Re: Dead Island
How and why do people finish games so quickly? It came out less than a week ago. I guess I can understand if you rented it, you want to finish quick, but are you guys playing 12 hours at a time or something?

Whoa! I barely have 6 hours in a row free enough to sleep, much less to play a video game.
Why? Because they are having fun?

Re: Dead Island
1. I'm loving this game so far except for how quickly weapons get damaged.
2. NO ONE can drink that many energy drinks in a day. NO ONE.
3. The opening cinematic sequence is lame.
4. I'm taking my time with this by doing as many side quests as I can. As for "main quest" stuff, I'm at the Lifeguard Tower, but haven't done anything for Mike or Dominic.
5. That said... Where's Maggie??? I don't remember that side quest getting added, but when I select it, there's no indication of where I need to go or what I need to do.
6. I finished Fallout: New Vegas very quickly (without doing many side quests), but went back to do those and enjoyed the hell out of it. Is there a point in Dead Island like F3 and F:NV that you could call a "point of no return?"

Re: Dead Island
I played this for a few hours over the weekend on a Redbox rental, and I'm glad I did (360 version). The game does have a small learning curve, but once you figure out how it works and what it's trying to do it's a lot of fun. I will likely be picking this up in the future when the price goes down and there's less games looming on the radar. Hopefully by then some of the bugs I've encountered will be fixed.

It takes some getting used to, but as UncleGramps indicated it gives a lot of control.
I never tried the digital controls.

Re: Dead Island
With the digital controls you only push the right trigger and that's it.
I will try the analog controls again later to see if it makes any difference. I'm really early in the game, so I can still try a few things.

I just don't get this logic...its not like these people are playing it any faster...this is not like a person eating a meal in 1 minute and not enjoying it...if someone spends 40 hours in 1 week playing a game...or 40 hours spread over 1 month...both people can enjoy the game equally...

Well, I did a little bit of reading, just to get an idea of where to find her...
I'm going to try the analog combat tonight. It sounds kind of difficult, though.

Re: Dead Island
I started off doing side missions, but now I'm sticking to the main story. It appears that there are a lot of side quests that you simply can't do yet, so I'm going to let them fall where they may as I go with the main story. After I finish the game, I'll be starting another character anyhow, so plenty of time to worry about the side quests then.

Re: Dead Island
I bought the game on 360, but also won a PS3 copy. I'll probably just trade that in when it shows up in the mail.

On the 360, my biggest complaint is when I die and respawn, I'm usually in a very different spot than I was before. It can be a little frustrating, but it's not horrible. Definitely not as bad as not being able to save at all.

Meanwhile you have a game you spent $60 sitting on your shelf collecting dust. Or worse yet, you trade it in for $20 at Gamestop, and move onto the next game you'll finish in three days.
As far as your eating comparision.....A person that flies through a game can't digest it as well as a person that takes their time. It's like a big foot long sandwich. Do you eat it all now, or save the other half and enjoy it later? Eating it all now, you enjoy it, but you're full, possibly stuffed. Eating the other half later you are happy you have something to come back to.
Make sense?

Re: Dead Island
That's the great thing about gaming. One person can spend 40 hours in 1 week to complete a game and feel completely satisfied. Another person can get it done in 8 hours and feel the same satisfaction. Yet another person can spread 40 hours of gameplay over a month and feel the same satisfaction as the other gamers. And another person can spend 80 hours finding all the hidden things and feeling proud that they got every single possible achievement. Still, each person feels the same level of satisfaction because they got exactly what they wanted out of the game.
Yeah, I'm with foxdvd on this one.

Re: Dead Island
It's funny how this game works...two of my friends and I got the game on release day. My one friend is flying through the game, level 36 and over 600 achievement points, my other buddy is level 28 with 400 points, and I'm a 26 with 325 points. I have only 46 quests, while my friends have both snagged the 75 quests achievement. Everyone approaches the game differently. I want to finish the main mission Monday because of Gears 3, so I'm pacing myself. My one buddy plays through games like a buzz saw, while my other buddy isn't getting a new game until Batman, and he plans on playing through as all 4 characters. It's all what you want out of your $60. After Gears' release, I will still play DI, but it won't be like it is now, and I may wait until next spring to play through as all 4 characters and try for a 1k/1k score. As I stated before, this is a perfect game for the drought season, so I will probably play it semi-quick now, then really delve in 6 months or so...along with Skyrim

Re: Dead Island
That's not true at all. People that finish it fast tend to rush and not find out hidden things or whatnot. Sure, you can go back a second time to get them, but most people never do that until much later.
Meanwhile you have a game you spent $60 sitting on your shelf collecting dust. Or worse yet, you trade it in for $20 at Gamestop, and move onto the next game you'll finish in three days.

I finished it in 4 days and didn't do a grand total of 5 quests. I never saw more, and when i heard someone yelling as I drove by I always stopped and helped. I did a ton of quests so the logic that someone who finishes it quickly skips stuff is a bit flawed.

Re: Dead Island
SomethingMore had a good point. If I spend 25 hours on this game but someone else spends 40 or more, they could technically say the same about me.
Anyhow, I guess I just cringe when I see people (not here mind you) on forums say they just finished the game and it just came out a day ago.
Then again, my son takes up alot of my free time, so I don't have time to burn through games anymore

Re: Dead Island
no...
If I play a game...and I spend 40 total hours playing it....and you play a game...and you play 40 total hours playing it...how did you experience more than me? I don't care if my 40 hours is spread out over 7 days and yours over 14 days...we both spend the same amount of time enjoying it...and I don't need to step back and think about my experience to enjoy it...
I have played a lot of games that I played non stop and finished quickly..and I have played a lot of games that took a month to finish...I don't rush...I just play large chunks at a time...
If I finished Dead Island and only had 10 hours in it your logic makes sense...if anything I over explore games like this though...I almost always get most collectibles without a guide..
