They should just give the player characters super-powers that make driving irrelevant.

true, i played GTA4 for maybe 4 or 5 hours and I said f**k this crap and ebayed it.

I didn't really think 4 was that bad, driving-wise. I've been replaying a few of the older games to get in a GTA mood and it was certainly an improvement over GTA3.

Also, on the "too much realism front", San Andreas often gets dinged for the eating and gym stuff, but realistically you only need to go to the gym something like 6 times for a total of probably five minutes. After that you're basically buff forever. And if you save every once in a while, you don't even need to bother with eating.

Naw, 4 drove and played fine, it was just a bit dull.

You should have gone bowling with Roman more frequently. That helps.

I liked GTA IV, and the driving was fine.

The DVDT thing is an abbreviation. It's obviously only 3 characters short of the full name but it could be a helpful search tool for some of the long and ridiculous crew names.

The Max Payne 3 thing is just because the crew feature was rolled on that game and will continue with GTAV. The crews carry over from game to game.
