Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Hey gang,

It's that time again. Below you'll find the list of 7 singles we were unable to re license for the Rock Band DLC store. These tracks should remain up for purchase until December 30th, 2013, which gives you nearly 6 weeks to pick up any of these songs if you've held off on them until now. Credit where credit is due: even though we'll be losing these 7 tracks next month, the Music Ops team spent months working with bands and labels to ensure that we retained hundreds of other tracks.

As with the previous updates, these songs are coming down from the in game store, but if you already downloaded them nothing should change for you. Check the above posts for more info, and if there are additional questions that need clarification we’ll be sure to add an FAQ to this post.

• Crooked X - “Gone”
• Naked Brothers Band - “Body I Occupy”
• Naked Brothers Band - “I Don’t Want To Go To School”
• Scars on Broadway - “They Say”
• System of a Down - “B.Y.O.B.”
• System of a Down - “Toxicity”
• Tokio Hotel - “Ready, Set, Go!”

As with previous re licensing announcements, we don't have complete control over first party schedules, so while the dates above reflect when we plan to remove content from the in game store you may see changes a few days earlier or a few days later on the console and online marketplaces. In fact, because of the upcoming holiday, it's very likely that these tracks will be pulled earlier than scheduled, as 1st party generally avoids store updates during the last week of the year. We'll post updates if we get more specific confirmation on the holiday plan, but if you're interested in picking these tracks up we definitely wouldn't recommend waiting until the last minute.

One final reminder: seeing as how this is all pre RB3 content, all the tracks listed in this post are currently available for 50% off. Singles should be $1 on Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.

For some reason, I have that "I Don't Want To Go To School" song. I think my daughter wanted it or something (and I'm pretty sure it was only a dollar at release).

Me too! And now that they have customs working for RS 2014, there's really no need for me to step back to the plastic instruments outside of social gatherings.

That's exactly why I just took a look at the latest customs: Rock Band friends in town for Christmas.

Off-topic, but the RS customs thing really took off quickly. I've still been having trouble with a few of them freezing or not starting, but I'm impressed with how many have gotten out there, especially this fast.

So they're currently doing a Twelve Days of Customs thing where each day they're revealing a new song (or two) to be released on Christmas day. Uh, guys... "Flagpole Sitta"!

Why haven't I tried this customs thing yet?!

Especially since they have new Christmas songs!

Elmo & Patsy – “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”
Paul McCartney – “Wonderful Christmastime”
Savatage (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) – “Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)”
Wham! – “Last Christmas”
Austrian Death Machine – “It’s Turbo Time”
I Declare War – “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”
KoRn – “Kidnap the Sandy Claws”
Wednesday 13 – “Buried by Christmas”

flashburn 12-22-13 05:47 PM

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Shit, Austrian Death Machine? Now I want to dig up the drums and play some Rock Band.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Here are their New Year's Eve releases:

ABBA – “Dancing Queen”
ABBA – “Mamma Mia”
Black Lace – “Superman”
Donna Summer – “Hot Stuff”
Gloria Gaynor – “I Will Survive”
The Weather Girls – “It’s Raining Men”

So I finally decided that I was going to figure out this whole customs thing. I went out and bought a new thumb drive. A few minutes ago I sat down to start the process, armed with their step by step FAQ. Turns out I have the Mad Katz version of RB3. (I figured since I bought it on release day it wouldn't have an update burned into the game.) Sigh.

So now I have to hunt down a used copy of the game. (Preferably before a friend's possible game night on 1/11. They *really* want to sing "Blurred Lines.") To my knowledge, none of my friends have one to swap. This is going to be a pain. Off to Gamestop(s)...

Harmonix is going nuts registered domain names for something called "Chroma":

Yeah, they started that well over a year ago. It's looking like it won't be straight up music for once, and they have some BioShock 2 people working on it.

Chroma means color. probably a Kinect-enabled version of Simon.

If you bought it on release then all you should have to do is delete title update 5 in the Rock Band data on the Xbox. My Xbox for Rock Band has become an offline Xbox due to the fact that live will try to install update 5 when you start the game.

Chroma turned out to be a crazy looking music based shooter.

Guh...

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/har.../1100-6418917/

Today during a PAX East keynote address, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos teased that the Boston area studio has "grand plans" to bring the Rock Band and Dance Central franchises to the new generation of consoles, presumably the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

He prefaced his talk this morning by saying he would not announce a Rock Band 4 or Dance Central 4. However, he stressed that both franchises are "near and dear" to Harmonix. He went on to say that the studio plans to bring these franchises to the current console cycle "at some point" and with "guns blazing."

The most recent entry in the core Rock Band series was 2010's Rock Band 3, though the studio would ship a downloadable game, Rock Band Blitz, in 2012. Meanwhile, the last Dance Central game was 2012's Kinect-enabled Dance Central 3 for Xbox 360.

I'd much rather a re-release of the wooden fender at a decent price so I can feel good playing again.

so unlikely. no way will retailers buy into stocking their shelves with plastic instruments all over again. the dream is dead.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Yeah, I don't see it happening, either. I was in a couple of Gamestops yesterday browsing through used stuff. I swear, I've never seen that many copies of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith in the same place at the same time before. Multiple copies of all the other GH games too, plus a bunch of RB1, RB2, and Beatles. Seeing used copies of Beatles makes me especially sad for some reason. Wound up buying a copy of RB2 for $2.

I could see some kind of subscription library streaming service and ordering instruments direct from Harmonix.

I still play. I had to Frankenstein one of my strats from parts of dead guitars.

I finally get a damn pc to get the customs and I can't launch the Party Buffalo exe. :(

Well, until then at least we'll have this!

http://www.polygon.com/2014/4/11/560...-pax-east-2014

Harmonix is moving into the mobile market, and its first foray when it comes to games is a music-based runner called Record Run, studio head Alex Rigopulos announced during his talk at PAX East 2014 today.

It's not Harmonix's first-ever mobile project; the studio released VidRhythm, a free iOS app that allowed players to create brief music videos, in 2011.

Rigopulos began with an explanation of some new technology at Harmonix that allows games to import a song from a player's personal collection and turn it into gameplay. "If you really love the music in the game, you enjoy the game more," he noted.

Record Run takes your favorite songs and uses them as its soundtrack, Rigopulos explained. It's a free-to-play title with gameplay that he compared to Gaijin Games' Bit.Trip Runner series. He showed a quick clip of footage in which a character jogged down a two-lane sidewalk to the beat of a song, sliding under and jumping over obstacles as it collected vinyl records.

Rigopulos did not specify a release date or platforms for Record Run, which will be a free-to-play title, but said Harmonix plans to release it soon. In addition, said Rigopulos, Harmonix has "lots of other irons in the fire on mobile, most of them very different" from Record Run. He then showed a brief video that consisted of 13 clips of prototypes that Harmonix is working on for mobile platforms, all playing in small windows simultaneously.

"There's some crazy shit in there," he said.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

There was also a DLC licensing update last week:

Hey gang,

Not much of an announcement this time around, as we expect to re secure all licenses for this quarter! That's still not set in stone, and there's always chance that we may get urgent requests from some labels / bands that require our immediate attention, but for now we don't believe that we'll be pulling anything from the store this quarter.

If that plan changes at all, we'll be sure to announce which content is at risk, and give the community as much notice as possible so you don't miss out on a last chance to purchase. As always, tracks you already own aren't included in these re licensing efforts, so if you've already purchased specific tracks then you've got nothing to worry about.

Unless something urgent pops up, expect the next re licensing update in about 3 months time.

***4/4 EDIT***

Unfortunately it turns out that we do have two updates to make regarding this wave of re licensing after all.

Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" will be coming out of the DLC store on 4/30. We know, definitely a bummer. But on the other hand, literally everyone in the world should already own this song! It's one of the most popular tracks in RB, and is absolutely essential in an RB party setting. And it's only $1. And remember, if you've already bought "Don't Stop Believing" then you won't be affected by this change at all.

Additionally, after 5 years of availability the 20 Free DLC offer from Rock Band 2 has expired, and the redemption page is no longer live. As with other previously purchased / downloaded content, if you already have these tracks then nothing changes for you.

I can see Dance Central easily coming back, since Xbox One comes with the Kinect.
