Since they are by far the number one franchise, they are the ones than can risk it. And this is, of course, for all the hardcore multiplayers, if they can see value in this. Something like, tools to rank up faster or stuff like that.
Right now, the one the comes to my mind, Bungie Pro is $5 for six months, right? And it's only the availability to have more storage online to share videos and pictures. I expect COD Elite to be $5 monthly max, and it should have this same kind of storage online, special maps (?), but specially, like I said, tools to rank up faster.

I don't mind as long as this is extra content for the hardcore player and doesn't cut content for the average player. But if they're trying to push this on all players, then I don't see it ending well.

From the link it seems everything will be the same for the rest of us. I mean, still "free" to play MP. I can see how they can limit some maps for Elite only though.

What I expect them to do, is exactly what more and more games are already doing with DLC.
Instead of actually working on new DLC for a game ...they are finishing a game, taking out parts of it, and selling it as DLC down the road.
What I expect Call of Duty 3 to do is take part of what they would have offered anyway out, and now call it "extra" for those that pay. I am sure they will have one or two nuggets to say "See what you are getting" but in the long run it is a money grab out of the hands of those that think they need it.
They can generate 15 bucks out of 3 maps now. They come out with these maps every 3 months or so, and they sell millions...there does not seem to be ANY saturation going on at all with DLC...which makes you wonder why they don't offer more maps more frequently...
Part of is is the cost of generating those maps I would guess...paying programmers, and development teams...So instead of increasing the frequency of the maps...they are now going to send out maybe a map every other month...offer stat tracking...storage...uploads...ect...
They will STILL have map packs for 15 bucks...and even if you have the service, you will have to pay for it..maybe they offer it for 10 bucks if you are a member, or maybe they go the PSN route and raise the cost to non members for 20 bucks...and keep members at 15...
Thank god I don't give a shit about this service...
I use this quote to much, but throw a frog in hot water he jumps out....put him in cold water and slowly turn the heat up and watch him boil...

I saw a articale from last December saying the "COD:Black Opps" had rked in almost $1 Billion in worldwide sales. No telling what it is now. You would think or at least have common sense to ask is that not enough?
If this succedes then expect more to come and then what? Someone paying a yearly fee thru a console and then have two, three, four or more other 'special online accounts"? On the other hand is someone say 'Battlefield 3" comes along and says, 'no-way we're adding any pay subscription"...guess where more will go.

Elite makes no sense for me personally. After I prestige once, I tend to lose interest in these types of games. For me, it's all about the chase of the next level or goal.

and you've got to expect the subscription-model for DLC on Elite will be like Playstation Plus. If you let your subscription lapse, then so will your DLC license.

Doesn't sound so bad after reading the actual description of the service. Looks like everyone jumped the gun to find another reason to hate Activision.

Here's some screenshots of the service.
Looks similar to what Bungie has been doing for 7 years now, except Activision wants you to pay for it.

I'm a big stat whore so this sounds cool to me. Hopefully I can finally sort my stats by map. I'll just be enjoying the free version.

I don't quite get it either. Sounds similar to what Bungie offered with bungie.net & Halo stats + a map subscription.
