Re: the destruction, I've expended many useless rockets at targets hiding behind walls and obstruction and they never seem to take damage. 1, 2, 3 rockets. Nothing. The wall crumbles a bit. Yay? but they never seem to die. And this is aggravating because that was one of the most glorious things about BFBC2. Blowing people up behind walls.

Star Wars is awesome and after a bit of nudging from fellow avid readers I'm finally into the New Jedi Order series and am into the Agents of Chaos duology. I'm assuming your name has to do with NJO? If so, excuse my geekiness overload that I love your name.

Darth Vong, I wish you the best for these next few days. And thanks for sharing a brief story about your dad. Epic Dad post is epic.

Yes my name is based on the Yuuzhan Vong of the NJO series. Originally the race was conceived as being exiled sith but they dropped that idea early on.

Not to crap on your nerd attack. But for some reason I always picture Darth Vong as wanting the name Darth Dong but not getting it because of some forum name censorship. And then Darth Dong runs around with a giant glowing lightpenis instead of a lightsaber slicing up Mods into pieces but he talks like Rick Moranis in Spaceballs while trying to talk with a deep voice. And his favorite saying would be [DarthHelmet] The Cock is strong with this one![/DarthHelmet]

I think because of the map design they toned down the destructability. (Which is good and sucks at the same time) I thought some things were too easily destroyed in BFBC2 and yet now It is ridiculously hard to take a building down and some walls are non destructible (dumb). They may have taken it too farr in the other direction.

Now, with the destruction toned down and with prone, BF3 is a total campfest.

re: Battlefield Talk
Gotta disagree on the campfest part. I was the victim of camping a hell of a lot more in bfbc2. With the addition of night vision and thermal imagers, anyone sitting still is pretty much dead. They're a big glowing target in your reticle. All I can say is play a little more. It's always tough starting out against higher ranked players. There are some pretty awesome gadgets to unlock as you progress with your weapons. I'm loving this game more and more every day.

We'll see...for now, I'm pretty bummed about some of their design choices and think BC2 is a much better game.
Am I right that the gun accessories are doled out based on using that gun? I'm still trying to find a gun that isn't pure ass and recoil for the medic, and I want to make sure I'm investing XP in a good one when it pops up.

Yes, gadgets are gun specific. And some of the initial guns are different between US and RU. You're better off settling on a gun that gets unlocked because those are available for both sides. And some (like the shotguns) can be used by all classes. I think the recoil is pretty harsh on almost every weapon, but you can switch between single shot and automatic on most weapons.

re: Battlefield Talk
Ugh.
Just played for an hour and change...the worst hour and change I can remember playing any game...ever. I got to play and get base raped in the two worst maps in the game and was matched up against dudes who were several orders of magnitude better and more coordinated than my teams were.
Thus far, I've never been able to team up with friends, and I've never been randomly put on a squad that was working together or even talking. They basically made CoD with vehicles, and I'm almost fully out of patience for this game.
PS: Whoever decided tactical lights would be a good idea...go fuck yourself.

I've been where you are, in being frustrated with the game. I'm there less and less, though. It's been taking some getting used to playing in a completely different style but I think I'm getting the hang of it. It's calling me to be a more patient player which I think is good, considering how often I bit the dust in BFBC2 because I'd just run into places and get taken out by more patient players. I've noticed I'm going for dog tags much less, getting many more mine kills, aiming more and succeeding with it, and playing the objective even harder because when the other team has more objectives than you, WOW, does your team bleed tickets!
The bottlenecks are tricky, though, and some of the maps are almost impossible to sneak out of deployment once the other team has all the objectives (Terran Highway and Damavand Peak immediately come to mind). Still, it's growing on me.
It would be interesting to get a group together to play some BFBC2 for a night to see what it feels like after playing BF3 for a few weeks. I'm leading a retreat this weekend and I'll be out for Friday and Saturday night.

So chess, ogsoley, and KTown all had a birthday within the last few days. Didn't realize it was DVDTalk / Battlefield Birthday Week. Maybe I should drink an extra Diet Dr. Pepper and send each of you a code to get a set of dog tags or camo in celebration.

Simple question: If BF3 is so good, why aren't you guys ever on? Seems like when I left, there was always a few of you on BC2.

I have hardly been able to play anything over the last two weeks. Just really really busy at home. Had to give MW3 a spin on Wednesday since I didn't try it on Tuesday. Last night I had to play my NCAA match (evisceration always sucks) and then hopped on to MW3 to play with the old gang that is all back together in force. I'll definitely be playing more BF3, it just hasn't worked out for me timing-wise.

He won't like MW3. Self-fulfilling prophecy and whatnot.
I think it's worth the price of admission just for our private games. None of us are excellent players, except for the snot nose punk of course, and all the weapons are unlocked in private matches so there's no real need to play with randoms. Also, co-op should be a blast. It was a great time in MW2.

I like BF3 better than MW3 though.

I want to explore other weapons but I've found that the M4A1 with IRNV scope is just too fun to play with. What I need to do is see if there's another rifle I dig on that I can unlock that infra-red night-vision scope with because it's just too good.
Two of my favorite weapons from BFBC2 aren't available for all of the kits in BF3. The G3 is only for Assault and the M39, which is a lighter and more accurate M14 (my absolute favorite rifle), is only for Recon which is the class I don't see myself using a lot. Not knowing much about weapons, does anyone know if other all-kit rifles are close to the M14? I suppose most of them could be, if I change the firing to semi-automatic.
Had some success using the SAM rocket launchers on choppers the other night but not the jets. I'd get a missile lock and they'd launch counter flares every time. How many of those does each jet have, anyway? After a while, I switched back to RPGs because the tanks and personnel were just everywhere (still need to try out the javelin).
19K, I looked at your stats and saw almost all of your kills are with tanks. What's your secret to longevity in the tank? I ask because clearly you rock at it and as for me, I haven't met a tank yet I couldn't bust down in no time so how do you steer clear of Engineers like me?

re: Battlefield Talk
I don't think anybody pimped BF3 like I did (note that I started the thread for it). Can I just be legitimately disappointed without it being a personality thing???
I think I've given specific design choices that bother me as well.

re: Battlefield Talk
LOL...ignore my last two posts...somehow read MW3 as BF3. No chance of me hitting that shit. It's all the things I hate about BF3 with none of the stuff I like.
Think I'm gonna run the support class a bit...see if I like it better. The kind of gimped the revive thing anyway, though I'm not sure I can describe how.

You should rent it one Thursday night. Just hit Redbox. It'll be like $3. Our private games are so much different and more fun than the public garbage.

re: Battlefield Talk
I finally finished law school, passed the bar and am now out there pounding the pavement looking for a job and picking up contract work when I can. The last two weeks I've hardly been on at all-- and when I have either no one else is on or one of the newer members of our group is in a full game and I'm not quite ready to send out invites to pull people out of games when I'm not sure the squad we put together will even stay together when entering a map. How's that for a run-on sentence?
