Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I would love a reboot on the PS4 / One.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I just wish they would go ahead and mark down all of the DLC to a buck or lower for good. There are still a lot of songs I would like to get but 2 bucks a pop seems way too much at this point. I still haven't bought the Billy Joel packs as they have never gone on sale (that I can remember).

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
No one is going to re-buy all those songs over again on new consoles - and that's assuming people still want to play these games.
|
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
But we would pay a fee to transfer the licenses. You're getting ahead of yourself anyway. They know the problem of transitioning a library, if they're going to create another version of the game, they'll do something to have your purchases follow you, at least on the same console manufacturer.

The songs aren't the biggest issue though. The instruments are. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
The eternal question, at long last answered, from Alex Rigopulous' AMA:
This is a serious question and not a joke. What happened with Muse? It doesn't seem that hard to get their music in every other game, so just what happened? The integrity of this ama depends on whether you're willing to answer this. Hey yakityyakblah, we requested a ton of their music, repeatedly, and for whatever reason (not well understood...), we just couldn't get it cleared. Believe me, it bummed us out as much as it did our/their fans! A great many people hold the view that the death of the peripheral-based music game genre was entirely the fault of Activision: who bled the Guitar Hero series bone dry with, at one point, FIVE GH releases in a single twelve month period. Do you agree with this opinion? And did you play any of those games? If so, what did you think of them? I think there's probably some truth to the notion that Activision "over-published" Guitar Hero. But I wouldn't agree that the decline of the genre was "entirely the fault of Activision". Reality is always more complicated than this. For example, it didn't help that GH and RB were the most expensive video games on the market during a brutal recession. I also don't think that either GH or RB delivered enough (or the right kind of) evolution of the experience in the years that followed the initial releases--something we hope to address at some point in the next outing. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
That's a rather, uh, diplomatic(?) response to Activision running Guitar Hero into the ground. I know they are the easy target but Harmonix shares some of the blame. 3 core games, LEGO, Beatles, AC/DC, Green Day, Country discs, Rock discs, etc. Sure to most of us they were just exportable titles but to the average person perusing store shelves, it's a lot of damn music games on shelves between RB and GH.

Official Harmonix survey on the future of Rock Band. Looks like everything you could think of is being considered: new DLC, legacy DLC sales, next-gen instruments and new titles for current- and last-gen consoles. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Kind of a crappy survey. I wish you could write-in some comments.
My wishlist, tweaked a bit from before is: - a new game for XO and PS4 (and Wii U I guess) - new instruments for the new systems. Sturdier. Shinier. - Only guitar comes with the new game; all other instruments added a la carte (not likely to happen). - OLD DLC that is tied to your XBL/PSN account migrated to the new system with the same account - a fire sale on all last-gen DLC. Every track released on 360/PS3 for $100, migrated to the new system with the same account. - a single title that gets updated for as long as reasonably possible. Keep people hooked with DLC, and just keep patching the game itself for new features/fixes/arenas/bars/stadiums/etc. Far-fetched, but also: - Somehow tie new DLC (or old DLC) to a Harmonix account instead of your XBL/PSN account, so if you switch platforms, you get to keep your content. I think this would be nearly impossible for them to implement since it wasn't built into the previous games, but they could do it with the new systems at the very least... |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Your final idea is probably the only way I'd be in and they'd have to figure out a way to see waht you bought last Gen to migrate it, no matter the console.
|
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Yeah, that's why I highly doubt they'd be able to do it. They'd have to patch the 360/PS3 games specifically to force you to sign in with a new Harmonix account or something, which would then scan your purchased tracks and transfer them to your next-gen console. It's possible, sure, but sounds like a lot of work for Harmonix. GTA V had all that built in (for the multiplayer mode), so when it comes out on XO/PS4, you can pick up right where you were before.
I'll take back my suggestion for a $100 fire sale of old tracks. What I'd actually go for, personally, is a $5/month or $50/year subscription, where you get access to EVERY DLC track released in the past/present/future, as long as you keep your sub. That would be kind of awesome, too, and it would keep frequent players subscribed. Make it the W.O.W. of music games. ;) |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
All I've ever wanted is a Rock Band hub that they update with new challenges, playlists, achievements and other stuff like that. Just let me play all my songs and give me new ways to mix them up.

If you bought it on release then all you should have to do is delete title update 5 in the Rock Band data on the Xbox. My Xbox for Rock Band has become an offline Xbox due to the fact that live will try to install update 5 when you start the game.
After going customs crazy, I went on a RB sabbatical back in February. In that time a whole lot of good songs have come out (apparently, some new software was released that make reductions easy to do, which is great for a non-expert player like me), so I decided to jump back into the fold. Between last night and this morning I downloaded 110 more songs. When I left off I was fast approaching the dreaded 256 song limit bug, so I'm going to have to use one of the workarounds. |

Hey gang,
Below are the back catalog DLC tracks that will be affected in the next round of relicensing. These tracks should come down from the store on Tuesday August 26th, so you still have a few weeks left to pick them up. As always, content updates on a different schedule for every console, so you may see content affected a little earlier or a little later, but that date is the most up to date info we have at the moment. The affected tracks include: Fleetwood Mac - "World Turning" Fleetwood Mac - "Don’t Stop" Spinal Tap - "(Funky) Sex Farm" Spinal Tap - "(Listen to The) Flower People (Reggae Style)" Spinal Tap - "America" Spinal Tap - "Back From The Dead" Spinal Tap - "Big Bottom" Spinal Tap - "Cups and Cakes" Spinal Tap - "Gimme Some Money" Spinal Tap - "Heavy Duty" Spinal Tap - "Hell Hole" Spinal Tap - "Rock N Roll Creation" Spinal Tap - "Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare" Spinal Tap - "Saucy Jack" Spinal Tap - "Stonehenge" Spinal Tap - "Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight" Spinal Tap - "Warmer Than Hell" Spinal Tap Pack 01 Spinal Tap’s Tap Ten As with the previous updates, these songs are coming down from the in game store, but if you already downloaded them nothing should change for you. Check the above posts for more info, and if there are additional questions that need clarification we’ll be sure to add an FAQ to this post. |
