Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
I downloaded Hearthfire because it was cheap and sounded interesting. I'm in the minority but I'd rather have something that adds new activities than just another dungeon mission.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
After recently having my apartment broken into and my PS3 and all my games stolen i have tried looking on the bright side. For me that will be starting again and being able to replace a lot of the games (Super Street fighter 4 replaced with Arcade Edition, MvsC3 replaced with Ultimate Edition, Arkham Asylum replaced with GOTY edition, Red Dead Redemption replaced with GOTY edition.....the list goes on). So i am going to wait for Skyrim to get a GOTY edition. I will be picking up a 360 for that though, as it seems the PS3 is being left in the dust with regards to expansions.
I have a ways to go before i get back to where i was.....missing gaming in the mean time. I had well over 200 hours into Skyrim, and the same went for at least a half dozen other games. My girlfriend is gonna be pissed when i get a system again.

Well i don't have a fast internet connection, so digital is not gonna work for me. And pretty sure that i am not alone in this matter. I have heard bad reports of long download times for some digital games even on good connections. Plus, call me old fashioned, but i like to have the disc and box. Also, for a digital copy a lower price range would be nice as they don't have to supply packaging.

that looks like a cool expansion finally a whole new land area. Too bad jack shit hasn't hit the PS3 yet. Not regretting selling my copy when I did. If any of this ever comes out for the PS3 I can always buy it cheaper later.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
bought it last week during the sale
I'm making a lot more use of bows, especially sneak attacks with bows, than I did in oblivion
I accepted the gift from the Companions and in the mission for them to steal the plans from the group that is their enemy I think all but 2-3 kills were sneak attacks with a bow, most of which were one shot kills
I did find a flaw in the AI though. The main bad guy in that dungeon took a few hits to kill. I was able to get a sneak attack, move behind some barrels, wait a minute and he'd go back to being oblivious and I could get another sneak attack. I did this over and over.
It's good that they don't immediately know where you are and come running, but they also shouldn't completely lose their alertness level and go back to being clueless of their surroundings
that said, I'll be a hypocrite and continue exploiting it where ever I can
I hate that they added unkillable annoying kids. Kids fine, unkillable fine, but unkillable plus annoying is not fine

The kids are annoying, but if you get the Hearthfire DLC you can adopt up to two and they become (slightly) useful!
By the way, I recommend getting that DLC earlier rather than later if building your own house(s) with lots of available tools and storage is something that interests you at all.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
I was wondering about this. I had the PS3 version on day of release and within a few months had over 200 hours put into it. By that stage the lag had truly set in and it was practically unplayable. Then my PS3 got stolen and since then i have been waiting to pick up a 360 as soon as this GOTY or Ultimate edition gets released. I guess as the 3rd DLC is released Dec. 4th it will still be a while until the Ultimate edition. But i will get that day of release and start all over again.

The latest DLC is out for Xbox. Cannot recommend it enough, it's a very large area with tons of new quests, enemies, and items. The tone is just right too. Will very likely go down as one of the best DLCs ever from Bethesda.

Should the main game quest be completed prior to taking on Dragonborn? (It's the only thing I've left to do, holding off, because I don't want the game to end) I'm sure it could work either way, but sometimes it's better to finish a DLC before the main game.

It doesn't matter. You have to be at a certain point in the main quest to start Dragonborn, but it's early on. That's the only thing that has a bearing on it in either direction.
If you don't want the game to end, I'd say this is the DLC for you. There's easily 40+ hours of new content if you're the type of player to do everything and explore everywhere.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011
Just like with the main game, I suppose it depends. If you rush through the main quest and call it quits, you could be done in 5 hours. If you're thorough, there are many things to do: at least 30 new quests and 50+ locations.

I love this new DLC. There were a couple glitches I found work arounds and everything has been smooth since. The best thing about it is unlike Fallout, you can always go back to Skyrim in the middle of it.

Currently taking my near-60 level Wood Elf thief/assassin/archer through Dragonborn, and, man, it's a freakin' bargain at $20. Plenty of new content under the surface, a great explorable space, interesting missions with some decent moral grayness, unique Morrowind-throwback art style ... and the atmosphere of the Black Book locations (which sorta fill the void left by no Oblivion gates) is pretty exquisite. I'd likely still be satisfied had I paid $30 for it; it's as if they actively tried to make up for Dawnguard being overpriced.
