I may just wait outside a nearby K-Mart....they said they weren't taking pre-orders and that it would be first come first serve. Already have an 8gb reserved...really wanted to get the 32gb though.

The Japanese version is full Japanese, no English. The ones that are so valuable are the full English versions, released in very limited numbers in China and Korea I believe.

If you have the English version, even used, you can get $150-$250 for it all day long, and if it's still sealed there is no telling what someone would pay for it to have in their collection.

Ahh. I get it now. I misread your other post.

Picked up Sin and Punishment, and Metroid Other M. Still going to get another copy of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, and Super Mario Galaxy 1/2. Still on the fence about the Kirby Collection has Nintendo confirmed that the Wii U will support the same VC, or is it something new altogether?

I'm not sure if this is old news but a demo from TSG on Dragon Quest X showed it being played completely on the gamepad. I knew some games would be able to; having DQ being one of them makes me glad I have one pre-ordered. Hopefully the game comes out here with not much of a delay.

Wow, didn't know it was that compact.

Have there been any pics of the back of the console yet? I've heard it may have HDMI only, with no AV out.

And it'd be the first time ever Nintendo has been accused of being too in-touch.

If it is, they'll offer a "displayport" type adapter. It'll be interesting how they justify not including it with the console.

According to Nintendo.com:

Video Output Supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i.

Compatible cables include HDMI™, Wii Component Video, Wii S-Video Stereo AV and Wii AV.

So it'll be the proprietary connector used on the Wii and HDMI.

That's good to hear. It'll make switching from the Wii that much easier. Maybe what I read just meant that they're not including the AV cable in the box.

RichC2 09-21-12 11:45 AM

Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)

Yeah that's correct, it includes a HDMI cable but no standard AV cables.

Cables have gotten so cheap that it's sort of irrelevant, though folks that don't order online much will be glad to have a packed-in HDMI cable, save them $30 (Best Buy, Walmart, Target) or $10 (for a 3 pack at places like Tuesday Morning). Of course they're a whopping $0.99 online.

I'm curious what the actual graphics card is in this thing, Ubisoft said it's a modified card based off the 6770. I can't say much about that, I have a 6870 and can play most everything in 1080p maxed out as long as I don't crazy on the AA, but apparently the 6870 is substantially more powerful (and since it was > $200 I don't think the Wii U would come close to it).

I went to a Wii U event today. I played several games and left thoroughly underwhelmed. The gamepad didn't enhance gameplay at all with the exception of Mario Chase, a minigame in Nintendoland. In Arkham City it was actively detrimental, and in most games using the game pad requires someone to do something mind-numbing and uninteresting while everyone else has fun. Unless this gets absolutely killer games that make far more intuitive and creative use of the game pad than the ones I saw, this is going to be a flop.

How about fitting your hands around the gamepad? It seems a bit oblong as compared to a traditional controller, like using one of those remote controls for a toy plane.

Barring the use of the tablet, how is the system? Functionality, smoothness, visuals, controllability, etc; ? I actually intend to sort of sidestep the tablet as much as possible, unless they come out with something like Trauma Center (which I loved on the DS but hated on the Wii).

Same. Hopefully supporting the Pro controller is mandatory this time out.

Here at the start, I'm mainly excited to use the tablet in ZombiU and for the platforms in NSMBU when my wife is playing. I also think the multiplayer features of the tablet are very much understated. That could be huge for those families who want to play multiplayer together.

Flop for you, maybe. You're in the extreme minority, for sure.

I didn't find it comfortable, and a few times had to readjust my grip on it during gameplay. However, that could be due to unfamiliarity and people might get used to it over time.

I didn't get to mess around with the system outside of the game demos they had on site. The games looked fine, but none of them looked better than a 360 or PS3 game, and the two most graphically intensive games (Arkham City and Ninja Gaiden 3) looked noticeably worse. In the case of Ninja Gaiden, I was comparing it to Ninja Gaiden Sigma on the PS3, and it still looked worse than that.

The ZombiU demo I played allowed one person to be the survivor and the other to place zombies on the map. It was kind of a neat idea but I could see it getting boring quick for the person using the game pad. And I can't fathom why anyone would want to be the person who places platforms in NSMBU. Talk about snoresville.

Yes, as someone who's actually seen and played with the system, Supermallet is in the extreme minority right now.

I preordered a Wii U and am hoping for the best too, but it seems awfully premature to be so defensive. His comments aren't out of step with what a lot of other initial impressions have been.

Supermallet 09-23-12 01:29 PM

Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)

And believe me, I wanted to love this thing. I wanted to walk out of the event saying, "Okay, is there anywhere left where I can pre-order a 32 GB?" Sadly, this did not happen. I'd be very happy to pick one up down the line if a string of AAA titles comes out for it that really make great use of the game pad. Until that happens, I'm fine with the two console and two handheld systems I already have.

I only went because my brother signed me up and especially since my nephew wanted me to go with him.
