What's a rare PS3 game?

Managed to dump a rare PS3 game for $100 on ebay last night. Sold pretty quick. Guess I should have marked it up more. So I'm off and running. :) |

I don't really get the complaints on the price I've been reading about, it's apparently more powerful than a PS3 and comes with a tablet controller for $50 more (the Playstation equivalent (Vita) is $250 now - yeah I know not the same, but...). Doesn't seem like that bad of a deal, though I suppose I expect most new technology to be $300 - $400 starting. |

The copy I have is complete with box, game, and instructions. Think I'll just sell mine off to fund the WiiU purchase
The other day I did a bad thing, but I don't regret it. I posted an add on Craigslist for a lot of 8 PS3 games and I had people from all over the country contacting me about it, not just people in my area. I've never had that happen before. The odd thing is that everyone at least mentioned one of the games. Here is how the auction read: I have for sale a lot of 8 Playstation 3 (PS3) games. They are all in great condition, and have been adult owned since day one. Three of them, Prototype, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, and Killzone 2, are even still brand new and factory sealed. In addition, two of the games included, Aquanaut's Holiday and Hakuna Matata, are foreign releases only and are not available in the United States in the first place. They do however work in EVERY PS3 system, and they are both in English so no worries. Aquanaut's Holiday is a game where you, as a diver, discover ocean life of all types, and Hakuna Matata is where you are on an African Safari finding all kinds of animals and taking pictures as requested. Both games look amazing with realistic graphics, and are must haves in my opinion. I do not want to split up this lot to sell them individually, so please only contact me if you are interested in the entire lot. I am only asking $100 for them all. I hated to, and I still sorta feel bad for it, but I sent the other guy a refund for what he paid me and haven't sold any of it yet. The game in question is the English version of Aquanaut's Holiday. That game alone normally sells for anywhere between $150 and $300 used (other than one copy that just sold for $99 that was still brand new and sealed that I assume someone listed as a "Buy It Now" or something) and is apparently one of the rarest PS3 games out there, if not the rarest. I learned my lesson and will better research games before I just try to sell them off. Anyway, I may let it go now to help further fund my Wii U endeavor. I may hold on to it to see it rise in value though since I don't technically "need" to let it go right now, so who knows. EDIT:

I bet you could have sold it for enough to pay for the entire Wii U and all of the games and stuff you'd likely want for it. I have never seen a brand new one listed on eBay, but then again I've only been keeping my eye on it for the past month. There is no telling what the ceiling could be for one still sealed. I bet it'll pop back up on eBay in the next week or so for like $500, if not for more, unless a serious collector bought it to keep, which is also very possible. But regardless, I'm glad you are pretty much there now, congrats! |

But it's not that much more powerful, and PS3 came out 6 years ago now. Word is at least the 360 successor due possibly next year will be 6 times as powerful as the 360. While I don't expect those kind of numbers for WiiU, I expect better than what they are releasing at this price point. That's why at most I'll be picking this up at say $250 with at least Mario packed in as well with it. In 2 years I could see that bundle happening, maybe sooner depending how the system ends up doing.
I'll be curious to see if Black Ops 2 really does run at 1920x1080 @ 60fps as stated when compared to the 960x544 on the PS3 and 1040x600 on the 360. Though watch it be 1080p with the same low res textures. I'm also still iffy on the Pro Controller for FPS, but hopefully some sort of 3rd party 360-style remote will be out soon enough. Also while the next 360 is rumored to be 6 times more powerful, I've seen rumors stating this is anywhere from 50% more powerful than the PS3 to 20% less powerful than the proposed specs for the new 360. Won't really know until it's available. Edit: I'm actually surprised at how undetailed the specs are. CPU: IBM POWER7-based multi-core processor GPU: Custom AMD Radeon High Definition GPGPU Memory: 2GB Total; 1GB for games and 1GB for System Software Basic: 8GB, Premium: 32GB Internal flash memory, expandable via SD memory cards and USB hard disk drives Slot-loading optical disc drive: compatible with 12 cm "proprietary high-density optical discs" (25 GB per layer) and 12 cm Wii optical discs SD memory card slot (supports SDHC cards) USB 2.0 ports (2 at front of console, 2 at rear) Sensor Bar power port "AV Multi Out" port HDMI 1.4 out port According rumors about details leaked by a Ubisoft employee just before E3 2012, the console uses an AMD Radeon HD 6770 and supports DirectX 11 Previously rumored to be roughly 50% more powerful than PS3. (Source: IGN) Recent reports of actual hardware however suggest it to be much greater, putting it around 20% less powerful than the next gen Xbox (which is rumored to be at least 6 times more powerful than current gen consoles). Again, all rumors however. I think the 8GB/32GB is really throwing people  our consoles have evolved to high value HTPCs. |

3D is already being ignored by most studios. |

Maybe I'm an asshole, but I'd balk at the sale and give a refund if they have paid you already and give the reason being that there was an error in the listing, but that's just me. Good for you if you go through with it, but I wouldn't have the, well, I guess decency, lol. You would be surprised. Most people want it for the rarity of it. Saying $500 was my conservative estimate. Since they are pretty much impossible to find still sealed the price may be closer to $800, if not $1K. Did you buy it at Play-Asia back when it was $29.99. I think that's what I bought mine for back in 2009 or so. Did you just never get around to playing it? |

I've never gone back on an auction (and have 100% feedback since 98), but if your estimates are right, I might have to consider it and chance the ding to my feedback. |

If I had one sealed like that and I didn't need to sell it right this second, I'd likely list it in a fixed price, "good 'till canceled" style for $999.99 and add the "Best Offer" option and let people decide what they are willing to pay for it. |

And Corvin, take the negative, and refund the payment. Get paid! |

This topic is just screaming for a thread in Other. |

Sorry for the derailment, BTW. Thanks for the advice guys. Sounds like I should take the feedback hit and get paid.

Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)
There's a Japanese seller that unloads copies of Aquanaut, "new" he says, for $70 with $12 shipping. I'm not sure $100 was such a bad deal. I just found my copy and think I have a buyer at $70 for my used copy.

Well my ebay handle is basically the same as my Gamertag so that's a giveaway. I haven't run into any other SithDraven alt names out there but mine.

If you have the English version, even used, you can get $150-$250 for it all day long, and if it's still sealed there is no telling what someone would pay for it to have in their collection. |

And I disagree. With some of us supporting all 3 console companies, I don't want a half dozen consoles hooked up to my tv just to play some older games. This is especially true when a new console launches and the new release schedule is lean.

Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)
So I can't get this anywhere without a pre-order? I got the N64, GCN and Wii all on launch day walking up to the store, but this is ridiculous.
|
Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)
bluetoast, I fully expect the whole "wait in line for 24+ hours before launch day" to be in effect for the Wii U. I'm shocked you even got a Wii by just going to the store on launch day though to be honest. It was a nightmare for a lot of people then, including myself.

Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)
Well for the Wii I did have to go at midnight to Target, maybe wait for an hour or so. But my Dad, brother and I successfully got 2 tickets.
We redeemed one for the system, and I gave the other one to some random guy in line at a Best Buy in the same strip, who didn't believe me when I said it would guarantee him a system. Wonder what happened to him. |
Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)
I bought my Wii after standing in line at Circuit City. Worked out for me then, why not again?
