The only "console-exclusive" games coming in the next few months that have been confirmed are Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, MLB 14: The Show, and Daylight. I use quotation marks as these games are also getting (or have been) released on the PS3 or PC.
Few games have been made specifically for either next-gen console yet.

If they're going to OpenGL, they're pretty much going right back to where they started from. I can't say if Naughty Dog has the same tools that other studios have where they can cross compile code as Naughty Dog used their own in-house engine. However, look at Valve recoding their Source games to perform in OpenGL and Linux as an example of what Naughty Dog already has gone through. Originally Posted by Adam Tyner

Just saying that even with as much work is required, they're not starting from anywhere near zero.
Again, I wouldn't be surprised if this has been getting worked on for at least the past year if not longer.

I'll happily rebuy. I have been wanting to replay it.

I was just about to start this game. Not sure if I want to wait another 8 months. Does it have replay value?

I don't know where you are getting 8 months from. The Amazon placeholder? It will be out sooner than that.Originally Posted by bunkaroo

And as far as GTA V goes, I hope it does come out soon then since I never got around to buying it.

Ignore the Amazon placeholder date. It's a summer release.Originally Posted by bunkaroo

Naughty Dog confirmed in December that they have their engine up and running on the PS4. When you're talking about moving things to OpenGL and all that, a lot of that falls on the engine. Switching platforms doesn't require a total rewrite of gameplay code or anything, although it's obviously impacted. Maybe it's just semantics, but I just disagree with the statement that they're basically having to start all over.Originally Posted by Matthew Chmiel

I always thought when playing TLOU "This should be on PS4." I wonder if ND wanted to make it for Next-Gen but Sony wanted the game out quicker?
#507
Thanks guys for the info - I must have missed any earlier post that said summer. I'll definitely wait for that. I actually just finished GTA V's main story line but I'll probably pick that up too if the graphics are that much better since I tend to get a lot of replay from it.

I always thought it should had been a PS4 title when it was first announced in 2011. It broke NDs pattern of doing a trilogy on a current gen and doing a new franchise trilogy on next-gen. I agree with u, it was probably a SONY thing.

Only TLoU has no business getting a sequel so it would have broken trend anyhow.

I sort of phrased that wrong. I meant games made with Next Gen hardware in mind...not per say PS4 Exclusive. Originally Posted by Matthew Chmiel

Just like Dynasty Warriors remake out...made for the PS3 but got redone for the PS4 which I have no problem what-so-ever. There are are some good PS3 games out there that some of us 360 users wouldn't mind at all playing a PS4 version. Hope that clears it up a bit.

It depends since ND had once suggested that TLoU sequel would merely be set in the same universe while focusing on a new set of characters and a different story.Originally Posted by RichC2

Yeah, I absolutely love Joel and Ellie, but I don't need another game with them. They ended it perfectly, especially with the ending. No need to go back to see what they are up to, but I would love to go back to that world again, maybe in a different country next time.

Naughty Dog says they started work on the PS4 version after the PS3 version went gold.

Not at all. That sequence (specifically the moment with the giraffe herd) on PS3 was generated realtime, using the lower detail gameplay models. That brief snippet looked on par with the higher detail models that were used soley for the pre-recorded cutscenes. That's pretty impressive and gets the point across as to how improved the gameplay graphics will be on PS4.Originally Posted by Anubis2005X

Just announced a game releasing in two months. Makes you wonder what else they have up their sleeves.Originally Posted by K&AJones

Great news...having come from the 360 ( still play it) I heard a lot about this game on how good it was. As it looks now this might be the best game coming in June...for now. I saw demos of it in stores playing on th PS3 and it looked good then. Can't imagine how great it'll look and play on the PS4. The PS4 version is really loaded or seems to be.

Wait, a full $60 for one single remastered game? Fuck you, Sony!
Seriously. We got 3 remastered Ratchet games for $40. They've already made their money on the game and now they're charging full price for something that took little work to "remaster". No wonder they didn't make the new consoles backwards compatible. Greedy pricks.

Who said it was "little work" to remaster it? They have said that they have been working on it ever since the PS3 version went gold.Originally Posted by slop101

While it may be $60, that isn't exactly full price since it includes the DLC that PS3 owners had to pay extra for.
