Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread

That's awesome news. I'd rather see it as a tablet/mobile release though.

Harebrained has put up a campaign for their latest Shadowrun entry: Shadowrun: Hong Kong. They're only asking for $100k as the game is already staffed and funded; they're just looking to add more to the game, which is scheduled for the middle of this year. They've already tripled their goal.

Exploding Kittens!

This isn't a video game, but a card game. Wouldn't normally put this here, but it's made $2 million in basically a day. One of the designers is The Oatmeal, which probably explains why it's doing so well.

Makes sense as their last release has gained a huge amount of buzz.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread

The YDKJ guys have a PC/Console game called Quiplash up on Kickstarter. There are still a few $8 Early Bird spots available. Looks kind of fun - especially if there are a lot of people involved spectating and voting. I loved the Jackbox, so I'll splurge on this at the discounted price.

And though they blame Sony for not providing them with the codes yet, to Pinball Arcade who won't be providing the Kickstarter backers with the Aadams Family code when it launches on the PS4 tomorrow.

How could they if Sony hasn't provided them?

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread

Yeah, it's Sony's fault. Still it's a bit of a bummer that those who spent $10-$20 on the table can't get it at launch but those who buy it for $5 tomorrow can. In any case, I've paid for the S4 table pack so I've pretty much wasted my contribution. Will most likely just swap out that code for one of the two tables I still lack (and I'm waiting on that code as well, but no rush with fifty-odd tables to play in the meantime).

Oh, I see what you mean. I'm not very familiar with TPA's release structure. That definitely sucks.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread

Sony and MS both came through and the reward codes are now available for both PS4 and Xbox One (the game itself is still not ready on the PS3 and Vita).

It's essentially WipEout in everything but name. From the Kickstarter:
We are a new and relatively unknown company but our veterans have over 50 years’ experience in the game industry – credited on shipped titles such as Grand Theft Auto, WipEout, Auto Club Revolution, the Colin McRae series, Carmageddon and Midnight Club. Racing games are at our heart. What we are hoping to do, with your help, is to take the pure high-speed racing aspect of AG juggernauts such as WipEout and F-Zero, and add in a whole new boat-load of features that you were gagging for back then, for an up-to-date treatment of this classic genre!

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread

Those reward tiers are kind of crazy. The game is like five tiers in. Who wants excusive DLC for a game they don't own?

I guess the idea is that you wouldn't have to commit so much money upfront: you pay for the exclusive DLC now, and then when the game is finished and released, you can buy the game proper. So it might be good for people who can't afford the full game pledge at the moment, those who don't want to risk a lot of money on it, or even for those who are too impatient to pay so much upfront and have to wait.

So this is happening. They hit all stretch goals in less than a day!

Looks cool. I'm unclear on how they're allowed to completely rip off Banjo though. No interest in backing a video game either.

Trademark and Copyright laws can be pretty rigid in some ways regarding what's protected. You can't trademark or copyright a game mechanic. The names, character, and plot likewise appear to be just different enough to put it outside the realm of copyright or trademark infringement.

It's labeled a "spiritual successor" to Banjo-Kazooie, which is a term game developers use when they're essentially making a sequel to a game they don't have the rights to. The Fallout series is often considered a "spiritual sequel" to the original Wasteland, for example (a game that only got an actual sequel this past year).

It was crazy watching the Kickstarter page for Yooka-Laylee last night and watching the numbers visibly climb at a very fast rate.

Sure, at $25 for the console game - why not?

Yeah, I'm in on that for $25. They better end up giving us a solid single player game though.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread

The main game mode is MP, but they mention they do have a single player mode in mind. I'm assuming it's going to be one of the stretch goals.
