No problem. I like a challenge so I turn mine up when the action gets too easy.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

Getting more freezing. Four in the last two days. Three at a loading screen. So I cleared the cache and that worked for a few hours til it froze mid action again.

Always have to turn off the system from the main power button. So frustrating.

I wonder if it has to do with all the saves I do from pick pocketing and such. But I always delete saves when I get more than say five or six.

I've never had a game freeze as much as this one. Even Fallout New Vegas was less buggy.

Oh and it's the on demand game I bought when it was on sale so I know it's not a disc problem.

I had the occasional freeze in Skyrim, but nothing like you describe. Not sure what else to suggest at this point.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

Same here. I have about 120 hours logged into the game (360 version, installed). I had around one freeze per 10 hours of gameplay during my first 80 or so hours. But in the last 40 hours, which includes Dawnguard and Dragonborn, I've had zero freezes.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I save a lot. Like I said I delete them but if you count the combined two hundred hours of time I've played since the game came out and the recent purchase and restart, I have saved over 900 times. Mind you, those include auto saves but most are manual.

Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

My save number was over 1400 last time I played.

It's getting to the point where I don't know if it'll load or freeze during the loading process. I can't believe it's doing the same crap that caused me to stop playing the first time.

I cleared both caches again and it didn't freeze for maybe three hours. I guess I should be happy.

Mine froze the Xbox like you describe once every time I played (I typically played a few hours at a time). I usually decided that's a good time to do something else. I suspect it has something to do with the size of the save--at this point they're 17 MB each.

As far as I can determine, autosaving when loading is often a "lethal" combination. If you feel like testing out that theory, turn off autosaves and see how it goes.

Also consider that sometimes autosaving is simply so slow that it appears the game has froze permanently, but if you wait 1-2 minutes control returns to you.

When I started Dragonborn I went through and deleted about 200 past saves and now limit it to about 20. The only perceptible effect is that it speeds up the Save and Load screens significantly, since they apparently load the entire list at once.

Yeah, while I've saved my game a few hundred times, I only keep about 20 saves.

I really don't understand the disparity between like systems and performance for Skyrim. I've taken two characters through 60 levels on the 360, and I've only had one or two complete lockups and maybe double as many infinite-loading screens.

I turned off all auto saving except the ones when you enter a new location, so maybe that will help. But it doesn't help the fact I still get random freezes in the open game world. Those freezes never occur in dungeons, just always outside.

I had one earlier today after playing for about 45 minutes doing house building stuff. I was headed to a quest location and it just froze right in the middle of me running. Right out of the blue. No slowdowns, not any enemies around or particles to slow down the frame rate. Just freeze and have to power down completely.

One time the freeze happened and my Xbox wouldn't turn off. I had to hit the power button like seven times before it went off.

Oh and I do delete saves, keeping usually around 5-7. I never let the list get above 20-30 before I go and clean it. I overwrite a lot maybe that has something to do with it?

My loading screens are never long except for the first one when loading the game for the first time after not playing awhile. It takes like 30-45 seconds sometimes.

I just started Dragonborn at level 55. Love the new area and items, and felt nostalgic when a tune from Morrowind started playing.

Definitely more fun than Dawnguard and I haven't even done a quest yet, just exploring everything.

Nickdawgy - how's your thoughts about Dragonborn? Is it so good as Skyrim itself? I love this game, but i know that often DLCs are not as good as they should be. I don't want to buy Dragonborn and be disappointed. I'm assuming you've played some kind of beta? Because i've seen it avaiable to buy only as a preorder.

It's been available on Xbox since early December. Apparently the developers at Bethesda forgot how to program for anything else.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

So it looks like Dragonborn is out for the PS3. I'm interested in playing it but I sold my copy a while back. Any thoughts on if it's worth picking it up again (looks like it's $40 at many stores now)? I was a huge fan of Oblivion and Shivering Isles and like regular Skyrim but preferred Oblivion/SI. Interested in hearing any thoughts.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I enjoyed Dragonborn a lot. In fact, I have to go back and finish it. I think I spent the first 10 hours just doing side quests and exploring.

Definitely worth it, IMO.

Dragonborn was great but I'm pretty hungry for the next DLC.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I wrote a silly post a month ago about how Skyrim helped me through a tough time. I didn't expect to receive such a touching response from Bethesda.

On February 21st, 2012, my sister passed away after a nine-year battle with cancer.

I didn't handle it particularly well. I was already dealing with a deep-rooted depression, and the loss left me feeling more isolated and alone than I had ever felt before. I sought whichever outlets I could to help clear my mind from the flurry of thoughts and emotions. Skyrim was one such outlet, and its escapism really did help me handle the grieving process.

I never really realized how helpful it was until recently, and so I wrote a very geeky, very silly and very brief story explaining how I felt upon the realization.

The original reddit post can be found here: http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comme...e_and_skyrims/

Well, Matt Grandstaff of Bethesda Softworks saw the story, and asked me for my mailing address. I obliged, not entirely sure what I was getting into but I was excited at an impending kind gesture.

Yesterday was the anniversary of my sister's passing. I spent the day at my parents' house for a memorial with a few select friends and family members. When I got back home, a package was waiting for me by my door. Here's what arrived:

The parcel
Spoiler:

What it contained
Spoiler:

Behind the cover
Spoiler:

The art book (I love it!)
Spoiler:

A letter I almost missed
Spoiler:

And there it is. I absolutely was floored, and a day I thought would be absolutely agonizing ended with an incredibly heart-warming and unexpected moment of absolute kindness.

Bethesda is a great team of wonderful people, and I have the proof.

Edit: If I knew this was going to make it to sites like Kotaku and IGN, I'd have probably made an effort to fix up the writing a bit! Thanks to everyone for your kindness and support, you're all awesome!

That's awesome. At first I thought that they made a book from his screen shots, but it's still cool that they got everyone to sign it.
