re: Battlefield Talk
Starting to get a feel for it.
Played a bit with Slider...good times running around with him and monkeystomping some dudes.
My only problem right now is that I'm having a lot of trouble aiming compared to BC2...might just be the M16...see if I level up to something I like...hopefully with a red dot. Anyway, I seem to lose most head to head encounters.

re: Battlefield Talk
The guns are a ridiculously hard to aim this year. All the ones I have tried have a ton of kick back. The only way I'll use a long range weapon is if I'm laying prone so I can use the stand to keep steady. Normally I just run around with a handgun or C4, which is why my K/D sucks.

re: Battlefield Talk
I like BC2 better and it's not close.
It seems like half of the maps are indoor meat grinders, which don't play to the strengths of Battlefield. That shit should be left to CoD as it's what they do best. That's not a slam on CoD by the way...just wish Battlefield would compete on its own terms doing what it does best...big open areas with vehicular mayhem and classes...rather than trying to be half CoD.
It was nice to finally get a squad together and talk through strategy, but I was still missing BC2 quite a bit. This just isn't as fun.

I agree, in some ways. So far, and perhaps in the long-run, I prefer BFBC2. It's not that it's more fun; it's a different kind of fun. There's something about BF3 that simply seems more serious in tone that doesn't sit well with me. It also has so much more random action; it feels like many of my kills and deaths are just flukes. Finally, the voice chat cutting out and the squad set-up breaking is making my favorite reason to play, you guys, difficult to happen and that isn't helping. At least the latter two are likely to change as the game and players evolve.
Ultimately, I think I'll enjoy this one quite a bit as time goes on and I'll eat crow on posts like this. There have been some great moments and I don't want to discount those. And I know there's a learning curve here that I need to remind myself I also had to have with BFBC2. I think it was just so hyped up for me that I'm having difficulty getting over that (and I'm sorry but the Beta experience still sours me) and relax completely so I can just have fun 100%. It's growing on me. I remember thinking BFBC2 was so different when I first dived into it after two months of Warhawk, my first PS3 game, and I wasn't sure if I was going to be into it but well, the rest is history. My brother said he was reviewing something about the whole "Back to Karkand" map pack that made him think it was going to be much, much, much more like BFBC2 so that could be interesting.
Sorry, chess, I missed those invites. My wife was watching Hulu+ and I wasn't even in the room when you were playing. Also, are you on Battlelog? I can't find you.

re: Battlefield Talk
I feel too excited to critique on the bad aspects of BF3.
I'm switching back and forth from Assault and Support to keep my squad mates happy and to change my overall game experience. Otherwise it becomes repetition, to me anyway. As long as I can help the team and stick to objectives. Don't forget positive comments to your fellow squad mates, sounds silly, but hey.
And I AM excited for Karkand!!! I played BF2 for so long and am ready for a Frostbite2 revision. Check out the game trailers for positivity.

I'm going to try to switch kits more often based on the map. I almost always play Engineer, but with the Carl Gustav gone and nothing even remotely like it on BF3, I may be putting it away more often as my rocket launcher kill streaks appear to be behind me in my BFBC2 past. I've found Support is a great kit to work with in Operation Metro. Anybody else have kit/map pair-up recommendations?

Ok so I played a little bit and pretty much feel the same as most of you that it isn't as fun as BC2, but that may change over time.
I won't be on much though. My father just passed and I have to go up north and help my mother out for awhile. I don't think my son would appreciate me taking the PS3 with me as much as I'd like to to take my mind of things.

So sorry to hear that Vong. Take care of yourself and yourself and your family. We'll still be here complaining about how we prefer bc2 when you return.

My condolences as well.
In regards to BF3, I do enjoy many of the features. Some others bother me. I haven't been able to play enough to really feel comfortable with it all either. I hope they *fix* squads being broken up in matches. I can't imagine it would be that tough as it worked fine in BC2. Hopefully they don't feel it is a feature the way it currently doesn't work.

re: Battlefield Talk
Condolences Vong.
Guess I should provide some specifics on why I like BC2 better:
1. No indoor maps. They just turn into meat grinders and remind me very much of my experience with CoD. The market, the subway and the mountain tunnel are all terrible terrible maps, and they seem to show up in the rotation disproportionately compared to the better maps.
2. Building destruction was different...yes, buildings were cookie-cutter in BC2, but when one went down, it literally changed the dynamics of the battlefield. Destruction in BF3 appears to be almost entirely aesthetic.
3. The pace feels different. You have to be very very deliberate about moving around, which is good, but I think they went a little too far.
4. The menus and matchmaking are terrible.
5. Edit to add: Claymores
That said, I had a cool moment this morning...knifed 4 dudes in a row as I ran through their line from behind...whole thing took 6-8 seconds...cornered the last one in a little room and somehow knifed him from the front. Epic...and I got the melee pin.

Already 20 dogtags, and at least 2-3 multiples. I am a fucking ninja.

I could add claymores to the list above. Something tells me that claymore spam is going to be a thing in BF3.

I still think the medic fits my playstyle better...running from objective to objective, but I think I might ultimately like the support kit better.

re: Battlefield Talk
Anybody notice that when someone on your friends list is playing campaign it has 'Battlefield' then the name of the level and then the difficulty level? I thought that was kind of funny. Why put the difficulty level?

Thoughts and prayers for your family, DarthVong. I'm going to be a wreck when I lose my father so I guess my feelings come from a place of hoping you can show the kind of strength for yourself and others I'm not sure I'll be able to have myself, someday. Was it sudden?

Anyway, my father had a major heart attack on Oct 3rd which was the day after his 66th birthday. He was a retired police officer as well as a Vietnam veteran (Marines). When I was five he was shot 5 times at point blank range while responding to a domestic call and was given last rights then and pulled through. He has had numerous procedures since then due to scarring and other complications (losing a lung). So even though his health was always an issue he always seemed to tough it out being from the whole John Wayne culture of manning up and walking it off just to give a little background.
He developed pneumonia in his lung while in the hospital and was on a respirator for over a week. The doctors were getting ready to put a trachea tube and feeding tube into him when all of sudden his lung started working on his own and he woke up talking like nothing was wrong. They sent him to a nursing facility for rehab since he had been in a hospital bed for over 2 weeks to get his strength back.
Last night he sent my wife a message on facebook via his cell phone saying he was glad he got a chance to see us (we live out of state but went there last week when it looked like he may not make it). Then this morning while eating breakfast he asked the nurse for another piece of toast and when she came back he was gone. Doctor says it was either a blood clot or an aneurism. But he went quick with no pain so that's something.
Sorry for the long winded post. Didn't know how else to explain it.

Glad you did, though. Thank you for sharing. That's quite the story and yes, there's definitely something to be said for a quick, painless passing.

re: Battlefield Talk
Does this game even have destructible buildings? I've not seen one go down yet.
BC2 has at least one destructible building at 95% of the objectives, which made a big difference in the gameplay. Dice seems to have gone away from their greatest strength.
I don't get it.

And yes, tactical lights are obnoxious.
I'm not trying to be overly negative. The game looks terrific, and I know it's not exactly supposed to be a folllow-up to BC2, but it's hard not to compare. I'm strongly considering going back and waiting for, hopefully, BFBC3 to move on.

re: Battlefield Talk
I've seen a couple buildings come down, but it was in Rush mode. Never on Conquest. I would say the overall destruction is drastically less in this game compared to previous ones. Not sure what they were thinking on that one. Maybe they're trying too hard to appeal to the COD crowd. Still I think BF3 is great. Maybe they'll come out with a major patch that'll address some of the gripes.

I played BC2 at my brothers for a little bit (it's when I first met a some of you all) and only experienced the destruction mode just a bit. Thinking back on it I suppose destruction has really made FPS a lot more interesting? With what 19K said and my apparent advocacy for the Karkand map pack, I really do hope that a destruction patch will happen later on.
Darth Vong, I wish you the best for these next few days. And thanks for sharing a brief story about your dad. Epic Dad post is epic.
Also to Vong*
Star Wars is awesome and after a bit of nudging from fellow avid readers I'm finally into the New Jedi Order series and am into the Agents of Chaos duology. I'm assuming your name has to do with NJO? If so, excuse my geekiness overload that I love your name.

I think because of the map design they toned down the destructability. (Which is good and sucks at the same time) I thought some things were too easily destroyed in BFBC2 and yet now It is ridiculously hard to take a building down and some walls are non destructible (dumb). They may have taken it too farr in the other direction.
