Re: Return of the Weekly Rotating Games Night (PS3)
It was a cool game, but as massive as the world was, there were a pretty limited number of "instances" that a coop group could do. Seemed like it got pretty repetitive, and I didn't play nearly as long as you guys did.
Still have the game though.

The multiplayer vs matches were lots of douchey fun though. So waht I am hearing is a serious desire for some RDR, eh?

Re: Return of the Weekly Rotating Games Night (PS3)
I played some RDR the other day. Definitely gonna need some help in the multiplayer. Took me over an hour to clear 1 gang hideout. I suck. For some reason it's not letting me keep any weapons I earn in the multiplayer. I got up to level 11 but every time I died, I only started off with a shitty pistol, knife and repeater. Am I missing something? How do you keep your weapons? I cleared the Pike's Basin hideout and after the huge XP bonus it said I earned 3 weapons as a reward... when I died they were no longer available. The other players in the lobby are killing me from across the map with much better weapons.

Also, if you're going for speed clearing a hideout, best ones to do are Solomon's Folly and Twin Rocks. All the enemies are close together. If you go into a hideout where they are more spread out, like Pike's Basin, you will earn more XP, but it will take you a while to do it by yourself. Pike's Basin is great with a big group though, as you can split up and clear it quicker.

I looked on that screen. There are only 3 options: Title, Character, and Mount. I couldn't find a weapon selection anywhere. I figured they would just show up in the "weapon wheel" when you press L1. Maybe my game is buggy and they'll be there the next time I start it up.

Looks I'm gonna need to set aside a full day if I plan on doing it solo.

Re: Return of the Weekly Rotating Games Night (PS3)
So I did a mish mash of multiplayer games the other night just to see how active the lobbies were.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - always has had an odd matchmaking system but I found FFA matches pretty easily. got a few kills and died a bit more.
Red Faction: Guerilla - 15 minutes of fail. would get the required 5 for a match and then somebody would leave the lobby. couldn't get any pub matches started at all
BioShock 2 - really active community. really easy to find games. Really easy to get your ass handed to you. Half the people are noobs, half are level 50 one man wrecking crews. still a fun and interesting game.
Battlefield 1943 - pretty easy to find a match but once again was rolled over by the higher experienced players.
Medal of Honor - According to the stattracker there were over 1000 people online. easy to find a match and was completely steamrolled by experienced players. This was the most brutal of the multiplayer games. I didn't get a single kill in two matches.

1943 is online only so I would imagine there will always be a decent number of people playing. The good thing is people that have been playing forever don't have any real advantage over new players, other than being familiar with the maps, since there really isn't anything to "unlock".

I don't what that is but I'm in. Just started playing RDR online and I'm having a good time with it. Kicking myself for not trying it sooner... I've only had it since launch day.
The bonus XP this week definitely helps too. Made it level 20 in 2 days.

Re: Return of the Weekly Rotating Games Night (PS3)
So I loaded up Burnout Paradise just to make sure I still had the required updates on my hard drive...good to go. I was also cooking at the same time and paused the game, and Traci was curious enough that she said "Can I play?"

She's in there playing it right now and giggling periodically.
Anyway, 2 reminders.
1. I'll send invites when I see folks pop into the game...and the game will tell me when friends come in...best real-time invite system of any game ever. Just go into the game and hit right on the d-pad.
2. Remember that the game can make use of the music files on your PS3...a rare trait shared only by Warhawk in my massive game collection.
In for RDR, but fair warning that I haven't played it as much as I should have...maybe help R2 get that trophy.

Re: Return of the Weekly Rotating Games Night (PS3)
Great turnout tonight. At one point we had a full 8 in the game and 2 waiting to get in. Just did some challenges and, as always, wrapped up in the quarry douching it up.
Folks who came out to play:
Friz
Ogs
Spatula can't jump for shit
R2
Slider
Nic
Vong
Meat
Cactus
Cruz
Hope you guys had a good time. I had a blast!

That was my first time actually playing Burnout and it was a blast! Of course I could have done without my son and nephew cackling next to me though. LOL

Re: Return of the Weekly Rotating Games Night (PS3)
Hey, it's my first time!
I had a lot of fun. It was my first night playing Burnout and my first racing game since Mario Kart 64 (and before that, Pole Position). Dug some of the soundtrack (Alice in Chains, Faith No More) and will likely load up some MP3s on my PS3 for the first time. I admit I succumbed to some regressive pull with the kids over Vong's microphone though it was nice to have a little more silliness from them to add energy to the mic chatter. Gotta play around to feel out the different kinds of cars and have to get more familiar with where to find junkyards, etc.
I'll be honest and I say I was getting frustrated in the Quarry. I wasn't doing well with the jumping all night* and I probably should have advocated for myself during the quarry chute jump and asked you all to please get off of it instead of taking me down over and over while I was trying to get my last two jumps for fifteen minutes - an eternity at the end of a long day. I'll be sure to do that in the future instead of letting my compounded frustration fester in silence.
My copy of Medal of Honor arrived on Friday, too ($11.04 brand-new shipped from Amazon with DLC, if you're interested), and I met up with my brother (Octo) for a few multiplayer rounds. It was his first PS3 game so he was showing me the ropes pretty well. It plays a lot like a Battlefield game on hardcore mode, reminding me of both BFBC2 and BF3 hardcore. There's no spotting, no killcam, and weapons are really powerful; if you get hit you're going to be lucky to get out of the line of fire before you go down pretty quick.
* I think my issue with the jumps is I have difficulty knowing how much road I need to get up enough speed to make them. It feels like the physics of this game are likely more realistic than I'm used to with video game vehicles and I'm not using enough road or drifting to maintain speed or both. Will hopefully get the hang of it.

Re: Return of the Weekly Rotating Games Night (PS3)
The chaos of 8 guys trying to do the same thing at the same time is supposed to be part of the fun, but I could see it being frustrating if you haven't had a chance to get a feel for the driving.
I wouldn't call the physics in BP realistic...definitely more arcade than sim...but BP has the best drift mechanic of any driving* game I've ever played...super easy to initiate and the counter-steer is super balanced (depending on the car). It also does a great job giving you a sense of speed.
* I don't really consider BP a racing game. It has some of that in it, but I think it's more fun to do objectives and goof around.

I had fun too last night, and I actually picked up 5 trophies in the midst of all that mayhem. Thanks for accomodating my request to go back to the ballpark after we had 8, even though we had just been there chess.
I also picked up RDR back up used last week for 7.99, so if pepole are interested in some old west mayhem for next week, I'm down.

Is there a way to mix their and my soundtracks or is it one or the other?

Yeah, but I couldn't concentrate because some kids at your place were making fun of my name and I had to leave every five minutes to cry. I don't know how Meatpants got through it!
