Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
We couldn't even get Pinball FX2 tables from 360=>One without complaining.
Even Dance Central Spotlight needs its DLC ported to the One. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
It's silly to assume "compatibility" means "licensing" when you're talking about computer software.
They have a word for licensing. It's spelled differently than "compatibility". |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
So your argument is that last-gen DLC songs will be technically compatible but unlicensed/unusable? I don't follow your logic.
Maybe Harmonix could've worded that differently, but it's obvious what they intended. They chose the wording that would be most "friendly" to essentially every single person participating in the poll. "Compatible" is shorthand for "I have this thing already, and I can use it here too". |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Well, yeah, that's a good point. You need both for it to matter.
I just hope they were smart with their original licensing agreements so that all DLC applies to all iterations of the platform the way they did with Dance Central. It would suck to lose the disc songs, but much less than the DLC that I chose to purchase. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
But I guess what I'm trying to say is that just because you bought Freebird for the 360 and Freebird is made compatible with the One, it doesn't mean your purchase will apply.
"Compatibility of existing DLC". They could be talking about having the existing DLC library be available on the new consoles, not necessarily your purchases. It doesn't mention anything about "you". |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
A new-gen Rock Band would be cool, but rock games are dead. Between Harmonix & Activision they have beat that horse to death. I can't see a new game being more than a niche title at this point.
I mean it could be cool, but at this point we know what artists and genres Harmonix is able to corral so to think they'll magically get some artists we always wanted to draw us back in seems unlikely. |

And even if older instruments are compatible, the longer they wait, the more they end up in landfills instead of closets or livingrooms. And the ones people still have after 5 years unused will be covered in leaked battery acid. |

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
If they don't make existing instruments compatible, they can sell new ones via mail order and places like Amazon. It'll never be what it was, but you get enough people buying a new instrument, a new piece of software and willing to spend $2 a pop on DLC and you can make a little bit of money.

Link here. “3 years after we’ve launched Rock Band 3 as a retail title and the quote/unquote ‘music games are dead’ hyperbole, there are literally hundreds of thousands of unique people still playing the game monthly,” Nick Chester, Harmonix PR & Communication Lead, tells me in a voice dripping with enthusiasm. “And we haven’t even released any DLC in forever. There’s a hardcore base of players still actively interested in this game.” |

I'm hoping the song titles were not chosen at random.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Hey gang,
We have a relicensing update. The following songs will be removed from the store on 5/12. Silversun Pickups - "Panic Switch" Silversun Pickups - "Sort Of" This content is expected to come down from Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the Nintendo Wii on May 12th. The usual caveat about timing applies: we don't control when 1st party updates their stores, so you may see content come down a little earlier or a little later, so if you're looking to pick up this stuff then you're probably better off not waiting until the last minute. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Since I don't have a guitar, I bought the only Rock Band you use the controller on, Rock Band Blitz. Except for the occasional not being able to connect to Rock Band Central, I'm enjoying the game.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Idk if anyone is still following the guys at C3, but they just dropped a Journey 8 pack that is total awesomeness.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
FYI, C3 is shutting down weekly releases on 10/2 just before RB4 launches. Get what you want while you can. You never know when they'll just shut the whole thing down permanently.
It’s often hard to tell an ending from a beginning. Back in 2013, Harmonix announced that April 2 would be the end. Their tradition of weekly DLC, which had lasted for almost five and a half years, was done. “American Pie” was a fitting gravestone, and Harmonix got to focus on other projects. But many of us had devotedly followed these releases, junkies suddenly deprived of their high. And of those devotees, some of us knew how to make custom songs work, and some of us knew how to author those songs, and a cool idea was born. “One more pack,” we said. We planned out the Rapture, originally a one-and-done pack of community customs. And more than two years after that one-time release, here we are, with well over a thousand new songs for you — the other devotees, just like us — to play. Now, Harmonix has another big day on the horizon. We’ve kept the candle burning, but Rock Band 4 hits shelves on October 6, and that beginning is also an ending. C3’s final release will be October 2, 2015. It’s been a wild ride, and all of us on the C3 admin and author teams will have plenty to say about it. Luckily for you, it’s still five weeks and change away, and C3 never lets a big milestone pass unrecognized. Our final weeks are no exception. Please look forward to The End of Days, a four-week farewell salute to our players and Rock Band 3! The End of Days Week 1 (September 11): I Can’t Believe It’s Not Guitar Hero C02 A big batch of GH ports! 10+ multitrack hits from the GH series. Week 2 (September 18): C3’s All-Star Farewell One song each from every C3 author we could scrounge up, which also means 10 or more tracks. Week 3 (September 25): ??? Wait and see! Are you ready for more than 20 new songs? (OK, good, because that’s how many there are.) Week 4 (October 2): The End What songs? How many songs? It’s a secret to everybody. Astute observers will notice that there’s still two weeks before The End of Days gets started. They’re not officially part of the event, but they are crazy good releases regardless. Weekly releases might be ending, but the C3 community isn’t going anywhere, and our forums will stay open indefinitely. We’d also like to make it easier for people to find and share their own non-C3 customs, and we have some stuff cooking in that area that might be ready before October. (As a reminder, C3 will never allow customs of any official, purchasable Rock Band song, including Rock Band 4 tracks. Especially those.) We’ll have more posts from me, the other admins, and our authors as we draw closer to the end of all things. For now, though, just kick back. We’ll see you, as usual, on Friday. -pksage |
