritic at 89 right now. http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii-u/mario-kart-8 |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I don't know about all this NFP bullshit, but Mario Kart looks kind of amazing.
Do want! How do they make me want to buy the same stuff so many times? |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I had a blast playing the Wii version. A free game sweetens the pot. Gonna get Windwaker. Is the online for the Wii version still up?
