I'll probably be online for a limited time each night for a few maps this week and I'm out of town this weekend. For those of you who've been playing with me this week, I'm trying to determine if my headset is starting to go on me. Obviously, I'm cutting out and people are cutting out on me, too. So is it Battlefield 3 or is it my headset? I tend to hear and be heard better in two-person squads and as soon as it gets up to three or four the problems become much more clear. Thoughts on this one? |
re: Battlefield Talk
^ It HAS to be EA. I've tried both the sony wireless headset and my wired turtle beach and the same problems with each.

re: Battlefield Talk
It is definitely EA. After their inability to fix the mic problem for three years in NHL I will readily blame them for anything mic-related.

re: Battlefield Talk
I thought so and I appreciate the confirmation, fellas.
It's a good thing, murray, I was able to convince my wife we "need" the keypad for our PS3 controllers to make Netflix and Hulu+ controls easier. It's what let me type you that long message about squad leaders marking objectives for points. I was reading about some of the unlocks coming up and it definitely looks like it favors squad play as we reach higher levels: 23 Squad Sprint 26 Squad Ammo 29 Squad Flak Jacket 31 Squad Explosives 33 Squad Suppression 35 Squad Suppression Resist 37 Squad Grenades I wonder if any of this is stackable, like Squad Sprint on top of personal Sprint or two Squad Sprints, etc. Probably not. I'll have a difficult time not using my personal Explosives since I rock the Engineer so much. Still, squad play is key and likely takes precedence. It will be interesting how we set squads up before we head into action once we reach these levels and unlocks. |

Probably won't be on tonight, Halloween festivities and then I have to move a bunch of stuff in prep for new carpet tomorrow. |
re: Battlefield Talk
Since it appears squads formed before jumping into a game are still getting split up, perhaps a blanket rule could help us out in getting the squads back together. If it's agreeable to the group, it may be worth putting with the friendly advice in Post #1, chess:
If you form a squad that gets separated when you get to the map, try to enter the lowest empty squad (usually Foxtrot, Golf, or Hotel). This way, we know how to find each other easier. What I can't stand so far, however, is the team balancing aspect that splits up squads to both teams once you enter the game. That's ridiculous. They should be able to find a server in which you can all be on the same team. Maybe the trick is to pick the mode you want, like Conquest, yet be open to any map rather than a specific one so you have a greater chance of all being together. |
re: Battlefield Talk
That is a ridiculous problem to have.
So tempted to play BFBC2 for a month while they sort some of this shit out. |
re: Battlefield Talk
Try BF3 out first chess - the issues that are happening now are nothing compared to the issues that plagued BFBC2 at launch and even after the first couple of patches. One of the biggest flaws in all the Battlefield games is the lobby system anyways. I think we are just being nitpicky. Especially since most DVDTalkers jumped on BFBC2 after one of the last patches they have no idea how bad BFBC2 was at one point.

re: Battlefield Talk
The squad stuff is only a minor annoyance. It's easily fixed in-game most of the time. Don't let that dissuade you. Almost all of my fears have been proven wrong with this game. The only thing that hasn't been proven wrong is that Metro is the worst BF map ever.

Good to hear Cruz/flip. It's waiting for me, so I'll certainly give it a go.
Should be on a little bit next week...sitting in Kyrgyzstan. |
re: Battlefield Talk
I don't know if I stumbled on a spawn beacon or simply the place where the enemy team spawned on Delta in the Kharg Island Conquest map, but I killed an enemy and then another one spawned right there so I killed him, too. While I'm reloading, another one spawned. Killed him, then another and another and another and so on. I stayed until I ran out of ammo.
If it turns out I was camping where they spawn, then that's a bummer and I'd try to avoid that because spawn camping isn't my favorite thing in the world, though certainly there should be more than one spawn point at any given objective. However, if they kept choosing to spawn on their beacon over and over when their whole squad is getting wiped out over and over, that's their choice... |

I'm honestly not thinking of anyone here in particular, especially since you guys actually listen to me when I offer play advice (and my mic isn't cutting out), but I'm going insane when I'm in a squad with randoms or friends and the squad leader doesn't mark objectives. First, marking the objective gives the squad an indicator of where we could (should) be working together and without it there's not much direction - especially when a squad isn't using their mics (or they keep cutting out). No mics? No marked objectives? All I have to rely on are the green arrows on my map to show me where they are and sometimes when I get there, they're just camping out in sniper land and not working as a team, anyway. Second, they're losing out on so many points where they don't even have to do anything except hit Select once. We earn points for them and they just don't take advantage of it. As much as I try to work as a team, this is the thing that drives me bananas because in BFBC2 I marked objectives CONSTANTLY. Those are points I enjoyed earning for me and my squad over and over; the instant someone taught me how to do that in that first month of play, I never, ever stopped. Sure, it's only ten points here, ten points there... until you rack up tons of points from Squad Member Pins, 200 points apiece. I'll say it: if you ever worked closely with me in a squad in BFBC2 and ended up with more than one Squad Member Pin, it's probably because I kept marking our objectives. It appears the way to become squad leader is to be the first person in the squad and for me, that's only been around half the time. When I'm not the leader, I'm fine with it, but if the leader isn't leading, I'm going ballistic inside because there are points I used to earn for the squad all the time and now I have no ability to do so and the person who does have the ability doesn't care. The only thing worse? When the original squad leader leaves and for some reason, maybe a bug, no one becomes the new squad leader. I've been the top person in my squad in order and/or score and not been the leader because I didn't start the squad. When that happens... I die a little bit. Inside. In my little soul. [/rant] |
re: Battlefield Talk
...I should not have as strong of feelings on the matter as I do. It's. Just. A game.

re: Battlefield Talk
Free points are free points. I want 'em too.
|
re: Battlefield Talk
It bothers me too. I've joined multiple times where there were 3 or 4 of us and no one was designated as squad leader, or, when the squad leader either didn't know about marking objectives or was too lazy to do so. I've educated several players on how to mark objectives at this point as well. All we can do is try to educate.

How do you mark the bad guys? I tried hitting select but nothing happen. Do you have to be recon class to do it or can any class do it?
Thanks. |

My biggest gripe is playing with people that are assault or support who don't drop ammo or med kits. Especially when you're standing right next to them. Or if you join a random squad and all 3 other squad members go off in 3 different directions (which happens a LOT!!!!). And speaking of people in different places, can you only hear your squad members mics? I swear I hear people talking about shit that isn't anywhere near me. Of course that might be the squad members being in all different places too. There's no little indicator showing who's talking anymore. |
re: Battlefield Talk
That talking indicator seems to come and go. The first week I saw it a lot and this week I don't think I saw it at all.
There's a setting on the Squad and Team menu for you to swap your voice chat between Squad, Team, or None. Maybe you had it set on Team? Sometimes I have it on Squad and I can still hear my PSN friends who are on the team, which I like and hope isn't just a glitch. My brother is new to the game so I've been asking him to get into the habit of instantly dropping a med pack or ammo pack when he spawns on someone if there's no immediate threat. Never know who needs it right then and there. Just a reminder that I think if four of us try to enter a game together and it splits up the squad somehow to find a squad and click on the lowest open squad on the list (foxtrot | golf | hotel). It seems to work well, though sometimes the "find a squad" mechanic puts me in as the fourth person in Alpha or something. I have to wonder what level we'd all be by now if we didn't have to take the first three minutes of a map setting up the squad because the game can't figure it out. :) I'm out of town this weekend. Might be back on Sunday or Monday. Ogs and Yaw, overtake my rank in my absence (and take out Meatpants, too!). And someone get R2 in the game! |
