Thanks for the heads-up. However, that article is just quoting from this other, more in-depth, article:

New kickstarter campaign for a game called Mage's Initiation: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...tyle-adventure

These guys (under a different company) remade some old Sierra adventure games, including a couple of the Quest For Glory series. Looks like they're making their own Adventure/RPG hybrid game.

Speaking of Sierra adventure games, there are only two hours to go in the music project of Sierra music guy Ken Allen. The nostalgist in me is thinking of putting down at least $50.

The Banner Saga project has gotten into some hot water recently as Stoic Games released the F2P multiplayer title The Banner Saga: Factions before finishing and releasing the main game everyone thought they were funding:

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread

I am a Banner Saga funder and they recently sent out an apology/excuses letter for that, basically stating that the funding wasn't enough to make the SP game so they needed to make this F2P game to generate revenue.

If the letter was the same as the most recent Kickstarter Update, then that's not what they said.
...we made 7x the funding we expected. We made the game exponentially bigger..

...We’re using any revenue we get [from Factions] for salaries. None of the core team have been taking income since we started the company last January...
So the funding was more than enough to make the game they originally planned, and possibly even pay their salaries while they made it, but instead they expanded the scope of the game and are now relying on Factions to pay their salaries.

Additionaly, in an update from last October, they wrote this:
Why are you making Factions in addition to the single player Saga?
As we mentioned in Kickstarter pitch, we’ve always intended to release the combat standalone early (we originally predicted “summer”). This helps us achieve several goals - players can get practice combat before the full game comes out, and get good at it. We hope it generates some interest from people who missed the Kickstarter campaign! And it also gives us a ton of dedicated feedback to help us fine-tune the combat for the single player game. It doesn’t hurt that the multiplayer combat is honestly a lot of fun! We hope you’ll give it a try.
So it wasn't a last-minute decision to ship something to generate revenue for salaries. It was something they claim they always planned to do, although they apparently didn't make it clear enough to the backers while the Kickstarter was running.

InXile will be putting up their Kickstarter campaign for Torment: Tides of Numenera on Wednesday, March 6th.

Here's a video of Chris Avellone giving his seal of approval for the project (NSFW; language):

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/p8hpnATIpqQ?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I do sort of wish this campaign was done after Wasteland 2 was completed, so I know what kind of product they're capable of putting out, but I do understand them not wanting to wait that long.

Torment: Tides of Numenera launched today:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...es-of-numenera

It is a "spiritual sequel" to Planscape: Toment. This article goes into its relationship to that earlier game:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news...Torment-Sequel

Brian Fargo posted an update on the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter to explain why they're Kickstarting Torment now instead of waiting for Wasteland 2 to be finished (basically they want to start pre-production on Torment now so that the development team can switch straight over once Wasteland 2 is done):
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/.../posts/420739?

There's also a separate, dedicated thread for the Torment Kickstarter in this forum:

Lord British has released the KS for his Ultima game:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...aken-virtues-0

Looks like a MMO, with a offline single player game?

I went in at 25.00 but I'm going to bail if I start seeing things that I don't like.

They spend a remarkable amount of time in that write-up talking about player housing.

Love the Ultima games (Ultima VII: The Black Gate is in my top 3 PC games of all time), but something about this project seems off. I'm gonna wait on this one for awhile.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread

Larian Studios, the makers of the Divinity series, have put up a campaign for their latest RPG, Divinity: Original Sin. The game is planned for release at the end of the year regardless of whether the campaign succeeds, but they're asking for funding to hire additional developers to add more stuff before release.

I did like Divine Divinity and played Beyond Divinity for a bit and the were both pretty decent Diablo clones. Original Sin, however, will be a turn based combat game. Some of the elemental-based attacks look pretty neat. I just may back this project.

New MMPORG from creator of Dark Age of Camelot, Camelot Unchained:

City State Entertainment, led by online game pioneer and Mythic Entertainment founder Mark Jacobs and code guru and CSE co-founder Andrew Meggs, needs your support to make the next great Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) for the PC and select tablets (stretch goal dependent) .As one of the very early online gaming developers (circa mid-1980s) and the creative driver behind Dark Age of Camelot®, Mark has seen online games grow from an unloved, mostly ignored part of the industry to a major driving force. He believes the time is right once again for a small, barely known studio to craft a title that can compete in today’s market, just as in 1999 when Mythic Entertainment began work on Dark Age of Camelot.

Defense Grid 2 is in development for first-half-2014 release due to an unknown investor seeing the relative success of the Kickstarter campaign and the delivered promises of Hidden Path. Very nice that, as a backer, I've already secured a copy of it!

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread

Among the Sleep is a first person horror adventure, in which you play a two year old child.

What happens when you mix a child's perspective and imagination, with the surreal nature of dreams? Quite a lot, I guess, but we think one of those things is an interesting premise for a horror adventure.

The game is heavily based on atmosphere and exploration, and using the two year old child’s perspective. For example you’ll be able to see your own body at all times, and you will have to interact with the environment to find places to hide from dangers.

Annoying commentary aside this has potential to be really scary.

Looks like an interesting game. A little 3D Dot Hero, Dwarf fortress, etc. thrown in.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread

There's a Kickstarter going on for a "spiritual sequel" to the Road Rash series called Road Redemption. unfortunately, the project isn't going so great, and the project creator has written an article about where they think they went wrong:

http://penny-arcade.com/report/artic...ed-to-take-off

With less than 3 days to go, they're $37,000 short:
